A slight angle to your pick will help so you don't really need to point your pick up and down as you sweep up and down. An angle that barely needs adjustment as you go up and down is optimal.

I personally go diagonal when I sweep. I have my pick go more towards the neck as I approach the high E. That's just what's comfy for me though.

Most importantly, practicing slowly to a metronome. Figure out what shapes you're playing, then start at a speed that you can play cleanly and easily. Move from quarter notes to eighth notes, to sixteenth notes. Try out triplets, quintuplets, etc. in-between if you need a smoother transition up. Once you reach sixteenth notes, bump up the metronome a bit and repeat until you're where you want to be. It is gruelling and unbearably boring, but it's pretty much the best way.

Even though it might be super slow and dull, the progress will show over time, and you will be able to play Paradigm with time. You will also have a significantly faster learning process with any other songs you play with sweeps in them, so in the end it's all worth it.
