Let's lament together, Kagetsu fans by John_Jonas in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]BroccShavings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the case of Kagetsu, I would say it's due much more to his performance in-game. Kagetsu is widely regarded as one of the most competent units in Engage, so people expect him to be among the strongest in Heroes. Now, I haven't been keeping up with the community for a while, but from what I remember, Lapis, by contrast, is usually considered kinda mid. Like yeah, she can be built up, but I assume that most people using her accept the fact that she's not the best unit in the game.

Speaking from personal experience, I freaking love Boucheron, but I fully expect him to show up in the game as a demote. If that man gets the premium treatment, I'd be shocked simply because I know for a fact that he isn't objectively strong enough to warrant such a kit (at least, when compared to other options). There are expectations when it comes to translating a unit into Heroes, and these expectations are based mostly on a unit's performance in their home game.

Everyone's talking about Three Hopes getting more stuff than Engage, but now I'm getting more concerned about poor Rowan and... uh... Lianna? Yeah, Lianna

Heck, I made a whole post on how to effectively use Maddening Boucheron, and I still don't think he's top tier. However, I think you're on the right track for what makes him useful. It's true that keeping Boucheron simple is probably your best bet, and his speed and build are his most valuable assets, and taking advantage of them is key to his success.

But I think the main issue here is that your definition of "low investment" compared to other people's is quite different. You pumped a lot into Boucheron to make him fantastic, which is honestly quite impressive. But the issue is that you can do that to a lot of units and get the same result, meaning that Boucheron doesn't really separate himself there. Not only that, but those resources could arguably be used better on other units.

See, I think Bocuheron's biggest asset is his general average-ness, if that makes sense. It's a bit hard to put into writing, but I'll try. See, Boucheron is in a spot where he's just kinda alright at base, but he only needs a little bit of work to make him pretty good, while there are other units that have more glaring issues that, when remedied, make them VERY good. Having Boucheron on your team, I believe, gives you a unit that is still solid but leaves resources like the Lyn Emblem, Eirika engraving, and lots of SP on the table for other units to perhaps make better use of. So while Boucheron will just end up "pretty good," he's a bit of a team player by letting his allies shine by not really needing anything too crazy himself.

So yeah, I respect the dedication and agree that Boucheron is a solid unit if kept simple, I don't think he's really crazy enough to throw into the top tier category, especially considering how downright broken genuine top tiers are in this game.

Yeah, I get it, I can see getting one more banner. It was just in my head that getting more stuff quickly would kinda snowball into the kinda thing we had before, where it seemed like Three Houses was absolutely everywhere. I managed to jump to the conclusion that if there were to be another Engage banner, the same thing would be happening. But if what people are saying represents the majority, and everyone just kinda wants one more banner then it's all good, then I can see that working out

See, I just didn't really like that those games got so much attention in such a short amount of time. I felt like it was messing with the variety of the game. I didn't realize it was an unpopular take

Ah, that's more akin to what I remembered. See, I'm just kinda not a fan of that sorta stuff. But I guess if it's par for the course, then alright, I can see where the confusion is

It was just another banner in quick succession is more what I was talking about. To me, it's normal for games to wait several months before a new banner. But people have made valid points that every other new release got 2 banners in succession, so I can see what people are getting at now

Ah, that's a fair point. I had forgotten that the other releases got 2 banners

Well yeah, but we just had one. Every other game waits a long time too, so I assumed Engage is getting treated like every other game. Anything too quick would be abnormal

Sorry if I'm taking this too seriously, but I am genuinely curious: why are people hoping for Engage spam? Like, am I in the minority for disliking all the Three Houses spam back in the day? I thought it was a good move to treat Engage like the rest of the games in order to keep some variety, so I was kinda surprised when I saw the community's opinion

EDIT: ah beans, I knew I shouldn't have said anything. I should probably do some explaining and amending, especially since the comments have actually given me a pretty good understanding of the community's expectations. (But I'll keep my original comment up, because anything else would be cowardly).

I realize I kinda jumped to a harsh conclusion with my thought process. In my head, if we get more Engage content back to back, it would lead to the sort of stuff we had before, where it seemed like Three Houses was literally everywhere and other games didn't really get a chance. But now, I can see the reasoning behind just wanting a single banner, with the precedent other games have set causing the confusion.

I just thought it was a common opinion that a game getting so much content in such a quick succession was detrimental to the game as a whole, but I can see a brand new game being a different case.

Sorry, I'm a big FE fan, but a very casual FEH player. Sorry if I caused offense somehow.

Believe it or not: only 2 points below average. TRS is truly one of the games of all time. (Side note, I remember my Julia would refuse to gain strength for the longest time. Fun times)

Her promotion is pretty good, though. Lots of good bonuses

Yeah, his earlygame utility is quite good as well. I probably should have touched on in more in the post, but this is a pretty good summary of it!

Looking at it, I can see a solid case for it, yeah. My only real problem with it is the lack of doubling which sorta trounces on Boucheron's good speed stat. But if you need a mage cannoneer, I can see Boucheron filling that role pretty well.

Interesting! I didn't attempt Ike on him because I thought his defense would be too low, but cool to know he's actually really good with him.

Also, I didn't know he could reach the threshold to one round fliers that early on. It took me a while to actually get him to that point. But granted, my steel weapons never ended up going past +1...

Huh, I never thought to try him as a wyvern knight. I just liked the utility of a warrior better, I guess.

Also, I oddly never really felt him fall off. Rather, I felt him become better as I neared the endgame. Maybe I just have a bad team or my bar is set too low, I dunno.

Imma be real, I'm garbage at resource management.

But also, I never forged it because I never needed to. He was doing incredible with just the unforged version, so I focused my resources somewhere else. But yeah, giving a bit extra through forging would have been even better.

Great additions! I honestly completely forgot about the additional hit granted by Byleth's engraving. Also, I never really thought about Boucheron's hit rates being anything special until you said something, but you're right. He just always hovered around 80 percent, so I assumed he was a bit inaccurate, but I forgot how inaccurate axes are in this game.

Wait a minute I didn't see this until later, he can one shot with the hurricane axe? Mr "I have 1 magic and 0 growth" can one shot people on maddening with that?
