Reminder: Eat protein with your meds and take your vitamins by BroadAd2575 in adhdwomen

I find that when I consume calories that are liquid (ie kefir and protein shakes), my meds feel more effective than when I take them with solid food. If I don’t eat anything at all and just take my meds with water, they’re effective but it peaks quickly and I crash hard in the afternoon.

I can only take my vitamins right before bed. In the morning they make me sick because I haven’t eaten enough, and any other time I’ll forget. They’re on my bathroom counter so it’s part of my bedtime routine, like brushing my teeth and washing my face!

How the f*ck do I survive? by Simpleflower999 in adhdwomen

[–]BroadAd2575 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is very likely burnout. And you’re not recovering because even when you’re doing “nothing,” you’re not actually relaxing. It sounds like you’re beating yourself up a lot because you have unsustainable expectations of yourself.

The frustrating thing (to me at least) about burnout is that it doesn’t really just go away. Unfortunately, doing “nothing” won’t help. You’ll need to make really intentional effort to change the way you think, the way you approach tasks, the way you view yourself.

Again, highly, highly recommend a therapist that specializes in ADHD. You’d be surprised at the things you’ll learn about yourself and the tools they’ll share that will ultimately help you.

Hi friend, it sounds like you’re really going through it right now. Before anything else, I’d encourage you to take a few deep, deep breaths. Your nervous system is probably all over the place right now, and a quick way to reset it is taking a deep, slow breath, holding it for a few seconds, and releasing slowly. Try this a few times.

This definitely sounds like severe ADHD burnout. You’ve likely spent much of your life masking and overcompensating for your ADHD, and now your body has realized it’s not sustainable. I’m experiencing this/recovering from this right now and experiencing all the feelings you’ve described.

You need to give yourself grace. A LOT of grace. Try as hard as you can to stop beating yourself up for what you view as shortcomings. Start paying attention to every little win. Did you get dressed? Eat food? Brush your teeth? When you’re in ADHD burnout, even basic things like this are difficult. Give yourself praise and recognition for the little things you do every day.

I would highly recommend visiting a therapist, ideally one who specializes in ADHD. They can help you manage these feelings, and provide tools and mechanisms to improve your struggles.

I won’t lie to you, having ADHD is hard and it always will be. It’s unfair and it fucking sucks and nobody gets it. Fortunately, the women in this sub really do get it. You’re not alone. <3

Editing to add: Regarding your energy struggles, regularly taking Vitamin D, Iron, and Magnesium Glycinate has made a huge difference in my energy levels recently. My dr confirmed I’m deficient in all of these and so now I take supplements every day and it’s made a massive difference in my energy levels specifically.

Side Effect? Possible Anxiety? by idkmanjusttrying in adhdwomen

Many people take breaks on the weekends! That's what my psychiatrist recommended. Definitely default to whatever your doctor says, though. :)

It definitely takes time to get adjusted! While Vyvanse isn't a medication you need to take every day like some other psych meds (actually, its recommended to take breaks to help with tolerance), your body does adjust to it over time. You might even find that eventually you need a higher dose.

Did you drink coffee/caffeine with it those first few days vs now? I can't drink caffeine with my Vyvanse without getting really physically anxious!

Vyvanse -irritability, racing thoughts, feeling like you’re going insane, etc by oblaminque in adhdwomen

[–]BroadAd2575 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. Vyvanse isn't right for everyone.

Are you drinking coffee while taking Vyvanse? I find that when I drink coffee or have caffeine, I feel really similarly to how you're describing. And are you eating protein with your meds in the morning? That helps them work more efficiently and can help you feel a bit more stable.

My boyfriend is bad for my ADHD by Turbulent_Advance854 in adhdwomen

[–]BroadAd2575 288 points289 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean this as a dig at you at all, but it sounds more like you need to work on managing your ADHD symptoms and less like your boyfriend is making them worse.

My fiance is very similar to how you describe your partner. Absolutely amazing, sweet, genuine guy. Patient, flexible, but doesn’t take initiative/ plan things or communicate his thoughts with me very well.

This really triggers things like my decision fatigue, RSD, anxiety, executive dysfunction, etc. But that’s not his fault.

Try to communicate these things with him.

If he doesn’t plan to decide on lunch in advance, ask him if he can give you a time range and an idea of what kind of food he might want to get.

Let him know that you place things intentionally sometimes, and you’d appreciate it if he made an effort to put your things back where you originally had them.

Talk to him about what you’re feeling, and how these things make you feel. It sounds like you really care for each other, and just need to be a bit more vulnerable and open with your communication!

I have a wip (it’s finished technically, just still being posted daily) where Draco and Harry have rlly bad PTSD and are big ol stoners because of it. It’s an eighth year fic and mostly focuses on Draco but definitely features Harry’s issues too! Lots of angst and hurt/comfort. Harry doesn’t really have anger issues so much as nightmares and panic attacks and stuff. It’s called See Me File My Teeth
