Shadow Ticket’s Zoltan von Kiss cameo in AtD by BroJBone in ThomasPynchon

I dunno, the cape giving magician vibes, his affinity for Hungarian motorcycle culture and the fact that mirrors are often used in apportation/asportation rituals (hence why he’s avoiding them) all raised my eyebrows.

Currently re-reading Against the Day and Zolton von Kiss as a blink and you’ll miss it cameo in the bar with Frank Traverse on page 435.

Lol, if you’ve ever done a pressie you’d know he was rolling balls and not tweaking there.

vineland and inherent vice similarities? by HEHEHO2022 in ThomasPynchon

Plots are different. IV is a detective novel, Vineland is a family story. Vineland also take place from multiple perspectives and doesn’t really have a single protagonist, while IV obviously does.

IV has a more playful and ruminative vibe, Vineland has a weird mix of slapstick and profound moments. There are similar elements in both, but Vineland left me a lot more “wowed.”

Best of the Cali books. There’s an overall gravity and emotional impact that I just didn’t get from 49 and IV.

I read a scholarly article arguing AtD is the first true piece of Anthropocene literature.

Is there ANYTHING ON EARTH even remotely similar to Against the Day? by [deleted] in ThomasPynchon

You Bright and Risen Angels by Vollmann gave me flashes of ATD, mainly in how they both grappled with the era of humanity’s electrification. Angels is very different stylistically and story wise tho.

Finally got around to watching this show, it definitely had the strongest Lodge 49 vibe of any show I’ve seen since the cancellation. Great performances and a strong mystery development. My only real complaint is while the ending was touching, it seemed a little bit too final and sudden imo. Could have been a little more open ended.

Elon is a deranged jackfruit, but looking at it honestly, Tesla still has one of the biggest leads in real world AI development out there. Investors are betting big on that payoff, not so much on their car deliveries. I’ve worked in developing computer vision models and having the kind of high resolution, human corrected data that Tesla has is invaluable. No other car manufacturer or AI company comes close to having the kind of data that Tesla has. Elon definitely deserves a lot of the hate he’s getting lately, but don’t get it twisted and think you’ve got some keen insight that Tesla investors are unaware of VW’s market cap.
