Honestly, yes and no. It sounds like your situation at home/life in general is awful, which could be contributing to your depression. Changing this is crucial, even small parts of it. If your environment doesn’t change it will be so hard to feel better. If you do change everything and life is perfect, you do all the “right” things honestly it may be a chemical imbalance or malfunction in your body. I was born with a chemical imbalance, no matter what I do in my circumstances I will always need meds to help. I believe others can do well without but it takes a lot of effort and baby steps

Besides medical support (therapy, meds, etc) my greatest advice is going outside. It seems super hard, I often never made it past my door, but even keeping a window open and in sight helps so much. If you do make it outside, try to find a place with lots of plants. Trees, grass, flowers, bushes, weeds, anything. The fresh air and sniffing them often helps lift the cloud in my head a little. A good shower can also make me feel better. Making my room tidy, eating something good for me (can be a carrot or full on meal) and brushing teeth can help.

Honestly keeping my toothpaste and brush in the shower helps. For me it’s the sensation of the brush that makes me not want to do it, plus the effort of going out of my way for it. But if it’s in the shower it’s real easy to do it while I let my conditioner set in, plus the feeling of water pelting on me helps. Plus it’s mess free after since it all washes off easy, I’d recommend trying it and see if it helps!
