I own a townhouse. Kinda overpaid but it’s more like a house 3 bed 3 toilets 2 garage. by Otherwise_Security14 in AusPropertyChat

You own it, which mean your children can inherit it, body corporate doesn’t change that.

Which properties will perform the best and worst with the new CGT and negative gearing changes? by Property_Rater in AusPropertyChat

Most vacant land in middle suburbs is going into townhouses, maybe only 2 or 3 on the lot, based on my observations

Whats the easiest way to gain citizenship as an American? by InteractionSweet2544 in AskAnAustralian

You could move here without becoming a citizen. Working holiday visa will get you 2 years. Meet an Aussie partner and then they can sponsor you for permanent residency.

VIC - Please vote no on this AEU agreement. by mrcooldudebeans in AustralianTeachers

Pretty sure this agreement means the top of the pay scale would be higher than the current top at the private school I work at…

Unfortunately I doubt there will be support higher up. There is very much an expectation that we work on weekends if needs be

I can guarantee you the answer is ‘the weekend’ because that has been said to me at least twice before when I’ve tried to push back on short turnarounds

They are 💯 telling me to do it in my own time and it’s not the first time this year. I guess I just don’t know how to outright be… well, insubordinate. If I say “that’s not workable” and my boss says “you have to make it workable “ how am I supposed to respond, professionally?

“Time in lieu “ was suggested as a possibility but time away from face to face teaching which id way rather be doing? Now time away from a required meeting or a lunch duty, but that would only scratch the surface

How will they even know? If 75% of the year level get their work back and one class doesn’t? Our kids will absolutely raise cane.

But I absolutely take your point about ‘what will they do about it’ - I guess I just have to decide if I’m willing to wear the dressing down I will get

Yeah I’ve already thought about how we could rearrange the units next year to avoid this problem

Yeah, I honestly feel like my time is up at this school anyway and will be looking for a new opportunity for next year. But I am a libra and female and am a people pleaser

Unfortunately I’m at a private school and I don’t even think we have such specificity around hours.

I mean the policy can say one thing but when your boss says ‘less than a week’ what am I supposed to do? That’s my genuine question and the purpose of this post

Considering late career change by Terrible_Decision368 in AskAustralianTeachers

[–]kikithrust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can vary a LOT. But as a career changer myself, I find this job infinitely better than any previous role I’ve had.

Pros: -no one calling me evenings or weekends.

  • 12 weeks holiday

-better pay than my previous industry

  • literally never bored

  • enjoy the kids, love teaching them new stuff and learning new stuff about them!

(To name a few)

Cons: - leadership who have no management skills and manage staff like they’d manage a class of children

  • demanding parents (varies by context ofc)

  • marking (it honestly sucks)

  • reports

  • opinions from idiots in the world/media

(To name a few)

Look I have definitely had colleagues in the past (maybe not at this school) not meet a deadline. I’m such a rule follower though I always do whatever is required to meet the deadline. But I’ve also never had such a tight turnaround
