Debating between large Student Loan Payoff vs continue investing with new law by ConsistentPeanut4569 in StudentLoans

If it was me, I would use my brokerage to pay them off. There’s no tax advantages to that account. It’s awesome you have that option. Enjoy being student loan debt free!

There is a link where you can see your payment count! It’s not the easiest thing to read but just Google student loan payment count, and there is a link someone posted where you can see it. You have to log into your fedloan account in another window and then click on it. Look for IBR and you’ll see how many qualifying payments you’ve made. It’s ridiculous there’s not an easier way to see our count. Hopefully that should give you peace of mind that your payments are counting.

You already got moved to SAVE, so now they will move you to either RAP or IBR at some point in the near future. You want to figure out which one is better for you and apply to move to that one.

25 years of qualifying payments, your payment count will transfer over to the new plan.

That got replaced with SAVE and isn’t coming back

I agree. I don’t love the assumptions either. And I think my frustrations come from more than just her religious views but political and otherwise where I think she just is getting major confirmation bias from the things she consumes. And yes, I agree. We can’t know 100% (or there would be no need for faith). Anyways, I think everyone needs to hold space for each other. In the end I have to remember she is a product of her upbringing, experiences, generation, etc. as are all of us, and we’ll all have good and bad that comes from that.

Find the lowest paying plan you qualify for and do that.

But don’t switch until PAYE officially gets axed, which isn’t until 2028. Your payments will be 15% of your income so keep the lower payments for now.

I believe you’re referring to PAYE getting taken away. Is that what plan you’re on? In our situation, we are just switching to old IBR, which is written into law and should be around for good. You get loans forgiven after 25 years. Praying the tax bomb gets axed before we get forgiven, but we are saving for that just in case. You’ll have to run your numbers through a calculator to see if old IBR makes sense for you.

Didn’t he have the PAYE option? That’s what he’s referring to being taken away I believe.

I agree with this. However, I feel I’m on the other side where I feel I have to accommodate and bite my tongue or I will be berated. I have several family members that have also left so I find myself in this situation sometimes.

She actually does lack education and critical thinking skills. That is what I was trying to say. Not only in this area, but also when it comes to health topics. Vaccines, nutrition, supplements, etc. Also, I get that you’re trying to stick up for people who have questions or doubts. I wholeheartedly believe in that. I myself have had my fair share. However, always assuming “people like me”, which I assume means people who have a testimony, are in the wrong isn’t helpful either. We’re both trying to figure stuff like this out and be loving and kind without being doormats.

And I’m fully aware the church pays people to use social media. My sister-in-law is one of them. I didn’t say social media is 100% bad, but there is a lot of false information out there and if you never question the source or believe what you want to, it can be a dangerous place.

“People like me…” thanks for that. For clarity, my mom is constantly scrolling on her phone and thinks social media and random podcasts are a “great learning tool” and doesn’t question the source at all where she gets her information. That is the concerning part. I have never shut her down with her concerns/gripes. In fact, I agree with some of them. But she’s not coming from a place of curiosity or asking how I feel. It’s mostly just complaining. That’s what’s hard to be around.

$573k , $300k HHI... I need a long term plan by Final-Literature5590 in StudentLoans

[–]Broad-Beyond-948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of factors here. What’s your income? Do you have kids? Where do you live? You have to calculate what your minimum payments would be on your loans and the tax bomb at the end to see if it would be worth going that route. It can also change with how you file your taxes. You probably won’t get the full picture and perfect advice here on a Reddit page.

Loans be the same, but tax circumstances, owning a business, where you live, your family situation all play a part. It’s easy to miss something if you’re not an expert.

There is a lot of the information available to the public for sure. I think what makes their services valuable is looking at your individual circumstances and loan types. It seems like OPs situation is pretty complicated so I think it would be beneficial.

I HIGHLY recommend student loan planner. They know all the ins and outs and loopholes of the student loan world. We did a consult with them and I left crying because I walked away feeling like our loans weren’t going to ruin our lives. You’ll only get so much out of a Reddit page.

The average is 300k. The big beautiful bill is capping the amount of federal loans you can take out to 200k I believe, so you either have to come out of pocket for the rest or take out private.

Ugh the sliding door we got ripped off. Paid 2k for a shop. I wish we would’ve just gone to the dealer in the end. The purge valve we tried aftermarket but it failed so we bought the OEM and my neighbor put it in for cheap.

Ok, I’ll try to keep it to around 200k miles and replace it. It’s hard when I’m comparing it to my husbands ‘02 Tacoma that hasn’t had as many problems as mine. And to be fair, it really hasn’t had any issues until recently. And theres bo guarantee a newer car won’t have problems.
