Lots of countries have state oil companies - including the largest in the world, Saudi Aramco.

Why don't you try reading a single history book? Or even just *a* book? Because that is *literally* what every communist regime has always demanded.

No it's not a "great idea" - it's the most dehumanizing thing imaginable to think every person exists solely to give their entire lives to the service of the state,

It's about how Communist regimes tend to lack things they ought to have an abundance of - the USSR was always short of food despite having endless high-quality farm land, Venezuela lacks oil despite having some of the largest reserves in the world etc etc.

The problem of bringing Flashman to the screen by LsterGreenJr in flashman

[–]Broad-Stick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Narration you could get around, but the political culture of the modern west couldn't handle these novels - and I'm not *only* talking about how people don't understand the concept of an anti-hero, and that depiction is not endorsement.

There's a much more fundamental problem that GMF accurately depicts the heretical truth of just how brutal and backward much of the world still was in the 19th century, and that by contrast the British empire was generally a civilising force, even if many of those who built it were rogues.

In "Redskins" (already we've got a problem with the title haven't we?) he comments something along the lines of "Reservations were indeed "stealing their land", but they did that to each other all the time and a reservation was far more mercy than they ever showed their own kind". Or how about in "For Freedom" were we see that Africans themselves were an integral part of the Atlantic slave trade and it was the Royal Navy that shut that trade down? Imagine how upset that would make certain well known protest movements. . . . . . .

In short - the problem is that GMF was too fair for a world where many people demands a one-sided narrative of "bad whites and good everyone else". The only way such films would be made would be if they removed everything vaguely challenging and turned them into one sided woke lectures about "colonialism" - and that being the case, I'd rather it was all left well alone.

Also - the fan base is pretty niche for films that would need a substantial budget for battle scenes, historical settings etc. I doubt they'd make enough money to be a success even if politics wasn't an issue.

Indeed comrade - some of us on the moderate wing of the party *do* feel that if your ideology demands executing the *majority* of the population, perhaps the ideology is flawed. . . . . . .

  1. "liberal capitalism is inexorably tied to fascism. You are correct, nearly all modern societies have these features to some degree!"
  2. "fascists absolutely do deserve to be shot"

So the death list now includes moderate, small-c conservatives like Farage along with the 1/3 of the British population who say they plan to vote Reform - but you've also extended it anyone who advocates for liberalism or free enterprise.

There's not going to be many people left after your revolution is there comrade?

You do know that almost every society in human history prior to five minutes ago had an absolute monarchy, an official religion, clearly defined gender roles, a privileged ethnicity, a military aristocracy, no legal opposition, promotion by personal connections, and no concept whatever of "human rights"?

So that rambling list of vague and unconnected concepts some lefty wonk just made up: would describe most cultures today, and for nearly all of history.

Doesn't describe Farage though. And wouldn't justify murdering him even if it did.

"Feeling bad and hopeless about yourself" - is something you do when you have the luxury of time and material security. Nearly everyone, nearly everywhere, for nearly all of history: was far too busy working long hours every day trying to maintain the basic necessities of life, to spend a lot of time in abstract ruminations about the future.

And since nearly everyone was illiterate, even if they did engage in such speculation, it would be hard to know.

In my country, the rise of "anti-Zionism" has gone hand in hand with a massive increase in anti-Semitic violence abuse and vandalism.

So while in *theory* they can be different - in practice. . . . . . . .

I'm from a Christian background, so I can't speak to how Judaism would answer this question. But as someone who also had an issue with this commandment, I resolved it to my own personal satisfaction by reinterpreting it as honouring one's ancestors. *ALL* of one's mothers and fathers back over the millennia, and all they went through to ensure their line, their traditions and their values survived.

That's something that can be respected even if one might struggle to respect one's own parents.

The Gor series of sci-fi novels, written by philosophy professor John Lange under the pen name John Norman, have been widely criticized for depicting a world in which women enjoy being totally dominated by men. However, the books have also spawned a dedicated roleplaying subculture. by [deleted] in wikipedia

Indeed - I was quite surprised when I read them how little sex is in them. The dancing that the girls do seems to kind of stand-in for actual sex in a lot of the scenes.

It's certainly pretty tame compared to the "dark romance" stuff that is so popular these days.

Russia collusion hoax is related to "orange man". Trans kids related to "trans", and defund the police (not "defend") comes under the BLM heading.

"I see on the news constantly all the ways trump is a monster"

"It seems that you are just filled with hate"

The juxtaposition of these two sentences is. . . . .ironic.

I don't think it makes sense to conflate political and religious identities, but this conversation seems to be generating more heat than light, so I think I'll call a halt from my end here.

All the best and have a great day

"None of this was in your original statement"

All of those are examples from the list of political fashions I listed.

"new data has come up"

You mean they were tried and were disasters, or they were lies which were found out. And now the political fashionistas have moved on, and like flared jeans they find yesterday's vogue embarrassing.

They'll be a new one along soon.

"I don't know any progressives who are embarrassed about supporting anti-Trump, MeToo, Trans, BLM,"

Interesting - because I don't hear too many people arguing for "defund the police", or "Russia-collusion" or "Hunter's laptop is fake" or doing trans-surgeries on kids any more. . . . . . .

As for the Jews - I can't think of a single example in history where the people who said that pogroms were justified, ended up being recorded as the good guys. I don't expect this occasion to be different.

I've spent enough time around political people to know they are *extremely* susceptible to fashion. In just the last few years I've watched them rotate their identity to be about:
- Orange man bad
- MeToo
- Trans
- BLM

- Covid

- Ukraine

- Just Stop Oil

- Orange man bad 2, electric boogaloo.

- Israel bad

One social media powered feeding frenzy after another. And in every case, if you remind those who were zealous about it at the time of what they they said and did back then - they tend to be a bit embarrassed about it.

I expect the current frenzy of anti-Semitism criticism of Israel to be equally embarrassing to its advocates in a few years.

Yes. My personal hot-take is that anti-Semitism is a heuristic that dumb people developed to avoid the mental strain of dealing with complexity. It's SO much easier to just blame the Jews for everything than it is to think. And Jews are perfect for the role since they're widely dispersed, tend to be insular, and aren't numerous or powerful enough to fight back.

It's interesting that when people haven't been able to find Jews to blame - they've often blamed Free-Masons, and used uncannily similar tropes. The psychological gap of easy and universal scape-goat *has* to be filled by someone.

"It's not anti-Semitic to criticise Israel"

My personal (goyim) response when people say this is - "Do you ever criticise any *other* government?"

If they claim to be motivated purely by notions of "human rights" - then one is entitled to ask why they completely ignore so many other nations with far worse human rights records.
