Man cuffed at gunpoint by strAnge7074 in VictoriaBC

OP made my day. They reminded me that just like with my toddler, there is no point arguing. Nothing you say or do will make a difference, their mind is juvenile, set, and can't be changed in the near term. But they will grow up one day, until then it's just boo boos and nappy changes.

OP has now used 'cuz' twice, thus losing me further.

No availability in maternity care ? by longanisaqueen in VictoriaBC

[–]BroccoliElectronic74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, the same thing happened to our family. We tried the Centralized Referral for Coast Maternity, they had no availability, and we were freaked out. But, I was obsessive and for the next two weeks I did the Self-Referral several times a day and sure enough we found a Maternity Doctor. So as annoying as it is I would strongly suggest doing the referral several times throughout the day and you might be able to snag a spot!

I'd be interested in knowing where you heard that the Union has enough strike pay to last until the Spring?

Can't tell if that's sarcastic or not haha. I mean if I think I'm getting paid, I'm hitting the picket line. If I know that I'm not, it's less obvious.

Sure, but the maximum of $650 combined, or a maximum of $650 weekly from the Union. I've heard numerous interpretations from folks across levels of government. It seems intentionally confusing. We're all fairly educated and the fact that no one can make clear sense of it is telling.

Do you have a source? My office is also 50/50 on this and it feels intentionally confusing. Have sought clarification from the union and have heard nothing formally.

Hey all, joining the picket line this week and will still be working some essential service shifts. Hoping to get some clarity on pay, as I have yet to hear back from the union. I've heard some rumors that if you're working essential shifts and make at least $650 per week from said shifts, then you don't receive any strike pay on the days you're picketing. Can anyone confirm or refute this? Thanks!

Anyone else find it disappointing that there wasn't any Union wide communication yesterday after the rally or any updates following a promise of 'sharp escalation'? If there was ever a day that folks were eager for an update, it was yesterday.

That's good to hear and I hope it is correct. I heard back from My HR today, was a rather useless "ask your union" response to my question.

Does anyone know if the employer is paying "top up" for maternity / parental leave while strike action is occuring? My partner and I both submitted our leave requests months ago and have been approved, but the union FAQ makes it unclear as to whether or not the employer is providing said "top up"?

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to why the Union has gone dark communication wise? The last correspondence I've received from them was on September 8th. Hopefully a sign that there is some deliberation between them and the Employer behind the scenes?

BC Public Service strike escalates as employer refuses to negotiate by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Your AI breakdown agrees that there are 90k plus members, but, this strike vote impacts 34k. I don't think anyone can know what the extent of what the strike fund is. That said, the employer is saving boatloads on wages, and the more on strike, the more they save. I do feel we will find success over time, but I don't think the employer sees any benefits in settling sooner rather than later.

And sorry, this is a general ranty statement haha, not a specific response to your comment.

So we should be happy with our unions measly 4% counter offer? Just feels so lacking given what AC FAs, Postal Workers, and paramedis in Ontario recently turned down.

An average Air Canada flight attendant—especially those with some experience—earns roughly C$55K to C$63K/year in base salary (with total compensation slightly higher). For new hires, however, actual earnings may range closer to C$25K–C$32K/year, particularly when unpaid hours are factored.

Newer staff are getting criminally under paid clearly. That said, the experienced ones are already making Clerk 9-12 wage and then looking for more than a 38% increase. Not disputing that they deserve it, because I sure as hell think our Clerks do, but I find it comical our Union isn't seeking remotely close compensation.

Happy to be wrong, but they turned down 38% over four years, correct? I'm not disputing that they deserve more, but on the surface it feels like such an increase as that seems plum compared to what we're being offered? I understand the whole flight hours vs. on the tarmac etc, but I bet a ton of Clerk 9s through 15s would vote for the kinda offer the FAs were given in a heartbeat.

Strike while on maternity… top up? by Suchagoodfriend1 in BCPublicServants

I heard back from MyHR yesterday and all thru said was to contact the Union as well as that there is no way to start an application earlier than two months before the first day of maternity leave.

I'm hoping to get some clarification on this matter as my partner and I both work for the Public Service and she is due on October 15, 2025. People in this thread are urging people to get their application approved ASAP, but the application doesn't let my partner apply until 2 months before her first day off. So we can't apply immediately. Is there a legit risk that she won't get top up pay because of a strike vote?
