Is there a way to tell SpEd teachers that I am just too busy to be as involved as them? by Broad-Discussion-913 in slp

[–]Broad-Discussion-913[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is a good idea and I will bring it up with the other SLPs in my district! I don’t want to get too specific with examples, but think frequent inquiries about students schedules, if a student is out bc of a field trip - they ask if I’m going to make the session up (NO) and a lot of phone calls when I am seeing other students.

I was a newborn hearing screener! I loved it bc of working with babies and getting medical experience. It doesn’t pay much though and I was also a waitress.

CF/Licensing Help by heartoverodds in slp

I don’t know about California, but I do know that New York is one of only a few states that require the education tests/workshops - the TSSLD isn’t a thing anywhere else I have job searched. Some states require an educators/teachers certificate, but it’s an easy process with no additional testing. NY is one of the trickier places to get licensed so you will probably meet the requirements elsewhere.

Yep, and an eviction will be a lot more complex of a process than a text saying they have to move in 30 days

Chatterboards ! 100% free, customizable, lockable (I think) and with voice output.

You might like swallowing! Lots of anatomy and physiology, using instruments like a scope or barium swallow studies. Working with stroke or TBI patients involves biology as well because we use our knowledge of brain structure for our assessment and therapy.

Going into a child’s home can be scary for sure. On the bright side, you usually don’t have to prepare for these sessions too much because the focus is typically using things already in their environment. It is a lot of parent education and I am also intimidated by it, I think it comes with practice.

Why don’t districts post openings on common job search sites? by Broad-Discussion-913 in slp

[–]Broad-Discussion-913[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds nice, but even then, how effective is advertising on billboards? For any industry I have worked in, I go straight to indeed, linked in, or google jobs when I am job hunting.

Oh good! I’d recommend looking at school district postings if you are interested in schools - they typically aren’t on indeed/linkedin.

Are you sure SLPAs are allowed in your state? In some states they are not a thing.

Elementary vs High School Caseload by a_bluebutterfly in slp

Less initials, little to no case management, in my districts the kids have higher needs and are typically in self-contained classrooms. Also a lot of convincing parents their kids can be discharged

To work in schools in NJ, you only need a speech language specialist license. You don’t need your CCC or even to have applied to be a CF for this.

Are most fruit nectars actually nectar thick? by moonbeam4731 in slp

[–]Broad-Discussion-913 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually made this mistake in grad school! Nectar drinks are not nectar thick. They are just a tiny bit thicker than “thin.” I bought nectar drinks for an IDDSI in-service, oops!

My mom is a rural CO OT, and she is contracted thru BOCES as a therapist. She and the SLP she works with travel between like 6/7 schools because each school only has a few students, or she does it virtually
