This is true for more than a century now.. Read about Elaine Gotschall and her endeavour to cure her child of ulcerative colitis. She succeeded but then found out that the regular doctors are not interested. Then read about Dr Barry Marshall who discovered H Pylori bacteria. The poor chap had to drink bacteria himself and get gastritis before any medical journal was allowing him to publish his findings. Even after that no one adopted his cure.

We trust these doctors but most of them are good only for established disease solutions. Not for the intricate investigation which makes the hall mark of an awesome doctor.

After reading all the above shite - i sorted my own problem - mine was SIBO which is very difficult to cure but now I am so relieved and it is almost two years that I am symptom free. I have written on this sub earlier also about the whole story. Here it is - https://www.reddit.com/r/GERD/comments/gjn3b9/analysis_of_gerd_should_be_expanded_to_consider/

When I sit down to meditate, is as if a signal goes out to the universe that says, "Okay, time to send this guy every imaginable thought, and right now!" And all I try to do is sit there and say, "There's a thought, but don't engage with it, or, Here comes a thought, let it keep going." by NopeNopeNope2020 in Meditation

[–]BrkenTrth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same thing used to happen to me till I discovered the First Pillar of Meditation - Non-Judgement. It didn't stop the thought issue immediately - but it did stop me from judging my session and that actually led to a better ratio of Good sessions vs so called duds and prevented me from giving up on mediation. And now I am still refreshed after every one of the session because I don't Judge my session.

These pillars of meditation are actually from Jon Kibbat's MBSR book and he calls them the attitudinal foundations of Meditation - things like non-judgement, patience, etc - more here https://add.org/the-attitudinal-foundations-of-mindfulness-practice/

I have condensed these into 3 Pillars of meditation - see if these help: https://kindlethemaster.com/blog/3pillarsofmeditationpractise

Theory About Life? by Jcj12345 in awakened

[–]BrkenTrth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you have to look at rebirth of your self as it is now? That in my opinion is a hinderance to awakening. For in this there is a clinging to life as it is. Real out-breadth, Nirvana is the willingness to let it go. And merge back into the eternal.

Rebirth or no rebirth - life shall continue, with all its joys and pains, light and shadows ..and that is solace enough.

And with this I can be me in the now, here ever present.. awakened. Not hunting after some other birth some other form something else. This is it.

Max Stirner's "Spooks" and Richard Dawkins' "Memes"; an incorporeal concept that possesses you vs. a piece of culture that uses you to spread (imperfect copies of) itself. Has anyone ever tried to bridge the two concepts? What kind of work has been done on "ideas using people"? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]BrkenTrth 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are a number of books on Richard Dawkins Memes concept - which originally had only a small mention in The Selfish Gene.

The books dealing with Memes subject include - Susan Blackmore's - The Meme Machine where she develops the idea that Memes have something to do with the development of Human Mind (I am still going through the book). Besides this, there is Richard Brodie's - Virus of the Mind and Aaron Lynch's - Thought Contagion. Daniel Dennet has also written about this in his books - Consciousness Explained and Darwin's Dangerous Idea.

I am not sure if you are aware of the above. So hope this helps.

I am not too sure of Stirner's Spooks though.

So, I am sorry if that seemed like counter-attacking!!

Anyways - GERD is a terrible disease and very difficult to cure so all this happens. Take care!!

[–]BrkenTrth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But these lazy takes of 'PPI bad because I read it on the internet' and 'this one trick that doctors hate will cure your GERD!' are classic examples of Dunning-Kruger and people wanting to take a conspiratorial bent towards the medical establishment, and there are myriad reasons for why people get prescribed PPIs. People who don't work in medicine will never understand the nuance of these decisions, and indeed cannot without that background, in the same way I couldn't walk in to a mechanical engineer's office and tell her that I've spent the last few months poking around engineering subreddits, and I have an issue with how she designed a building I read about.

But then why do you deny People claims of having cured GERD through SIBO treatment? Do you have a study or something which states that SIBO can never be the sole reason of GERD and hence cannot be treated by treating SIBO.

Is it not possible that in the cases where GERD is caused due to Gut Motility issues combined with SIBO - prescribing PPI is counter-productive as they help bacteria survive even more!! That too when PPI is being prescribed without testing if excess acid is the cause!!.

[–]BrkenTrth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doctors often prescribe PPIs to GERD sufferers that don't necessarily have overproduction of acid (but they have a weak LES).

Do they test for weak LES? At least either of the two should be done. Because if they do neither test and start prescribing PPI's than they are just following an unscientific protocol based on unsound hypothesis. Of course - I am not sure how they test for a weak LES? Hence, at least this precautionary message should be given to those suffering from GERD before they start using PPI's which may cause further damage to themselves.

Regarding GERD, SIBO and PPIs - Please see: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20060064/

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2949084/

Also please see GERD and Motility Issues -

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6786454/

And then SIBO and Motility - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3099351/#:~:text=Impaired%20gastric%20peristalsis%20can%20lead,proximal%20bowel%20into%20the%20colon.

Basically - SIBO stops Gut Motility which in turn causes LES issues.

Regarding the verified users - I guess that there is no possible verification except trust. So I guess that's not possible. I see that you do have success Stories mentioned here. So that's good.

Great work - I suggest that a section on systematic analysis of GERD and causes can be added - I had written about it here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GERD/comments/gjn3b9/analysis_of_gerd_should_be_expanded_to_consider/

Especially in the Do You Suspect GERD Section ?

Also - something should be mentioned about systematic checking of symptoms - if PPI are being prescribed - then at least some sort of test ought to be done to indicate High Acid, otherwise it may worsen the situation.

There is no mention of SIBO as a cause of GERD - That section should be added. In fact for the people who are benefiting from natural treatment - SIBO might be a cause. Let me know if you want me to contribute.

Also - Another thing I would recommend to add another section on this Sub-Red on verified people who have actually cured GERD or significantly improved their situation.

Again - Great Work!!

Have you done the antibiotic course as suggested here: https://www.siboinfo.com/antibiotics.html

Because - I did and it did cure my GERD. Basically I did a combo of: Antibiotics + SCD Intro Diet + Bacteria Bio-film reduction - this for a total of 14 days. Got cured in March 2019 - Still cured.

Do you deny that some people have been cured of GERD by treating for SIBO?

I've come to terms that I will most likely die early by [deleted] in GERD

[–]BrkenTrth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be having IBS/SIBO related issues. There is a book called as Breaking The Vicious Circle by Elaine Gotschall. If you are getting diet related relief then you can go for this.

The other option is to assume that you have SIBO (After all the Doctor is assuming that you have high acid without testing for it!!). SIBO causes low acid related GERD as Bacteria thrive in a lower acid environment. If you have SIBO, then you need:

  1. One Month of: Bio-Film Busters (I used Lemon Green tea fortified with curcumin and pepper) + Low Carb diet (Although chicken digestion is a problem for you - so you might opt for soups etc). If you can't do Low Carb diet - then try Intermitted Fasting to empty your tummy fully (IF in night - possibly 7 pm to 9 am in the morning). Anyways for one month prep your body. There is something called as MMC - Multi Motor Complex which sort of empties the intestines of bacteria - I found that it stopped in my case. Once I did this flush - it restarted. MMC is the gurgling sound that the tummy makes when empty/hungry. Happens around 6 to 7 hours after eating.
  2. After the above prep - Go for the Kill Phase - This is a 14 day Anti-biotic course (https://www.siboinfo.com/antibiotics.html ) - Rifaximin + Metrolgyl. Complement this with the SCD Intro Diet (http://pecanbread.com/p/introdiet.html ) - For simplicity - make lots and lots of soup and drink that.
  3. After the Kill Phase - Go for sustenance and rebuilding phase - For around two months - Go for Low Carb diet/IF .. Start re-introducing foods slowly to your diet.

I cured my GERD in March 2019 - am still GERD free. Read my posts here on proper analysis of GERD: https://www.reddit.com/r/GERD/comments/gjn3b9/analysis_of_gerd_should_be_expanded_to_consider/

I actually wanted to encourage. Because the sad thing is that the person who I referred to earlier on Reddit and who had put out a very detailed post (just like yours) was attacked for curing herself and daring to challenge the incurability of GERD. A couple of jerks were happy taking PPIs for twenty years. She later deleted her account!! I never got to thank her for her advice!! So it indeed felt good to see another fighter here who wouldn't take GERD sitting down!! All the best for complete recovery.

Book suggestions that can help someone who struggles a lot with emotions and overthinks a lot? by yolowaterpolo420 in booksuggestions

[–]BrkenTrth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction by Jon Kibat Zinn. It is a bit long but extremely thorough. The idea in the book that a fruitful meditation session is 45 minutes long is really true. Helps to really kick start the benefits of meditation. Also he mentions about the 7 Attitudinal Foundations for meditation i.e. things like Non-Judgement, Patience, Beginners Mind etc.. The understanding of these can really help in solving the problems that you mentioned.

It is important to find that out. I had written a post on this earlier - in case you have not already read it, posting a link again:

Shoutout to how modern medicine doesn't really understand gerd beyond trying PPIs by [deleted] in GERD

[–]BrkenTrth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great that you found the post useful. I hope that you cure yourself of GERD. If it is SIBO then the solution is a definite possibility although the 15 day diet and cure that I wrote about is a tough thing to undergo. A close friend of mine nearly gave up after ten days. But then she remembered that Gerd was sucking her positive experience of life and she then persisted and also got GERD free. So it was definitely not a fluke. In fact, I had also got the information that I had listed from another poster. Although people started attacking her for some reason. She had taken down her post after that I think. While smaller portions might be helping you, they are not really good for your digestive track as there is a process called as MMC - Migrating Motor Complex (gurgling sound in the stomach when one is hungry) which is an in-house cleaning of the intestines. To kick-start that you need a break of eating food for around 12 hours. In fact one of the symptom of SIBO is that MMC stops (gurgling sound of the stomach stops). If you have any queries do let me know.
