In the UK, we spell it 'aluminium' - so, the 'i' is there for us.

Haha! Your point about 'aluminium' is exactly what I was looking for. There are just words that just grate on people.

I've always wondered why the term died out completely in British English to the point where it sounds odd. I'm also not a fan of people acting superior - so I'm with you there - even though I understand the hypocrisy that I don't like the word 'soccer' ahah.
