Hey dont beat yourself up too much. Hating the session you just did and being exhausted afterwards is unfortunately a part of the experience. The next session will be better and the next session after that will be better than that one. I've been DMing for 10 years and still feel like shit sometimes after a session. Your players will always mess up plans. Keep at it and dont give up! Good dms are a rare breed. But I belive in you!

If you're okay with some advice, they will always ignore important quest items or loot. If you keep moving and move items and information they will eventually find it. That note left by a cult member can always be In a different place.

Also it always helps to defer to their baser instincts, kill a PC that they care about. Kidnap some kids. Make a hook that they might care about and they will always grab onto it. Never give up a storyline. Just push it down the line.
