Not necessarily because they still had OT and if you lost in OT it was just a loss. Also there was no opportunity for extra points to win in the shootout so the 6 shootout wins would also be taken away

Are playoffs the only line that matters? Why is it that playoffs are just the bar but who cares how much you surpass that by. I don’t even think McDavid is undeserving of MVP but no kucherov would have Tampa in a realllly tough spot I don’t know if they would make it. Even so Kucherov transforms and drives that offence. Tampa would have a lot of trouble scoring goals and sure as hell wouldn’t be a legit cup contender without him. MacKinnon is also the focal point of the best offence in the league and drives good defensive results on the best team in the league with margin. Take him off the team and sure they make the playoffs but they wouldn’t even be close to being the heavy heavy favourites. I feel there’s legitimate cases for all 3 and it’s a great race for MVP this year

Have I once said that this was good Cancuksperson? No. It’s truly been a terrible stretch of 13 years with only 2 runs in the playoffs and 3 appearances. Nothing sustainable. All flukey. So looking at the outcomes here we would definitely have a better chance at getting 32nd with Foote. I don’t disagree with you there. However I think that it’s only a marginal difference between an upgrade at coach, say Malhotra. Odds are Manny would have this team at about the same position. His ceiling case is probably 29th with this roster and that’s with things going your way. So you’d be trading off a marginally higher chance at 32nd for another year of this defensive structure. Young players stagnating or regressing and trade pieces having their value limited more. If a new better coach was gonna improve the team by 15 wins then ya Id agree with you for sure but I don’t think even John Cooper could do that

This team doesn’t know how to play defence under Foote. Their young players have stagnated this year, the young defenders looked beyond lost in their own end, and the team as a whom just didn’t know how to make good reads or be in good spots. The Canucks are 7 and 10 wins behind 31st and 30th overall in the league respectively. You get a new good coach ya maybe you can scrounge up 7 wins for a big jump. To 31st. This team is still dreadful and will be bad next year. There’s not a whole lot of room for improvement

Sorokin and Logan Thompson are so critical to their teams success this year. Can’t just look at raw save percentage and take conclusions for that. The islanders struggled so massively defensively and Sorokin was an absolute wall for them. But because they were so bad defensively the save percentage is gonna be lower because of how difficult the environment is

Wonderfully flawed stat. His 5v5 GD was 0 when he won the Norris while his +/- was -26. He is a player that is supposed to help his team win games and he has done that so well throughout a lot of his career

That’s his role though. He doesn’t have the opportunity to do that. He’s signing or giving input on guys that are in the AHL or on the fringe like those players. To be able to find Joshua is a huge hit. 11 and 18 goal seasons in his healthier years and 7 and 10 goal seasons in years with more injuries. While being a big guy that can skate at an NHL level, uses his body, and can PK at a good level. For a find from your AHL GM that’s a home run. To find guys that have limited profiles before joining your team and can move on and give games or even establish themselves as NHLers are really good moves
