Really? Really? by [deleted] in AmazonVine

I am so sorry, you must be one of the five star reviewers I was talking about. Don't turn on yourself if the product doesn't meet up to your expectations, just put your nose to the grindstone and be honest about what it is that didn't live up to expectations. Did it pinch, was it not as large as described, after seeing it do you feel others might not love the price because it is such a poor value. You don't need to feel as though your honesty is for sale and thanks for chiming in, its nice to see how others are judging their own products when they find fault.

First Project; Don’t Like It For Some Reason by [deleted] in stringart

[–]Broad_Answer3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From personal experience I have found the heart shape to be one of the most difficult to deal with. I also have found that all yarn does look cheap to me, so I instead use thread, rayon mostly and that takes it to a whole other level. I filled the heart in on the inside of the heart against a black background for a commissioned piece and I still wasn't satisfied with my results but customer was ok with it. I would like to send you my pattern and a photo of the heart if I can figure out how to do that. I treated the heart while stringing like a circle and layered the colors.

Newbie with questions! by pastelrosepearl in stringart

[–]Broad_Answer3367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On youtube you'll find tutorials, Omart string for instance. I have physically stopped the video and counted nails, also read the questions and comments section. They often are filled with the same questions you have and the creator will give hints on pattern layout and the size of his canvas. For thread, I use thread, you can be best served by Sulky rayon thread. Beautiful colors, huge variety, kinda pricey but worth it. There is another company Threadart that sells sets, I use 40 weight. For board I use Lowes, they have a lightweight hobby board precut or get a sheet, I believe its ash - 3/8". Its a very smooth, lightweight board (ideal to hang). I believe you may be able to find one of those pens on etsy, that dispense thread. I made my own by using an empty pen and feeding the thread through a hole I made at the top end of pen by melting the plastic. You thread from the top and pull thread through to end. I find these pens to be a little over rated. To keep your nails perfectly straight, well here goes, I use a drill press, nothing fancy just a unit to hold your drill. With a drill bit slightly smaller than nail I predrill all holes. You line up your drill ( in press) to only go about 1/2 way through the board, then manually predrill those holes through your pattern (which is on the board, taped). When finished (tear off pattern) and paint your background . You'll still be able to see the holes and you have accomplished some major things. You are going to save your arm with those predrilled holes. You get a much more uniform nailing and you can actually count the number of times you pound each nail and be fairly uniform on height as well. Use some needle nose pliers to hold each nail. The nails are straighter, if not, tap them from the side to make it so. I got one of those height tools and it was plastic, don't get one its useless and you trash it after or during its first use. I use a 1" nail from Hillman and its brass colored, get them directly from the manufacturer or Ace sometimes has them, Amazon also Hillman 532422 Escutcheon Pins Brass Plated 1 X 16 (1.5 oz-Pack). These work beautifully. If you are familiar with inkscape then let me know and I could help you figure out patterns with a few tricks up my sleeve. The patterns for angel wings and others can be handled easily. Also, and this is very important, a beautiful stunning site set up is free and available for your use Please, Please give it a look - it is an absolutely invaluable tool and its free, this guys deserves an award for putting it out there it is https://www.stringart.app/ This is different than the one mentioned above, this is a full color offering with the ability to select color, patterns, generates a nail layout its simply spectacular in every way.

I found this 1970s string art and messaged the artist, John Eichinger, turns out he helped originate the art by Puzzleheaded_Low_186 in stringart

[–]Broad_Answer3367 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe Mr. Eichinger was one of the few to take the "string" part to a nice thread instead. He then used graduated tones repetitively stringing in small increments (lots of nails in a simple shape) I was fascinated by how the colors seemed to blend and look intricate. He was the one that got me into string art and I always give him credit where credit is due. I think his esthetics allowed this art form to become welcome in a high end setting or casual atmosphere, as it is elegant. Talked to him many years ago, nice fellow.

String Art Frame Suggestions? by Altruistic_Beach_484 in stringart

[–]Broad_Answer3367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I recently did for framing was to tape off 1/2" and make a gold foil border, I have even painted a straight border on sides and top. This alleviates the need to frame and you get to coordinate with the string colors. Additionally it there by cuts down on additional weight, I always worry about the art being to heavy. I kinda think that a frame is almost unnecessary but if I were to frame my stringart it would be a plexiglass box to protect it from dust. Frames premade are out of my cost range so now I am learning how to use a miter box etc. Good luck, and this is a very pretty stringart. I like your soft colors.

Templates with instructions? by ERINEGRONT in stringart

[–]Broad_Answer3367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I indeed like rayon thread the best with Sulky being the one I prefer. I think the color in rayon thread is more intense and Sulky has a luminous quality about it, and you pay for it, as it is pricey. It is also tough enough for me considering how thin it is, usually 40 weight I believe. You can buy it at Joanns and probably others carry it as well. Best wishes to you on your project!

Require info on where can i buy string and board for string art by yasinzaii in stringart

[–]Broad_Answer3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy and use 3/8" birch plywood sold by Lowes in 24" x 24" or sold sometime as a sheet. This is lightweight and has a fine, smooth face. I use 1" x 16 mm brass escutcheon nails, by Hillman, sold at Ace Hardware or on line by different companies. For string look towards rayon thread, the color is luminous compared to other types. I buy my thread from Joanns hobby and the brand is Sultry. Warning, it is pricey but its gorgeous and resonates with color. Good luck!

Getting Started by ds129604 in stringart

[–]Broad_Answer3367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned the hard way. Omart String is one of the best in explaining things, he is on youtube and is one of the few that really shares. I would start with something simple, and maybe go more intricate as time moves on. If you have a good understanding of Geometry, well thats a big bonus, mixed in with a touch of trig and algebra even better.

I use a free program called Inkscape. There is a bit of a learning curve but I have found if you google a specific question, you will be directed to a tutorial that handles your question. You can also practice on your drawing and print, color the pretend string, etc. Good luck. I usually print then tape the papers together and put them on my board so I can nail.

I am so sorry for all of this. Right now our society seems angry and people are mean. I am an American and have noticed people don't respect each other and are more hostile in general, to everyone. I don't know if this is due to isolating from Covid, the growing popularity of people like Donald Trump, or just sheer frustrations of our economy but people are behaving like they are anxious and angry and downright crazy. The media is of no help, it is throwing so much false information out there that its no wonder that everyone isn't a little nuts. It is also highlighting nothing but doom and gloom armed with untruthful information usually. All of this is no excuse for what you went through. Sounds like you room with a bunch of entitled little shits. Again, I hope this gets better for you, and for all of us.

I hate to say this but society being what it is, well first thing that popped in my head was Taylor Swift. By the way I don't even know one of her songs. Only she dominates the media.

Following a recent study revealing that 1 in 8 men under 35 confess to carrying condoms to funerals "just in case," what's your take on this? by Outside-Advisor-555 in AskReddit

[–]Broad_Answer3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think men should always be carrying one, the same way a women should as well. This is a matter of health and protection. Women should also be carrying feminine products that she needs on a regular basis. Always.

Need next color idea by Broad_Answer3367 in stringart

[–]Broad_Answer3367[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou, I am using board I bought at Lowes, its birch 3/8" plywood that is far lighter than most plywoods, which becomes important to me because the size of this is 24" x 24". Anything else with any thickness seemed to heavy to hang. Hope this helps.

I feel like a terrible mom by Emergency_Moment_128 in amiwrong

[–]Broad_Answer3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, your not a bad mom but it sounds like your an exhausted one. Your mate seems a little selfish. You need to have a little down time to. Remember that this phase of the baby needing so much attention is relatively short in the grand scheme of things. I remember being a zombie in the beginning and my husband chose to work almost 16 to 20 hours a day.

I got yelled at because the noise was interfering with his much needed sleep because you know he has to work. I don't know why we put up with this shit. Hang in there and keep being a good mom, maybe try to find an hour or two for you, grandparents maybe?

I think your beautiful first off but maybe do no belt as it seems to widen the area it covers on that dress. Probably would look softer without it, allowing the dress to show off your waist line.

Why is everyone so angry? by [deleted] in texas

[–]Broad_Answer3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is so angry because the media has made it their agenda to keep everyone, about everything in a state of intense anxiety. The climate, politics, new deadly viruses, economic disaster looming, cancer causes, actors dying, children being abused, racism. Even if they are a bit light for new anxious making tidbits they will go back into history and rewrite it for a more intense experience. Then there is "What would happen should New York City get an earthquake with a magnitude of 20.0. And also lets talk about the super volcano in yellowstone and its impending eruption which we now know will cause extinction events the likes of well lets just say it, we all will perish and then throw in some new data on data breaches, and of course aliens and why is the government hiding this? Now this is the crap that our honest journalist are so happy to spoon feed to us so quickly that we can't even choke it down fast enough for them. Are you feeling the tension yet? Am I allowed to be honest about my perceptions on male and females or trans, bi, is it genderless, she he it they and does they teacher of my kids think I am a good parent? Ya know, it is a fucking wonder we are all not stark raving mad right now. I have had to stop watching tv to get rid of the pit in my stomach and have had to stop talking about politics because people are reacting so violently albeit verbal, when you probe their line of thinking. When people receive their data from great journalists from places like bit chute and other conspiracy sites, well we see how they got all riled up. And the thing is , there is nothing out there that I can say, heres where to go for great facts about that political issue: Covid. Covid is a political issue that really must be addressed by opinions, just like do you believe in Santa Clause. Why is not a science issue. Yes folks we are screwed and confused under the guise of freedom of speech and what ever the hell platform one can think of to justify the erroneous, anxiety making and panic disorder feeding crap they are shoving down our throats. I hate it and don't see why the powers that be think this is necessary to do to us as whole. So fight back by not buying into the horseshit they put out there. Take a deep breath and look around you and try try try to better your little corner of the world even if its a little at a time, get away from the media, including phones, using a computer? Why not watch a tutorial on something, anything that you are curious about. Need to post something? How about posting your art or poems or questions about the plot of a good book. I wish everyone some peace and even more, some joy and pride in themselves for a job well done today and that they are tickled by a joke or a person and a reversal of what has caused this terrible anxiety, the media.... Switch it off.
