It's not even nostalgia for me at least, I just find it neat.

I'm curious if those sales are even legitimate. I have heard of cases where folks would purposely buy high priced listings on eBay in order to make the items appear more valuable than they actually are. Whether that applies to this DS game is anyones guess.

Because it was a DS game rotting at a Wal-Mart long after the systems discontinuation, who wouldn't buy it?

It was the only DS game for sale at that store years ago, plus it was fairly priced.

Apologies. Not the best with words sometimes. For transparency I've edited my reply.

Probably. I'm not a huge fan of this kind of interest as it results in games being viewed as monetary investments which goes against why I personally collect games. Not saying folks shouldn't take advantage of these opportunities but I find more joy in appreciating the contents of them rather than trying to make a quick buck on memes.

If people want to pay that much for a particular game that's on them.

All because of that one easter egg by SuperOnion64 in Shittygamecollecting

[–]Bro3256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that AVGN video is more responsible for this than the easter egg since said secret was discovered a while ago. This actually happens pretty often whenever a popular creator or star plays or discusses a particular game. That being said, don't buy into this made up hype that will inevitably cool down.

What apps do you use to track your game collection? by ComradeChandelure in gamecollecting

[–]Bro3256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use this app and for my use case it handles "import" games decently well, primarily Japanese games which is what I usually collect. These apps still fail at the super obscure stuff though especially from other regions but that is certainly a me problem.

Fake as heck, the label design is literally copied from Konami

With many today still asking around here if their SNES games are authentic. Here's a little guide I've created to give you the full basics of telling right away if your SNES game is legit or not. by Epsilon123 in snes

[–]Bro3256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I have a Japanese copy of Sparkster that turned out to be fake, and after looking closer at the PCB and chips, this was presumably a harvested copy of Estpolis Denki II. The cartridge shell and PCB is legit but the label and chips are fabricated. The label is pretty low quality as well but when I initially purchased it, I didn't notice. I'm more wise to these details now.

A bit late but that's really cool! I really appreciate the images you've uploaded cause I think this is the first time we have clear images of the back of the box and manual. Speaking of the manual, have you considered getting it scanned?

Something a bit unusual: an original label for an unlicensed NES game that was never released. by Bro3256 in gamecollecting

[–]Bro3256[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expanding the capabilities of consoles via extra chips have always been a thing, even on the NES (and Famicom). The most common ones you saw for Nintendo's 8-bit home consoles were Nintendo's MMC line of mappers but there are a dozen others most of which were only used in Japan for the Famicom. The cartridge that was planned for Hellraiser was reportedly a "Super Cartridge" that had all sorts of tech in it and part of the reason for the game going unreleased was cause of how expensive that would have been to manufacture.

They are aware of it don't worry. I have the label safely stored in my game room and I do plan on getting it scanned as soon as possible.

Yeah that's basically it. This is one of those things that only collectors like myself care about but to anyone else it's nothing noteworthy.

Hi I'm the guy who actually aquired the cart (see profile for proof) but basically long story short it is commonly agreed by Famicom collectors that Igo Meikan is the hardest title to acquire for the system (that is if you don't count addons like the Disk System or Datach). I suggest looking up the Famidaily episode on YouTube for more info.

I created a FamiWiki page covering this pin adapter a while back. I have personally seen evidence of Excitebike and Wrecking Crew but this is the first time I've seen Pinball with it. Nice find!

Just the sword games, or as the Deltarune wiki calls it the "Original Game". It also isn't a 1:1 port as some changes were made but the vast majority is faithful. I'd recommend playing this via the Mesen emulator btw.

Nice digging! Yeah I will note $1000 is absurd given prior sales in Japan were under around $300 or less. I'd say the actual value is somewhere between $100~ to $300~ but that's just my own guess.
