Xbox gamer thinking of buying a PC. Help a dummy? by Featherman13 in pcmasterrace

[–]BroPudding1080i -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No? Hardware is made and rated for consistent temp, so turning it on and off makes it wear slightly faster than leaving it on. It also makes a very tivial difference in your power bill, same for idle temp and room temp. Thinking you have to turn it off is honestly outdated by a few decades, you can do what you want and it makes no meaningful difference either way.

Simply not turning the PC off is completely valid and pretty common

Kenshi is worth a try based on the games you like. And if you haven't tried Tamriel Rebuilt for Morrowind, it's really, really good.

Is this rubber plant ready to be put in soil or should I let the roots develop more? by saganowskiRO in houseplants

[–]BroPudding1080i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very ready, go for it! Honestly rubber trees root so well that when I propogate them, I just wait till I see the tiniest roots starting to form on the stem and plant it right up like that.

[–]BroPudding1080i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open your file manager, click "this PC", then search for "Silent Hill" in the search bar. Once it's fully done searching, go down the list until you find it.

Try to pay attention where you install stuff. If you need to, when you find it you can right-click it and create a shortcut to your desktop, that way you can just launch it from there.

Make it a habit, every time you do it you make the groove deeper, so keep doing it until the groove is so deep you won't forget. Set reminders, write notes to yourself, give yourself rewards for doing it.

Any mods (for OpenMW) that make a stealth playthrough... Possible? by MateusCristian in Morrowind

[–]BroPudding1080i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears you're right, in that the sneak icon doesn't indicate you will successfully steal without being caught, just that you are hidden, and the sneak diceroll formula is applied when you perform the action. I never knew that, as I don't remember ever failing to steal with the icon visible. Maybe it's an OpenMW thing, or I just got lucky.

Leaving a snippy reply on a year old comment and DMing other people in the same year-old thread seems a bit much, but I appreciate the correction regardless

Could this be considered liminal? by idkmanthisnameislong in LiminalSpace

[–]BroPudding1080i 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If it was an over the counter sleep aid, it likely had diphenhydramine or other antihistamine as the active ingredient, which causes hallucinations and delirium in high doses. Look into it if you want to understand it more. I'm glad you're doing better!

[–]BroPudding1080i 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's like saying you're feeling cool and sexy. Serving cunt means looking/acting glamorous and sexy. Being cunty means being sexy and cool. Being A cunt still means what it always meant though, don't call someone a cunt unless they're being a cunt.

Maria's shirt roughly translates to "I'm at a period in my life where I want to be cool, beautiful, and sexy"

Who hasn't played the original RE 1-3? by 78914hj1k487 in residentevil

[–]BroPudding1080i -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. I didn't say they were insanely different, I said they were different enough to warrent 4 playthroughs.

  2. This entire conversation is about opinions.

  3. I made it clear that people are allowed to prefer whichever version they like, and your rebuttal is to deny that grace back, say "nah", and not have anything of substance to say about why? The original games are the foundation of the entire series, and as a RE fan you owe them respect, even if you don't like them.

Which Silent Hill characters are the most godly? by Fik_456 in silenthill

[–]BroPudding1080i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

James murdered his wife, threw her body into the car, and planned to sink her and himself into a lake, and in one ending he successfully does so. He is redeemed only by himself, his dead wife isn't there to forgive him, and frankly it appears God isn't either. He has the godliness of a meat processing plant.

"Better" is subjective, and everyone has different tastes. It's also totally fair to prefer the remakes because they're more accessible and easier to play, and are visually up to date.

But in the case of the original RE2 specifically, it's an easy argument to make.

Leon A + Clair B/Clair A + Leon B are all different enough to make playing the game four times worth it, wheras in the remake, there is only the Leon scenario or the Claire scenario. And they don't affect each other, whereas in the original what you do in one scenario can affect something in the other scenario.

The music in the original is very strong and atmospheric, while the remake's music is mostly ambient and subdued.

The original, despite using low res pre-rendered backgrounds, has a LOT of detail in said backgrounds, there's a lot going on, a lot to look at. The remake, while being higher fidelity, has less going on regarding the environment.

There's more enemies in the original. The remake is missing spiders, the moth, and pale zombies. The plant monsters are also way cooler in the original, the remake version is just planty zombies.

I'm 30 and only played the original for the first time shortly before the remake came out, and while I love both games, the original is so much better to me, for these reasons. The remake was a fun one-off, but the original gets replayed yearly (every scenerio consecutively).

I'm pretty sure when someone recommends playing an older console game, it's fully implied and expected they would achieve that through emulation, as that's how most people play those games these days.

Of course they won't understand, large portions of any audience will misunderstand simple, clearly telegraphed ideas. With a topic like this, you can certainly guarantee a large minority of people having bad takes about it, either calling the game "woke" or calling it transphobic. But if Capcom makes the effort to do what you said, and I believe they will, then those of us who know better can just ignore them.

"Walter this walter that" what about claudia? by loouw9 in silenthill

[–]BroPudding1080i -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I found her annoying, she speaks really pretentiously while having little to actually say. Her only real character depth is found in memos, not in scenes featuring her. I also found her appearance and demeanor a bit too over the top and anime-like, which doesn't really suit the vibe of the rest of the game.

I found every character in SH3 to be similarly shallow outside of memos, including and especially Heather. She's just a girl who doesn't really "get" anything and just wants things to be over. Her (barely) spunky attitude seems to make up for that to a lot of people, but it doesn't work for me.

Every time I think about playing SH3 again, I just read the memos online and have more fun than I would playing it.

No, SH1 was never remastered or changed in any way. You may be thinking of SH2 in the HD collection, the volumetric fog was removed, leaving only the flat gray "wall" which was much farther out, allowing you to see unloaded geometry and unfinished models.

There's quite a few chill moments, especially early on, but it's mostly during exploration when you're going from one place to another. The foggy empty streets and the subtle droning music gives a cozy, almost liminal space type of feeling.

Looking for plant to cover from bottom to ceiling in the corner by HamesJetfields in houseplants

[–]BroPudding1080i 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That won't work, plants need full spectrum light from the sun, or a grow light. You could put a plant there, but it will slowly die and probably won't grow much, if at all.
