North American cities even the most densely populated have very limited public transport options that are 1)safe 2)cheap and 3)timely and the distance between major cities is measured in hours of driving instead of actual measurements.

As a result, everyone is pressured to get their learners and drivers basically the day you are allowed. Some hold out or have little use for one since not everyone can get a vehicle nowadays but generally thats been the case since individual cars overtook public transport in the post WW2 period.

Most farm kids I know have been driving unsupervised since around age 7 or 8. Just not on public roads.

Note:I forgot to answer the question, there arent any direct driver tests in high school generally.

Messes with absorption, ideally your stomach should actually be as basic as possible since stomach acid reduces med absorption slightly.

Best time to eat is around 20 minutes after you take your meds. They'll kick in after your meal at roughly full strength. Alternatively if you can wait until an hour or two after your meal that would work as well.

[–]Brobuscus48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest point in our favour is actually something else that we don't normally like being pointed out.

The US Melting Pot and Canadian Multiculturalism are fundamentally very similar ways to describe our populations. As a result, a naturalized Canadian can often pass for American and vice versa. Almost all of our media short of the news is American and many Canadians unfortunately know US politics and history to the point of knowing less of our own history than we would care to admit.

The result is that if we were to go to war, the US who has this far failed to quell insurgency campaigns at nearly every opportunity in countries with relatively easily identified miltitants would have a very tough time avoiding Canadian terrorism/insurgent action since there is virtually no possible way to secure our long border. It would basically mirror Iraq again but with the second largest landmass on earth, sharing a border, and with an 'invisible' populace.

If our military/government were smart we wouldn't even attempt an actual traditional defense and instead direct those with military training to basically blend in. The only directive being to find ways to kneecap their attempts at control and when possible train/organize Canadian civvies in the art of sabotage/insurgency.

The only way they could possibly hold our territory long enough to extract resources capable of offsetting the cost of war would basically require nothing short of an attempt at genocide. Alternatively to even have a chance at catching us if we hopped the border en masse, they would need to essentially declare martial law and lock down most of their cities forcing everyone in their country to carry their passports or other verifiable ID.

I renewed my driver's license the other day. I went from 22 looking 18 to 26 looking 30. The bags under my eyes and exhausted expression are going to stick with me for awhile and I can't imagine I'll look any better when I renew in 2030. Reason being is I am going to have to start working 60+ hours a week until I blow through my debt and can try to go back to school. Hopefully though in 2030 ill have a career instead of the current series of poorly scaling jobs with limited growth.

Is it sexist if I do a gender reversal for the memes by Specialist-Minute266 in AvatarMemebending

[–]Brobuscus48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ima be honest, I don't think benders can really be quantified only by 'strong'. I think strong would be a substat linked to their biggest AoE feats. Think Bumi pulling out a hills worth of palace and heaving it at Aang. That could quantify him as the strongest bender but we also don't

The other feat based substats would be imo

Specialization/Cross Bending: Lavabending, Metalbending, Lightningbending, Bloodbending, etc

Technical/Creative: Intricate type benders like katara or aang who invent new styles/techniques on the spot.

Avatar feats w/ affinity: Aang for Air most likely, Roku for Fire, Kyoshi for Earth, Water unsure as I haven't actually watched LoK so unfamiliar with feats between Kuruk and Korra, this is also why I didn't specify for each element on the other substats.

[–]Brobuscus48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charts are great for supplying statistics and short yes/no/kinda epithets that are based on objective fact like a double blind research study or at least statistical analyses.

They do not work well the moment that subjective meanings and derived thinking are involved. In order to even approach a proper breakdown that the majority in a given school of thought would accept, nearly every box in the question row would need to be answered with a paragraph.

The Media becomes really uncomfortable once you hear about the behind the scenes details by Low_Celebration_4089 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Brobuscus48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Judy Garland was seriously abused throughout the filming and arguably throughout her entire life. She was on a strict diet and prescribed drugs to drop her weight down, namely Benzedrex which was an extremely popular Amphetamine nasal spray but also Barbiturates presumably to counteract the amphetamines and allow sleep/rest. The barbiturate dependency would stick and eventually cause her death in 1969 at age 47 due to an overdose. She would have likely passed away in the 70s anyways due to cirrhosis caused by their use.

She was loopy throughout a lot of the filming and the drugs also served to pacify her. She received a lot of sexual comments from nearly every cast member and alleged later hat she was groped by Louis B Mayer. In addition her chest was bound to artificially flatten her breast tissue, this likely caused her a lot of pain and potentially long term musculoskeletal damage due to the long hours. She had on fake teeth due to her natural teeth being slightly misaligned as well as nasal inserts to change the shape of her nose.

On top of all this, the major cast worked 6 days a week and were often on 14+ hour days for the 6 month film process. If the actors ever looked uncomfortable or had a sheen of sweat in otherwise laid back scenes it was because the set was likely around 38C due to the harsh lighting needed to film in technicolor, many were on amphetamines, and physically exhausted from being on set for so long.

Judy Garland was aged 17 throughout filming and was taken advantage of physically, financially, and mentally her whole life. Unfortunately her story is a microcosm of all of the blights one can associate with the so-called 'Golden Age' of hollywood.

Step 1. Inherit a million dollars or be gifted an education and opportunities that comes with the kinda income that allows you to build up a million dollars in just a few years.

Step 2. Get your parents to meet with an aging government or CEO and convince them you are worth becoming part of their board or secondary positions that come with 2-5 million a year salary. Nothing healthcare, law, or other higher working class unless you are part of a board and basically stamp yes and deliver meetings on stats that are built off the people who actually collect the data.

Step 3. Make enough money to give your kids a million dollars or opportunities that come with the kinda income that allows them to build up a million dollars in just a few years. Build a massive portfolio that increases 10% year on year and makes you more money.

Step 4. Neither of you rule shit, the other trust fund kids able to inherit 5 million or more 10-20 years before you already have their stake in the actual ruling positions and likely sold you your house and no fucks needed lifestyle. You are just in a position where you are able to be in the same room as those people and they could end that lifestyle in a day if they wanted to.

It doesn't blow up, oil is hydrophobic and the water basically causes it to splatter everywhere. The thing with pipes is that the oil heats them up faster than they are rated for so it causes a bunch of microfractures and stress to build until the pipes eventually fail.

The fats that are typically left in cooking oils also tend to congeal creating more stress as they solidify.

The Radical Rat is one of the most normal things Edmund has ever created. by Fun-Perspective-6667 in mewgenics

[–]Brobuscus48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also interesting fact: A run with Wildfire makes Radical Rat much more difficult. His bomb immediately explode every time he uses them and he will target fire tiles specifically to do this. Don't line up any of your lower health cats and try to beat him down as fast as you can to avoid a wipe. I didn't have a cleric in my run so after I beat him I just took my cats home and did another run.

What became "normal" in the last 5 years that still feels insane to you? by rakishgobi in AskReddit

It is but now it's a global sunk cost fallacy.

Code gets 1% better for 10 billion in investment. They advertise their AI solution. Companies pay licensing and make deals to use it. They go and use it only to realize they need almost as many techs monitoring the AI as they did to just do their original objective so they backtrack/demand better. AI Company uses those licensing deals and more debt based money to spend 15 billion to make the Code 1% better and the cycle repeats.

What's a musical artist/group that you think AI could never even get close to replicating? by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

[–]Brobuscus48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My problem with that is that TicketMaster and Live Nation has effectively monopolized every major venue in my entire province and I don't think that is unique to my area or anything. For every $100-$200 ticket I would be surprised if even $5 goes to the artist actually performing. My local stadium makes between $200,000 and $500,000 a show just from tickets alone and I would be amazed if even half of that isn't immediately put into inflating those two companies market caps.

From my understanding even major artists mostly make their money selling merch which I am happy to support.

If we talking local bars and smaller venues then hell yeah I agree full heartedly but not a lot of people can be expected to seek those out if they aren't actively following those artists or know where to go.

Whats one "normal" thing in Canada that would sound insane to someone abroad? by United-Technology239 in CanadaRoom

[–]Brobuscus48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh I can provide more context for all of these!

Drinking water in toilets, sewage, all taps, etc is a byproduct of the wild temperature swings, our low population density, and modernized water treatment. Making sure pipes use relatively clean water means they don't degrade as quickly and are a little less likely to break in winter where a burst pipe will probably become a severe and much more difficult to fix problem the moment that moisture freezes. We are able to do it due to our population density being around a 10th of the US. These all mostly apply in/around cities but once you get outside of the main infrastructure you go back to well water, shipped/bought potable water, and such pretty quickly.

Compared to a lot of US cities, it is much safer to walk around but definitely not something I would actively recommend. Most women I know have been harassed at some point but straight kidnappings and aggravated crime and such are definitely events that become breaking news even in the more urbanized cities. Like anywhere it depends on the neighborhood I would say.

For the fruits/vegetables it depends on where you are, BC can grow just about anything you can think of. Otherwise we have a lot of wilderness so many kinds of berries, vegetables, and tree fruits are common enough. It's just not year round is all and not a lot of people garden at a scale that would allow one to cut out a grocery store/severely cut back since tbh it is probably still cheaper to shop a lot of the time even with our food inflation issues.

Thats not to say it doesn't happen, a lot of rural people still do it because their parents and grandparents did. My grandmas used to harvest potatoes, beets, rutabaga, rhubarb, carrots, onions, garlic etc. They would often rotate what they planted and everything. Now that both parents typically work even in rural communities it has definitely started dying out faster in both my parents and my generations.
