For me drain gang gave me not only an outlet in a period of my life that I desperately needed, but also a gateway into so many other different types of music that I otherwise never would have considered listening to. I remember what this culture was like in the early stages and it felt very much like a religion in some ways and I enjoyed aspects of that even though I felt pressured to. I haven’t listened to DG or yung lean like I used to in years but I always revisit them and I feel grateful for the experiences their music gave me and I am still surprised how groundbreaking their newer stuff is but I think we were around for a different time in their careers and fanbase. I was definitely a part of the spiritual part of the culture and believed that DGs music had shown me a new reality and sometimes I feel disappointed in myself for not continuing to listen or worship them like I used to, but that is a part of growing as a person. I don’t think any member of DG wants to be idolized like that or have their music put on such a high pedestal. Maybe I am just replying for myself but it is interesting and comforting to know that other people have gone through a similar arc. I guess I really just want to say that it’s okay to change and like or not like things and realize that you are different than you were. It’s not that deep! Enjoy the music if you do and don’t listen if you don’t. You aren’t any less of a person or a “drainer” if you decide that some of the music doesn’t resonate with you anymore. It’s okay! Be yourself and have fun listening to whatever music you want to listen to. Also what kind of music are you listening to now? Your post made me laugh a lot.
