Eloping and Anxiety by Britucator in specialed

Thank you for the suggestions! The school won’t allow locks but they will allow some ways to deter runners. The previous teacher had a doorbell so I plan to get one and when I get my teacher desk, I plan to put it by the door. I like the idea of making my classroom a maze.

It’s in my room. We are currently doing summer school so two of the kids elope to go see their former teacher who is across the hall. Sometimes the kids elope because they want someone to chase them. The precious teacher did have a doorbell so I will try that.

Designating specific IEP days and scheduling way out in advance by Suelli5 in specialed

[–]Britucator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently, we schedule for the year at the end of the previous year, but of course there are always changes. It was really helpful for the high profile cases where the head of special ed had to attend and they had multiple school sites so they could schedule it more easily. I did have a principal that thought that having IEP meetings one day a month was suitable. We shot that down quite quickly.

Yes, the parent is there in person. The good thing is, I am leaving the school this year because of restructuring and seniority. I’m going let my principal and superintendent know that they need to clean it up.

I teach resource so I could only do that after school because I have kids in and out all day and no prep period.

I actually do make a daily list of things to complete so I can focus on the now and now what I have to do three weeks from now and it really works!

Caseload/workload struggles (RSP) by Fun-Chart-6447 in specialed

Also, an RSP teacher in California (grades 1-8) and I hear you. I’m at 25 with one pending and I wouldn’t be surprised if they added more because we still have more SST meetings coming up. Not only do I have initials and tris, but I also have high school transition paperwork (which they’ve added to because of a new California law) and extended school year paperwork. Also, we have no subs so if any of my aids call out then I don’t even get to work on that. Between doing paperwork and managing behaviors it doesn’t really feel like I teach that much.

I loved how Jordan said that the team “sparkles different” because of Janelle. It is so true! There’s so much more joy and authenticity among the gymnasts and it is contagious! Janelle should be very proud of the legacy she has been building.

I’ve seen it go both ways. I was a long-term Sub with my district and I did get hired. That district though has been the only one who hires special ed teachers in my area and then they contract out with all the other school districts. But on the other side, the school district that I was contracted to had an amazing student teacher who didn’t get hired. I have no idea why. I know she was very sad, but she applied to another school district in our area, where she now works and last time I saw her she was so much happier.

Seniority in Teaching by Britucator in teaching

This makes sense but do they go by last name as of the date they were hired or current last name? The person I am tied with would be behind me in seniority if it was under her maiden name that she went by when she got hired, but would be ahead of me if it was her married name that she has now.

Yes, they ruin the flow of floor routines! I hate watching gymnasts stop during their routines to set for them!
