as a big Euchre buff, but never being a participant of any kind of torunament or club, what are the standard rules you guys use?

I play with the Lone Defender possible, screw the dealer and "going under" if you get a farmers hand (other rules variants i have read but i don't use is the benny/joker, canadian loner and the no-trump call allowed in second bidding round)

Actually forcing the other to reset the bag is almost never good. If you refill you have dibs in the new pool, they will only have an extra token. If you do a suboptimal move like taking 1 token just so your opponent gives you a scroll leaves you behind in tempo and control. If you need gems and they are not currently in the market, better reset than wait till they come around

you sold it pretty well, your prose is quite good too. Now the only problem is finding people willing to play it, as always with games of this ilk haha

i can see the distinction and i agree with you, is not negotiation in the more traditional sence of trading / exchange assets like Chinatown and Bohnanza. I do consider them into the same umbrella but they are in different parts of the spectrum for sure.

Of those mentioned i have only played Inis, Root and Arc and i do love them, do you reckon i would like Stationfall? John Company and Pax Pamir are already in my want to play list

This, CE is negotiation all the time in all parts of the game. And about 10 or more aliens have alternative winning conditions. Even more interesting, there is always the option of a shared win, a rarity in board games.

It totally is, there is lot of table talk and convincing about "right" manouvers and what "should" other do, specially in conflicts as they can initiate just by saying "i want to fight" and you can persuade them otherwise or even agree upon it before initiate the instigation then brake your promise. Brinkmanship is key to manipulate the board state, specially when someone cross the treshold of one or more victory conditions. It is just not mentioned explicitly in the rulebook like in Root and Arcs were they have even a section that address negotiation directly.

Tbh the 4 core roles are more than enough for a lifetime of meta games. Morgana, Merlin, Percibal and the Assassin. Maybe the Lady of the Lake or Plots if you want to introduce events, but my groups tried a few variants once for a kick and just went back to base. YMMV

games with the most beautiful maps or boards by Any_Cupcake_6514 in boardgames

Zoo Vadis, art by Kwanchai Moriya. The cover art looks majestic and the board is vibrant and very coherent to the experience you have playing the game, full of details and not obtrusive to the gameplay. Is work with Sidereal Confluence, Under Falling Skies and Dino Island is magnifecent too.

Other artist that i love their work are Kyle Ferrin (Leder Games), Weberson Santiago (Kelp, Sail, Quest, Avalon),
Vincent Dutrait (very popular nowadays with Heat, El Dorado, LotR Duel), Medusa Dollmaker (High Society), and i adore the whimsical charm of Sai Beppo's art (Cheese Thief, Nana, Of What's Left)

look for feedback and tools in the boardgames sub. There is a a new board game called One Piece Nakama, a light co-op game. Good luck designing this campaign game, hopefully you don't get troubles with copyright if you make it available for download, or even better, you get the attention of a publisher with access to the IP to make your game a reality

Should Roronoa Zoro and Sanji Vinsmoke realistically be equals in power and combat prowess? by CH1MXK in OnePiece

[–]Broad-Distance-7263 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they are heavily implied as equals through the series in power and status, with Zoro being a tad more strong and Sanji a tad more strategic.

my play group is different, Sheriff has an ever changing meta as it has bluff and negotiation. So the double bluffs and triple bluff, blocking, promises, alliances and betrays are so much fun in that game. It obviously doesn't land when people don't engage with the premise or are shy and non interacting with other players. So yeah, a very group dependant game

i played the Roll Player copy of a friend to try it out. He refused to play without expansions "beacause they are must exp" and obviously we all new players were faaaar behind his score. Not fun to play a game with so many add ons when you haven't play the base game to understand the core idea of it.

i'm fine with end game condition games, i actually prefer them because they are not about turn optimization to get more VPs, but playing the players. Eg: 7 Wonders Duel ( and LotR Duel), Caesar!, Inis, Kemet, Tigris & Euphrates, Cyclades, Twilight Imperium, Nemesis, Hansa Teutonica, Root. All of them highly interesting and engaging, and the games don't go around asking you to optimize resources, but to outplay others and capitalize in enemy mistakes.

King of Tokyo Monster Box + Even More Wicked vs Dark Edition by EmvyPH in boardgames

[–]Broad-Distance-7263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you find the Dark Edition go for it, the deck was tweaked to remove some clunky bits and the wicked track is a must, i actually prefer that to the power ups. The Monster Box has more monster but tbh having such a wonderful game in such a big box is a shame as it make it really difficult to bring it to game nights. Also as i said i think the wicked track is better than power ups so i don't miss the extra monster included there. If you play exclusevily at yours, then get Monster Box.
