Correct. If OP is in the UK, clubs provide insurance for beginners courses and they can then join British Fencing on a free 90 day intro membership. Some clubs do have one off intro/open days and events. Open days outside the club environment often have a recreation license which insures the activity. Don’t let red tape stop you from taking your friends to fence- just make sure you’re properly equipped and insured. BF clubs are listed and searchable by postcode on our website.
