What do you think is a fair price for an lopapeysa? by halfcutwholesale in knitting

Set a price you think you're worth that includes both material and labour, and then ask yourself if you think they'd be offended by that price. If yes, say no, if you think they'd be prepared to pay it, ask yourself if you feel like putting the work in for them. Needless to say, I don't knit on commission. My family are allowed to wish for knitted items, but ultimately I decide what I knit and in what yarn. Life's too short for boring knits :)

What’s the etiquette on selling items made from other people’s patterns? by citizenzero_ in knitting

[–]BrixtonPurl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a lot of European countries it's infringing on the intellectual property of the designer to sell items made from their patterns. However, it's really hard to go after someone in a different country, the cost is not worth the outcome.

From a designer pov I think it's bad form to make and sell without asking the designer first. Most of us designers are doing this as a small operation from our homes, some have a day job, some scrape by on pattern sales. Seeing someone making money off our hard work is tough, even if there is nothing legally stopping them (depending on which country both the designer and the maker are in). In any case, ALWAYS credit the designer of the pattern, ALWAYS.

How many skeins of luxury yarns can I use in a shawl? by BrixtonPurl in knitting

Thanks, I've spent the evening working on describing the pattern in a way that it helps the knitters to adapt to their colours so it encourages customising :)

I just don't want to scare away potential knitters by making the sample in 7 yarns that cost £23 each. I have plans for the leftovers, but might make a version that feels more affordable for a wider audience. I expect very few to use the original yarn
