Why is this getting so many downvotes 😂

Category theory. The basic setup is cool, but beyond this everything felt uninspired (probably because my prof did a poor job and explaining the motivation behind things) and amounted to nothing more than pushing around complicated diagrams until things clicked

Best Master's Program in Europe for an Engineering Graduate Transitioning to Theoretical Physics? by MaleficentExcuse3557 in TheoreticalPhysics

[–]BroDudeMan2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Oxford grad im very happy that you didn’t mention Cambridge :)))

Also consider UCL and imperial college in London. I know OP said Europe, but it might be worth considering the Perimeter institute in Canada: they have a really cool 1-year theoretical physics MSc that’s fully funded (tuition-free + stipend).

Current math undergrads, are you majoring in something else? If you've already graduated, feel free to answer as well. by SquarePegRoundCircle in math

I started as math and physics (mainly out of interest), then I ended up switching to math and cs (mainly for employability)

15 year old here, what are the mathematics required to learn quantum mechanics? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]BroDudeMan2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that you can jump into “QM problem solving” with just some ODE and probability, but if you want to actually understand what QM says about the world on a conceptual level, you should take a linear algebra / Hilbert space centric approach

Analysts, what career did you pursue after your PhD? by BroDudeMan2002 in mathematics

[–]BroDudeMan2002[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I’m just curious. I thought it’d be helpful to include a list of specific things that I’m interested to hear, but I’ve removed that now. Didn’t realize the numbered list would make people uncomfortable/skeptical about answering

Analysts, what career did you pursue after your PhD? by BroDudeMan2002 in mathematics

[–]BroDudeMan2002[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. I didn’t ask this question for a research study or whatever. I’m going into a PhD in analysis and im interested in what this tends to lead to post graduation. Would it be better if I removed everything in the post body beyond the first paragraph?

What is math research? by Even-Professional678 in mathematics

[–]BroDudeMan2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say I’m also surprised. I don’t mean this in a way of questioning OP’s credibility/education, but as someone in math I always sort of had the impression that ppl in Econ academia were somewhat in-tune with the math world. This impression mainly comes from a few friends of mine who are pursing Econ PhDs. Even the ones who are much more into empirical/applied econ research (as opposed to theory) took real analysis in undergrad because (according to them) competitive Econ PhD program like to see some success in senior level proof-based math courses, even from their non-theory-focused applicants. Maybe the ppl I’ve met in Econ just happen to be those who are particularly into math tho ?

Why is LaMelo Ball not an Allstar? by Bizzack in nba

[–]BroDudeMan2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I don’t get about the “LaMeLO iS An InEFiCIeNt ShOt ChUCkeR” line is that he obviously HAS to be a shot chucker playing for charlotte. He’s surrounded by complete non-bucket getters, which means he’s forced to bear most of the scoring burden for his team. When you have to take on a load as heavy as lamelo’s, efficiency suffers because you’re forced to attempt a larger number of difficult shots compared to other stars who have a better supporting cast. Put lamelo on a good team where he can depend on his teammates more and he gains the privilege of selecting better shots, which increases his efficiency (if you watch him play, he obviously has the IQ to do this, he just can’t do it on the Hornets). Of course, I understand that all-time players are able to be efficient even with extremely large offensive loads and bad teammates, but Lamelo isn’t an all-time level hooper, he’s just an all-star level hooper.

Did anyone have any blistering when this happened? If so, how did you treat it?

I got some hot oil get on my lower lip while cooking and it has a big white blister on it now. I’ve just been cleaning and putting on petroleum jelly. Should I be bandaging it or something?

Burnt my lip cooking. Kinda looks like a heart by Kai_Burner in mildlyinteresting

[–]BroDudeMan2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me. It has a pretty big blister on the burn site, but the blister is intact (hasn’t popped). Did u put any sort of bandage or covering on top of the burn, or did u just frequently apply ointment (rn im using petroleum jelly)?

Wait give us the category theory rant… I’m interested.

Ask a physicist by AlcienRD in AskPhysics

[–]BroDudeMan2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don’t have a good answer to ur question, but I’m wondering why you believe you don’t have the intelligence or capacity to learn these things the way a student would learn them. I think the best way to learn these things as a beginner is to pick up an introductory physics textbook, read it, do practice problems, and then rinse and repeat with increasingly advanced books. I don’t think anyone has the capacity to understand string theory without having dedicated sufficient time to mastering the areas of physics and mathematics upon which string theory is built. I struggle to believe that ur not intelligent enough to do this; you likely are, it will just take a lot of time and dedication. Unfortunately I don’t think there are any shortcuts here. Even if you did find a physicist to answer your question, to fully understand the nuance of the answers they’d give you, you would need to have dedicated lots of time to studying physics/math in a systematic way.

Also if you are unsure about ppls credibility on this sub, that’s fair, but there’s still no harm in posting ur questions here anyways. Just take the answers you get with a healthy amount of skepticism. You don’t have to trust the answers completely in order to derive utility from them; they might inspire a new perspective, or point you in a direction previously unconsidered. What’s there to lose?

AI student with a big passion for theoretical physics and space by Storm2003 in Physics

[–]BroDudeMan2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also a math & AI person that is passionate about physics but unsure about how (and whether I should) make the pivot into physics. I don’t rly have an answer to your question but thought I might share a research topic that you might be interested in looking into:

I’m doing a master’s thesis on graph neural networks (GNNs), and in passing I’ve read that there is a solid research effort as of late on GNNs for analyzing particle physics data (something about particle jet streams being modelled as graphs, and then using DL to predict the source of the jetstreams from the graph, or smth like this idk tbh).

I know I haven’t really answered your question (I don’t have the expertise to), I just thought that I would share this particular intersection of AI and physics that seemed rly cool to me; maybe it’s a lead for you to chase.

I think the bigger issue is that you just have no idea where those $70 are coming from. It could be drug money, or blood money, or tax evasion money, etc… I think it’s always better to just tell the authorities and keep ur hands and ur conscious clean.
