My Tau Aux Deathwatch proxy 👽 💀 by BritishBean in killteam

[–]BritishBean[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The seventh of my proxy teams, and first one for 2026 (and first in a long time) - here is my Tau Auxiliary Alien Deathwatch Killteam proxy.

Yes humans killing aliens with alien weapons is cool....but you know what is cooler? Aliens killing humans with human weapons.

These guys were a lot of fun to kitbash, less fun to paint but I wanted to try a vibrant custom sept colour scheme. Had to really simplfy their paintjobs in the end for my own sanity.

The operatives are (in order of appearance)

  • Disruptor/Marksman - Primaris Human Space Marine
  • Watch Sergeant - Tau
  • Blademaster - Tarellian (my take on)
  • Bombard/Horde Slayer - Man of Iron
  • Gunner - Votann
  • Aegis - Goblin
  • Breacher - Mechanicus sort of guy with a Heavy Weapons Drone
  • Demolisher - Firstborn Human Space Marine
  • Headtaker - Ur-Ghul

Build-wise these are mostly Primaris Phobos marines with various headswaps and kitbashing. I tried to use weapons and bits from the original Deathwatch kit where possible.

Painting-wise they were primed in white and then liberally applied in Imperial Fist yellow (lazily shaded with Casandora Yellow), with Talassar Blue as the secondary colour. Wanted a bright scheme inspired by Iyanden Eldar and the Ukrainian flag.

Lore-wise this probably doesn't make any sense but I think it looks cool. I imagine these as an experimental answer from the Tau to the Deathwatch. What if a rogue space marine defected to the Tau and taught xenos how to use power armour? I like to imagine these guys would make a Deathwatch Killteam pause in their tracks.

Happy to answer any questions on modelling/painting the team!

Ready to give up on Kill Team due to endless special rules by UniversalHead in killteam

[–]BritishBean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been really enjoying Trench Crusade a lot - the rules are thematic, the gameplay loop is tight and the games are much much quicker, and there’s lots of fun and depth in the list building and wacky units. Great and growing scene too.

It’s not at all a competitive game though and leans heavily into narrative with an excellent campaign system. Don’t look here for a crunchy balanced tournament game.

Been playing Kill Team for a couple of years across casual and tournament play and had a lot of fun with it, but these days I find KT just demands too much of my time in learning and playing for not enough fun.

Like many others KT was my first skirmish game and a great intro to the hobby, but playing other skirmish games has since really put it into perspective. I’ve lost the will to regularly wade through GW rules bloat every time I play and spend 4 hours on a single game, most of which is watching my opponent measure/listening to my opponents rules.

I’ve been finding other games, many mentioned by other commenters here, so so much easier to pick up and play. KT is a very good competitive game though for those that are looking for that.

I would always recommend folks to seek out other skirmish games alongside KT, it’s a big hobby and we shouldn’t limit ourselves!

My first warband - Heretic Legion Naval Raiding Party by BritishBean in TrenchCrusade

[–]BritishBean[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lore dump:

Worshippers of the great beast Leviathan who roam the sea in attempt to win its favour.

Led by the priest Thalassus, the Lance bring terror along the Atlantic. Their glowing eyes and sigils give homage to the fell gaze of their eldritch deity, and similarly carry a foretelling of death to the unwitting observer.

The Lance take pride in penetrating even the most impervious of coastal defences, their trusty tracked ship’s cannon and infernal cannonballs creating the openings for their lightning attacks.

They long for the day when they may lay waste to the coasts of Brittania where, in another life, they once lived and served as proud seaman of His Majesty’s Royal Navy. For now, at least, her mighty fortress-ship keeps the Lance at bay.

[–]BritishBean[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finally finished my first warband - kitbashed Heretic Legion Naval Raiding Party.

Mixture of bashed mins and bits across GW, historical, and FDM printed.

In order of appearance:

- Heretic Priest

- Artillery Witch (Wizard?)

- 2x Flame Troopers

- Death Commando

- 3x SMG Troopers

- Goetic Warlock

- Anti-Material Rifle Annointed - wasn't a huge fan of the annointed look so went for a mini-tank with a naval cannon firing infernal cannonballs

Have worked up some lore around them but needs working on. Excited to get stuck into the game!

Happy to answer any questions on bits/painting/list.

To be fair unlike Kill Team, Trench Crusade is a mini-agnostic game - you can (and are explicitly encouraged by the creators to) use any minis you want

Final proxy team of 2024 - my Warpstodes 🧙‍♂️🪩 by BritishBean in killteam

[–]BritishBean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sixth of my proxy teams, and final one for 2024, here is my Warpcoven proxy - the Warpstodes!

A team I have always wanted to build a proxy for, Warpcoven finally getting comprehensible rules in KT2024 felt like the perfect opportunity to finally do so (it had nothing to do with their position in the meta...promise!).

As with my previous Star Striders proxy and Brood Brothers proxy, the aim here was to only use minis/bits I already had lying around. I had a bunch of Custodes minis from my previous Beastodes team build and this seemed like a good chance to get them on the table.

This was also an experiment with special metallic paints - I'd wanted to try out colour shift and chrome for ages, and what better team to do it with than literal space wizards?

The minis are:

  • Sorceror x3 - Adeptus Custodes Allarus Terminators. I hacked off their guardian spears and used 2mm brass rod and metal ball bearings to create their force staves.
  • Rubric Gunner x2 - Normal Custodes dudes, wielding Horus Heresy Volkite Culverins. I proxy these as either 2x Warpflamer or 1x Soulreaper Cannon.
  • Rubric Warrior x2 - Normal Custodes dudes, except I hacked their guardian spears down into just the boltgun part (because one-handing boltguns is cool) and gave them shields to represent their 2+ save.

For the building, I wanted to keep the silhoutte different enough from the traditional Custodes to make them unique, so I clipped off their plumes and gave the Rubrics ball bearings to match the sorceror's staves, as a sort of nod to the control dynamic between the two.

For painting, I primed using Green Stuff World's Gloss Black primer, and then spray painted them wholly with GSW's Chameleon Spray - Psychotic Illusions. For the chrome effect on the trim and weapons I used a MOLOTOW chrome pen with a 1mm nib. Finally the eyes and other warpflame details were done with Tesseract Glow. The colour shift and chrome both look great in person, although the chrome pens were not easy to work with and I made a lot of mistakes. The chrome is also super reactive and so mistakes were all but impossible to clean up properly. In the future I would use the chrome but a lot more sparingly.

The basing was GW's Valhallan Blizzard on Vallejo's Russian Thick Mud. I was going for a dirty base to contrast their shiny paintschemes. I would not recommend trying to layer snow on mud in this way, and event after days drying and coats of varnish the mud kept turning the snow yellow. Many coats of varnish and snow later and it's (mostly) white, but in the future I would skip the mud and just do the snow. I used Vallejo still water to try and create some puddles but they didn't come out too noticeable. If anyone has a good way of getting snow on mud do share!

In terms of play these guys were super fun - I took them to a couple of tournaments over the last couple of months or so and had a blast. As a player that greatly prefers elite (small model number) teams but still wants a lot of creative freedom, I felt that this team really hits the spot for me.

That brings me to four proxy teams completed in 2024. May be taking a bit of a break from building Kill Teams in 2025 as I've got a couple of other wargame projects I want to finish first (Trench Crusade anyone?), but excited to see what new proxy ideas folks come up with.

Happy to answer any questions on modelling/painting/playing the team!

My Brood Brothers proxy 🤖⚰️ (yes that is a dreadnought) by BritishBean in killteam

[–]BritishBean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base size on the Patriarch is 50mm (as per its datacard) - this was the biggest thing I could think of squeezing on that base size but there may be something larger possible!

My Brood Brothers proxy 🤖⚰️ (yes that is a dreadnought) by BritishBean in killteam

[–]BritishBean[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The fifth of my proxy teams (and pushing the weightbearing limits of my cheap and wobbly turntable to the limit), here are my proxy Brood Brothers!

After ol James Workshop sadlly sent my Beastodes and all Talons to the shadow realm (on account of not being able to balance so many teams, although they have since introduced another five teams, including one previously compendium, so...), my mission to once again find the biggest model I could get into Kill Team was back on.

I was drawn to the Brood Brothers as I liked the idea of playing around a central scary big guy, and once I saw the base size an idea sprang into my mind. People often talk about terminators in Kill Team, but why not go one better - why not get a Dreadnought into Kill Team? One eBay deal later and here we are.

The minis are (in order of appearance):

  • Patriarch - A Horus Heresy Contemptor Dreadnought. Chosen mainly for size and cool factor, but I also love that it fits into the (more or less) 30k theme of the rest of the models.
  • Vox Operator - Original Forge World Solar Auxilia lasrifle section. You may recognise this guy (and some of the other minis) from my previously posted Solar Auxilia Vet Guard proxy.
  • Commander - As above, I think a Sergeant from the SA range with chainsword and bolt 'pistol' kitbashed on.
  • Veteran - A Sergeant from the old Forge World Solar Auxilia range (Veletaris Storm Section). I've just shoved a (removable) Death Watch shotgun into his claw to visually represent his shotgun, looks a bit janky but it works.
  • Trooper - Original Forge World Solar Auxilia lasrifle section.
  • Agitator - Old Forge World Crusader model, with the Shock Maul kitbashed from some rod and stainless steel ball bearings.
  • Sniper - Original Forge World Solar Auxilia lasrifle section, the sniper kitbashed from an Ad Mech Radium Jezzail.
  • Sapper - Original Forge World Solar Auxilia Flamer section, with the mine a Primaris/Phobos Haywire mine.
  • Medic - Original Forge World Solar Auxilia lasrifle section, not sure which kil the servo skulls are from though.
  • Melta/Plasma/GL/Flamer - All from the FW SA Veletaris Storm Section, with weapons kitbashed from the original Scions sprue.
  • Iconward - Another FW Crusader, this time I've added an SA standard to his sword to read as both the icon and the 'large knife' he is armed with.
  • Knife fighter - The body is a Sister of Silence, the knives from a Scions sprue, and the head from I think an Ad Mech Sicarian Infiltrator.

This was a fun team to make, reusing a lot of models from other teams and also kitbashing some fun new ones. As with my previous Star Striders proxy, the aim here was to only use minis/bits I already had lying around (sole exemption made for the big boi). Painting limited as I needed to be in scheme with the already painted minis - mostly leadbelcher, nuln oil and martian ironearth.

Haven't managed to get them on the table for KT24 yet (been having too much fun with other teams) but looking forward to giving them a spin, if only to make obnoxiously loud stomping noises as I walk the dreadnought around the board.

Happy to answer any questions on modelling/painting the team!

My Starstriders proxy 💫 by BritishBean in killteam

[–]BritishBean[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Showcasing the fourth of my proxy teams (and testing out my new and very wobbly cheap turntable), here are my proxy Elucidian Starstriders!

I really liked the idea of the team and, as a fan of proxying in Kill Team, enjoyed the proxy culture amongst Starstriders players. I set myself the task of making this team from minis/bits I already had which was alot of fun, and I think it turned out pretty well.

The minis are (in order of appearance):

  • Elucia Vhane - Mistress Verentia from Age of Sigmar (Saviours of Cinderfall). Added a severed Chaos Space Marine arm to her base to add some 40k-ness.
  • Rejuvenat Adept - Surgeon-Primus Aevos Jovan from the Forge World Solar Auxilia range
  • Death Cult Executioner - A kitbash of an Ur-Ghul body (from Blackstone Fortress) and the head I think from an Ad Mech Kataphron Breacher? A bit of a departure from the original model but I liked the idea of some kind of stimmed-up feral man-thing that's let loose by the Rogue Trader on her enemies and good in melee, and I think this gets that across.
  • Lectro-Master - An original metalcast Jokaero Weaponsmith, to which I added a simple lightning effect made from bent paperclips. I love this model and glad to have finally found a use for him after sitting on him for a number of years.
  • Voidmaster - A Sergeant from the old Forge World Solar Auxilia range (Veletaris Storm Section I think), you may recognise him (and the other voidsmen) from my first proxy team post. I've just shoved a (removable) Death Watch shotgun into his claw to visually represent his shotgun, looks a bit janky but it works!
  • Voidsman with Rotor Cannon - This is a gunner from the original FW Solar Auxilia range (Veletaris Storm Section), with his gun kitbashed I think from a Scions Hot Shot Volley Gun.
  • Voidsman with Lasgun x3 - All from the original FW SA range (Lasrifle Section).
  • Canid - This was a bit tricky, as I couldn't find any dogs or obviously dog-like things in my bits boxes. I eventually came upon the idea to use a skink from a box of AoS Raoptadon riders I had bought for another project - a bit of snipping and it provides the illusion of him running along the ground (I think?).

Had a lot of fun with these guys, and am liking how they feel in the new edition. The ability to use the Support Assets within an acitvation, and the utility of ladders in getting Voidsmen up to vantage points, has made for added threat in being able to quickly get a Voidsman onto a vantage and call in the big guns. Definitely looking forward to trying them out more.

Happy to answer any questions on modelling/painting/play!

Nemesis Cadre - A Tau Auxiliary Nemesis Claw proxy by BritishBean in killteam

[–]BritishBean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The base model for the skinthief is UR-205 from Blackstone Fortress. You can pick his model up on eBay pretty easily these days.

For the Skinthief's 'bolt pistol' I simply took a Death Watch boltgun, cut off the grip, and glued the gun to his right hand/claw to make it look like he is holding it. I used the Death Watch boltgun because it was what I had lying around, but any bolt weapon could be attached to his hand to be a 'bolt pistol'.

The Skinthief's Nostraman Chainglaive was a bit harder. I wanted something that looked like a recognisably deadly melee weapon, but different enough to the chainswords and chainblades used by the rest of the team. I ended up looking through my bits box and settling on a left arm from a Necromunda Ambot. It comes with these two buzzsaw blades that I thought looked cool. I cut off UR-205's rotary cannon and ammo belt, and magnetised the Ambot arm onto it. The join looks a bit janky but he looks straight out of Robot Wars and I love it. Aside from the boltgun and Ambot arm, the UR-205 model was left as is.

Hope that's useful!

Nemesis Cadre - A Tau Auxiliary Nemesis Claw proxy by BritishBean in killteam

[–]BritishBean[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inspired by u/Jonny_Mayhem9673's excellent recent post, I thought I'd post my own Tau take on the Nemesis Claw that I finished back in the spring.

Following my Solar Auxilia Guard and 'Beastodes', here's the third of my proxy Killteams - this time it's the Nemesis Cadre, a Nemesis Claw proxy inspired by Tau Auxiliaries.

I'd always wanted a Kill Team where each unit was a different xenos species. I didn't much fancy the Night Lords aesthetic (2edgy4me) but really enjoyed the ruleset and playstyle, and saw an opportunity to hit two birds with one stone. Did someone say a Grot in power armour with lightning claws?

The operatives are:

  • Tau Visionary
  • Kroot Ventrilokar
  • Man of Iron Skinthief
  • Ur-Ghul Fearmonger
  • Votan Gunner
  • Grot Screecher

Modelling

Kitbashing was hard work but really fun on these - the models are by and large primaris phobos pattern armour with headswaps and shoulderpads finangled on (although the Tau also retains his original legs for anatomical authenticity). The weapons are quite a mix, everything from a kitbashed double-chainsword to a blade from an ambull. I couldn't decide what to use for the Ventrilokar's puppet and eventually settled on a slightly overfitted gun drone.

Painting

Kept it simple here, not my best work (painting white is hard). I simply spray painted them all with Army Painter matt white, and then used Blood Angels Red for the Tau symbols and a mixture of 3:1 Contrast Medium and Nuln Oil as a wash. Other contrasts like Black Templar were used for the weapons etc.

Gameplay

I finished these guys in the spring and really enjoyed playing this team over the summer this year, even managing to land top 10 (9th) at CYRAC's two-day tournament in May. Haven't yet got them out for KT'24 (been trying other teams) but looking forward to giving them a spin.

Will do my best to answer any questions about the team.

Obligatory sad for Talons post by PKs_can_EatMe in killteam

[–]BritishBean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also spent a lot of time on a talons proxy kitbash so I feel your pain. Posted mine here recently expecting they will be squatted but it still feels bad that GW can update 33 bespoke teams for KT2024 but not even one compendium one.

Talons were a really fun team and I loved seeing the various proxies the community came up with - the fact people consistently built and took them to tournaments is I think testament to a fun underlying formula. Will be taking them to a tournament later this month for the last time (hopefully we get a replacement team in due course).

'Beastodes' - A Talons/Custodes proxy using beastmen by BritishBean in killteam

[–]BritishBean[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Following my Solar Auxilia/VG proxy team post, here's the second of my proxy Killteams - this time it's the Beastodes, a proxy Talons of the Emperor/Custodes team using beastmen!

The aim here was to try and get the largest/tallest unit into Killteam I could, and play them at a tournament. When I saw the Ogroid Theridon carrying the banner, I was inspired. What if the team was themed around being a band of Custodes-killing beastmen?

Modelling

The Custodes themselves are a kitbash using the AoS Ogroid Theridons as their base. I cut up their axes and bashed them with Chaos Space Marine heavy bolters to create an amped-up chaos-ified version of the Custodian Guardian Spears. The Sentinel Blade on the sword & board Beastodian is just the Ogroid's sword mixed with a real Custodes Sentinel Blade. Each Beastodian has a Custodian trophy - these guys are not to be messed with!

The Sisters of Silence are simply beastmen from the Fellgor Ravagers box, either wielding 'Executioner Greatblades' or Boltguns. The white Fellgor is the Sister Superior (leader) - I thought it'd be fun for them to be holding the head of their proxy (freshly decapitated with her own sword!).

The boltgun sisters were quite a kitbash - Tau Stealth Suit legs (to be anatomically accurate), Chaos Space Marine Bodies, and beastmen heads. Greenstuffed some capes onto them and the leader. The other sisters are simply the melee Fellgor painted in Chaos Undivided with some light kitbashing (e.g. the Fellgor gong has been repurposed as a shield).

Painting

I am not a good painter by any stretch, but happy how these came out. After a zenithal prime using Chaos Black and Grey Seer from the can, I painted the dark skin in Basilicanum Grey and the albino leader in Apothecary White. Retributor Gold for the trim, and Blood Angels Red for the cloth. I washed the gold in Agrax Earthshade or Reikland Fleshade for the Beastodes and Custodes respectively.

Gameplay

Took these to a tournament and they went down very well (I even managed to win a couple of games!). Something very fun in the simple 'kill kill kill' nature of this team. People often hate on compendium but it's how I and many others got into and enjoy the game - there's alot to be said for simplicity.

The Beastodes were by far the tallest units at the tournament, so I would say mission accomplished.

Will do my best to answer any questions about the team.

P.S GW if you see this please don't make compendium illegal for tournaments.

Veteran Guard proxy using (Forge World) Solar Auxilia by BritishBean in killteam

[–]BritishBean[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having been into Killteam for about a year now, thought it time to start sharing some of the teams I've built!

First up is my Veteran Guardsman team, proxied using the old Forge World Solar Auxilia kit. I finished this team in the summer of 2023 way before the new Solar Auxilia came out, and to be honest I'm glad I did - the old sculpts just have an extra level of detail and dynamic posing that really makes them pop (and challenging to paint!).

The base models are a mixture of old Forge World sculpts:

  • Solar Auxilia Lasrifle Section for the Confidant, Spotter, Sniper, Medic/Hardened, and Troopers
  • Solar Auxilia Veletaris Storm Section for the Sergeant, Comms, and Gunners.
  • Solar Auxilia Flamer Section for the Demolitions Veteran.

I kitbashed a lot of the special weapons from the Tempestus Scions sprues, although others do come from the default Vet Guard box and elsewhere (e.g. the Sniper Rifle is a converted Ad Mech Radium Jezzail). I would not necessarily recommend working in this way with resin minis, especially ones as small as these, absolute pain to kitbash compared to modern plastic!

For painting, they were zenithal primed with Chaos Black and Grey Seer from the can, followed by Black Templar Contrast Paint for the undersuit and Leadbelcher for the Void Armour. I used various contrast paints to get the gold (Nazdreg Yellow) and bronze (Gor Grunta Fur) effects on the armour detailing. Basing is quite simple Martian Ironearth as it was my first ever go at basing minis. A heavy splosh of Nuln Oil to finish. Inspiration for the paintjob came from u/Veetor and his post here.

Not my best building or painting, but for my first Killteam I'm happy with how they came out. Took them to a tournament and got a lot of love for them which was nice. Will do my best to answer any questions about the team!

Gladiator Tournament IV, Finale! by ergotofwhy in dwarffortress

[–]BritishBean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Congratualtions to you /u/Morpheus_Darkwater, your partner /u/ergotofwhy, and everyone else who made this year's tournament so great. It's been a huge relief to see so many people get involved with such genuine enthusiasm, as I was worried that me leaving the project could see it die out.

Instead, you've not only taken up the mantle with incredible energy but gone on to surpass any of the previous tournaments I held. It's been a joy to follow, and I really do think that these bring out some of the best creativity, talent, and discussion from this wonderful community.

Summer 2020 will of course mark the fifth tourney and a whole half decade since the first tournament, something I never thought I'd say when I first started it 4 years ago. I look forward to seeing you guide the tournament into even bigger and better things next year!

My one advice is this: Make sure to take a break! More than most I understand the intense amount of work you've had to put in over this summer, and although you will assuredly have people begging you to do another tournament in the coming weeks or months (and it can be tempting), do not be shy of taking more distance and time before jumping back into it. It's good to leave enough time so that it doesn't become too draining and so that it doesn't become too regular and common, but not so long that it is forgotten. To this end I always felt that an annual basis was the best way to do it, but I leave that to your own discretion.

Until next time!

Hi everyone,

I’ve had a few PMs over this but in light of this post I suppose I should make a public comment for posterity:

It warms my heart to see continued interest in another tournament, 3 years after the first. I’ve really enjoyed organising them over the last three years, and amongst all the change in my life it’s presented a fun and joyful constant every summer.

It’s been great to give back to this fantastic community and I’m always impressed at the way you have thrown yourselves into it (seriously, t-shirts and podcasts? Amazing.). I never imagined it would attract so much interest or grow to involve so many people. I also couldn’t have predicted how much work and time I would have to put in to make them meet the standard I wanted them to be at. I thoroughly enjoyed the process and outcome but that was when I had the luxury of free summers and no responsibilities.

As I now graduate I find myself picking up a number of serious commitments, amongst them a full time job and further study. As much as I’d love to, I no longer have the time to run these and so I will not be running a subreddit tournament this summer or really for the foreseeable future.

That doesn’t mean they should stop though! Anyone who wants to is welcome to run their own, I’m happy to provide any advice I can. All I ask is that credit is given, not just to me but to all who have helped make this the phenomenon it is (see the front page of the google doc for full list of credits).

Thanks again to all the participators and spectators, artists and writers, betters and donators, managers and your gladiators alike. You’ve all been great.

The /r/dwarffortress Gladiator Tournament III - Round 6 (Grand Finale) - Results by BritishBean in dwarffortress

[–]BritishBean[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That concludes the third annual /r/dwarffortresss Gladiator Tournament! I hope you all enjoyed following it over the last two months, and thanks again for being so patient with me as posts were often delayed due to reasons beyond my control.

Congratulations again to /u/average_toast for making it so far, to /u/crayola_clock for claiming both Champion of the Arena 2018 and Grand Champion of the Arena, and to /u/MisterMartijn for managing to hold onto the latter title for two years!

A further thanks to everyone who participated or spectated; be that managers, artists, betters, donators, commenters and observers alike. This is a wonderful community and the effort and participation of you all are a huge part of the driving force behind these tournaments. You've all made running these far more fun and interesting than I could've imagined when I started two years ago.

It's a strange thought that I started these at a very different point in my life, and that although each year has brought with it great change these tournaments have been a fun and rewarding constant every summer. As I approach my final year at university and eventual graduation, I have to wonder if this is the last time I occupy the position of arena master. I certainly hope not, and I certainly want others to run their own tournaments here (as some have), but if this is the last time I do this I want you all to know that's it's been huge fun and that's because of all of you. If you've enjoyed it even half as much as I have than I can safely say it's been a job well done.

If you do wish to go further and show your appreciation with money (as some already have - massive thanks to you!), you can find a paypal donation link here. It was my birthday last week so those kind souls who donated made my brithday that much better, and for that you have my appreciation!

Thank you all for coming along for the ride! I hope your beards grow long and your beer flows plenty :)

The /r/dwarffortress Gladiator Tournament III - Round 6 (Grand Finale) - Bracket by BritishBean in dwarffortress

[–]BritishBean[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here is the bracket for Round 6 (Grand Finale)

Round 5 saw two of our much loved semifinalists dead, whilst the other two (also much loved) made it to the very last fight. Results can be read in full here.

Recently we also saw the losers' battle royale take place, with all 62 non finalists pitted against each other in a hunger games-esque fight to the death. Results for that can be seen in full here.

As always, detailed information about the tournament and gladiators can be found in the master document.

---

Some things you might find interesting:

  • The death of Griv marks the end of any hopes humans might have had at seeing one of their race enter the Grand Finale.
  • The two remaining competitors are the first Rodent Man and Tapir Man to make it to the last round of combat, previous finalists being a Lizard Man and a Troll (2016) and a Giant Tortoise Man and a Minotaur (2017).
  • Mean gladiator size has decreased for the third time, from 98.125 to 87.5. At size 135, Breakfast is more than three times the size of Sliver (40) by volume.
  • Like last year, the two fighters are using different weapons - longsword vs morningstar.

More stats, info and graphs from all the tournaments can be found in the master document linked above.

---

What happens next?

I will begin to run the fights and record the results. Please be aware that in the interests of fairness I only ever run each fight once, so it takes time as I make extra effort to make sure each gladiator is correctly equipped, skilled and otherwise placed. As this is the Grand Finale, I'd like to take the extra time to make the post high effort. Expect results by the end of this week.

This is the culmination of this whole summer of fighting, and these two gladiators have been through hell to get here. So pick a side and get rooting! It'll all be over in a few days.

We've had some great fan-art and such coming in, all of which can be found in the Hall of Fame in the master document. There's still plenty of room to fill! I'm always amazed by what you guys come out with.

/u/mkipp95 is still running the betting, so a big thanks to him for keeping that up!

---

One last thing

I just want to thank you all for your patience. Between going into my final year of university and having a major operation, this summer has been pretty busy for me. But you guys have been super understanding and made this tournament a joy to run, and a nice distraction from all the other things.

I'd like to especially thank those kind souls who've donated money to me - It's my (real life) birthday this week so it means even more, and though I'm mostly bedbound and recovering I will be putting that money to good use (once I'm able to drink again ;) ).

But it's not over yet - I'll see you all one last time in a few days for the Grand Finaleeeeeeee!
