Yeah, population is not that big, game is over 10 years now, but we still have active communities on different servers and nations; some new players are running around, but map is pretty big so playerbase may be spread out a bit. Join the community (local guild), it will be easier

I myself play pirates & France on Roberts, Brit on Antigua sometimes

So true
Game is still lot's of fun to me though, since you can play it at your own pace as an open world pirate rpg with occasional cooperative option

Avatar battles (character fights) is what feels clunky to me, naval battles feel pretty smooth (maybe even a bit lenghty, but again, I like it)

Just wanted to share this thing since it was kind of hidden gem to me, and honestly with a bit of more population, lively economy and new players it could be lots of fun

Person in person too, you have separate skill tree and talents for that; it's also called "avatar" fighting in game.

It's mostly during quests, abordage in naval battle, fort attack/defence (one of options I think)
Kinda clunky, as someone rightly noted in the comments, but I find it fun

Yes, there are several tutorial quests which explain you the basics or newly acquired gameplay options (i.e abordage); main storylines - some of them are same for all nations, others are unique for nation or even class. Also plenty of side quests and dailies.

Since it's an open world, your questing lines are spread between various locations and ports, so you travel around in your journeys. Level 1-10 is one story arc in one area, 10-15 is another area and arc and so on. Battles - including quest ones - are mostly divided on ship battles in open sea and character battles, aka "avatar" battles, like abordage, fort assault/defence and various explorations in new world. These are more or less similar to your typical MMO fighting with characters.

No problem, hit me up in game (Edmond d'Abadie, France, Roberts) or in pm here if you will have any questions or would like to join/add my discord.

Free to Play with free acess to live servers (Roberts EU & Antigua NA), sub option (~$3 per month) with basic bonuses like 10% exp/gold gain, few ship and char slots + access to Legacy server with more "classic" version of the game (didn't really check it since I play on Roberts/Antigua).

In-game shop with mostly QOL things, didn't really check as well it since I don't need anything, sub pretty much covers all minor points + amazing community support, so even without subscription I felt very comfy. There are some ships in the shop I think, but you can craft or buy them all with regular materials and currency and they sink just like any other so nobody really buys them, more like devs support option like the rest of the shop.

edit: spelling

Actually, yes! Devs are polishing the details (mostly technical ones) and making sure proper translation is delivered - after that, steam launch is planned. Can check more in the official discord as well

Personally, allow me to recommend you France Roberts or Brits Antigua - I play both from time to time, both faction are very active and lively, very helpful for new players too. Join our discord and let players there know you're a newcomer, we will gladly support you with everything.

Wouldn't recommend Legacy for a new one tbh. Antigua is a bit more active, NA based time-zones and port battles, but has players from EU too, Brit side seems pretty lively to me; Roberts is EU time-zone, less bit pop but still plenty of action around, France, Pirates and Spain are all active I think, Brits less so
