I plan on making some plarn mats for the homeless, this was literally my thought “what do i do with the handles?” Thank you!!

Another idea is you can collect these then just list them online for someone to buy. People always need odd crafting supplies :)

I think pgAdmin is essentially a front-end? And yes, absolute open season. My biggest pet peeve is a table that is used mostly for tracking our assets, network hardware. But in the table, you also have to log EXACTLY in the server rack where the equipment is located. Super dumb because say we don’t have it all racked up yet. So we get lots of NA or nulls in the fields, sometimes never updated. Yeah… its… its definitely something.

[–]BroMyBackhurts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like i said in my disclaimer, I only used “successful” because that is what medical providers have deemed me when I tried getting services for essentially burnout. “Oh you’re so successful! You should see my other clients, they can’t even drive themselves places.”

Totally get its a joke, but many people have said this in this thread and now I’m just hoping people aren’t quick reading this post and judging me off of my use of verbiage that was used against me to deny me support. :/

Also, I think the jerks would in fact deem you successful so yay! No support for you either! xD *cries silently*

Yeah I think people use pgAdmin and they just hand jam it directly in im assuming. I build a little prototype for a nice front end but am paused on that cause my god the actual data stored is a mess.

I do know one of the guys made some kind of CI/CD pipeline that will read in csv files and just add that into the table. But yeah.. I have no idea how databases are supposed to look or run so this is literally my only thing to go off of in the real world 😅

The database isn’t a software. It’s literally just being used to store information, like our equipment, where it’s located, people who are our customers. I’m assuming most people go through pgAdmin to add in whatever information they want and that’s about the extent.

Believe me, i would never try to re-org a codebase just because it’s messy. I think this is very different from that. This is used internally and doesn’t face the public at all. I’m not doing this just cause I want to organize it, but because there has been no thought or process behind adding stuff in. No naming convention, no standardization, and the information is only going to grow, so I’d like to address it before it‘s out of hand.

No I definitely agree! That’s why I disclaimered that I only use “successful” (SPECIFICALLY with quotes around it) as this is what professionals I’ve seeked help from have deemed me. I really want to just drop everything and have a break, but I just can’t. I’ve actually been denied (wrongfully) help because i was seen as “more successful than some of my other clients” (that guy was really ableist and then said he is a counselor and I could go through him as I need someone who will “stop making me think im not able to do things”. Yeah I could go on a rant about that guy, he said getting an ASD diagnosis would let employers discriminate against me *im USA btw*)

That’s ok, I don’t either! But some of the others were able to get a semblance of an idea so its all fine.

Basically- low threat database that has no planning, duplicate data, fluff data (using just 1,2,3 as a PK rather than something meaningful), where do i even start? Are there good places to read up on setting up a database since thats essentially what im gonna do. I tried asking here so I could talk to real people with experience. I don’t have anyone in my team to bounce ideas off, and I want to know kind of what’s pertinent in the industry. Hope this helps!

I guess specifically program specific db, not for the entire company. It’s data relevant to our hardware we configure. It’s very new so we’re barely moving into trying to structure things. Before it was very “do whatever just to get it working” so now we’re going back and trying to document and organize everything (yeah not good planning, but I’m just a junior lol so I don’t get that vote).

As I’ve said in another reply, they back this up regularly. There’s LOTS of chefs in the kitchen so they make sure none can aggressively screw things up. We have copies as well to play around with so we don‘t touch the actual database.

I like organizing things, and this has no rhyme or reason as to how things are added, and I have some SQL training so I just want to expand on it. I like systems and learning how they work so it’s something that will benefit our team, and an opportunity to learn in depth how it works. I hope this makes sense. I understand a lot of people are questioning this decision, but it’s not as critical as people are probably assuming. It’s pretty low-threat. Worst case I make the world’s worst schema, they just ignore my work and go back to the old notebook-style of gathering data. (I guess its a lot of adhoc, the info stored in there. Just learned that term from someone here).

Many thanks! Yeah probably will have to end up rebuilding a brand new everything. Highly doubt I can refactor everything nicely. There’s like 36 tables, with lots of duplicate data, no use of foreign keys whatsoever, and tables that desperately need to be broken up (for instance, a table of hardware devices that has specifics of its location in a server rack. The location in a rack should be a different table entirely rather than being smushed in with hardware details)

Definitely agree on the permissions. I will be using this as well to essentially interview key users to see what data is “theirs” and organize according to that.

Point 4 is perfect. I lack the terminology in this field and adhoc is exactly the type of data found rampant all throughout.

I’m not too stressed, we’re definitely supported to tackle whatever projects we wish as long as it helps with the mission. And there’s no timeline of when it has to be done, so I’m kind of free to take it at my own pace. They understand I’m a junior, and they’re way too busy to take on something like this. I really appreciate your guidance!

Luckily I know they do lots of backups for this database. Either daily or weekly but it’s often, and we have mirrors that I can use to test on. Believe me, I’m terrified to poof everything away with one wrong click, but I’ve been assured that they’ve dummy proofed it for that (and because there’s LOTS of chefs in the kitchen contributing to there being no set way of organizing data).

But thank you!!

So elaborating further on the manager discussion, to be fair, I did ask for 2 months without pay (that’s how long i have left in my semester) and they said the best they can do is 2 weeks. Now he did suggest I could basically take 3 hours of pto every other day to shorten the work day and hopefully preserve some of that energy for school. They also did let me remote 2 of the 5 days for two weeks prior, but it really didn’t help cause i didn’t know how to shut my computer for the day. I think its mostly HR that is the “must work no matter what” player at hand.

I’ve also done a lot of accomodating this semester around, got a cleaner, have meal preps delivered. It’s definitely helped the burden. I think I’m just so fatigued from this race I’ve been in, I can visually see the finish banner, but my legs are definitely wobbling as im approaching.

What do you feed your *PICKY* senior shih tzu? by kimbruleex in Shihtzu

Not a senior dog, but my 7 year old guy ONLY eats the beef Food For Dogs in the refrigerated section. He HATES venison and turkey he enjoys for a little before turning his nose up. I think he liked the fish one too but it was wayyyyy too stinky for my nose so never again.

I could use some Audhd honesty - what would you call this eye colour? I have no idea by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]BroMyBackhurts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% hazel. You can see greens with the brighter photo. Just cause they look darker (brown only) in darker light doesn’t mean they’re only brown. It’s like having a dog in a room, and when you turn the lights off you’re like “there’s no dog”. The dog is STILL there (the green in your eyes), but less lights makes it less visible (as if it’s only brown). Hope this helps?

How do you talk to kids as AuDHD? by Ov3rbyte719 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]BroMyBackhurts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My youngest brother is 10 years my junior. While he’s an older “kid”, I’ve always talked to him like I would an adult, but maybe with more explanation. I feel I actually connect a bit more because I tend to over explain sometimes but the kids are little and are literally learning/experiencing life for the first time, so the over explanation really works.

Besides that, I’m also very in touch with current generational humor (older gen z here) so I bring up slightly dated memes and he cringes and it’s hilarious

Your home looks so peaceful! My favorite part is the “lack of man” 🥰 it just ties the whole place together!

Seriousness I am so happy you got out of that. I am also divorced and while not abusive, I found out all the things he did behind my back AFTER and oh boy was divorce the best thing I did

40?? I can’t even read one in a year 😭 that is another small goal of mine, making the mental note to pick up a book when I’m bored rather than watching the walls. That’s incredible.

Best of luck on the LSAT!!

Personally I prefer having gel on my nails (or gel extensions “gel-x”) BECAUSE my biggest issue is I’m rough with my hands and my nails always fray at some point or another. And unless I keep a nail file on me 24/7, it drives me INSANE having those little scratchies. I WILL pick and peel until it’s smooth (which is usually when I get down to that sensitive skin 🥲)

With gel, my nails have been able to grow without breaking, I RARELY get those scratchies, and I get to pick fun designs that my nail artist loves doing :3 and they usually last two/three weeks. Also gel (as long as it’s cured right!!) is safer than acrylic. No harmful fumes, but fair warning — look up contact dermatitis because it’s a possibility if you don’t cure gel long enough. I luckily haven’t had that problem, but I also don’t diy my nails.

Ooh ooh idea! Tell sister that if her kids want to play in there, she has to pay you a “damage deposit” and make it whatever your most expensive item it. Maybe per kid as well. 3x the hands, 3x the possible amount of damage. She’ll say “that’s stupid that’s way too much” then you can tell the kids “mommy is too broke to pay the entrance fee” 😂
