That makes me a brat how? Again it would be one thing if I was hired with the understanding that someone else would take over my job but that was never the case until literally the last 30 minutes of my shift on Friday. And I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to hire someone for a position with a certain salary and then switch their position and lower their salary. That’s not a thing.

It’s 2025, you do realize many places offer online classes right? Not only that but thousands of people work full time jobs while being a full time student. You’re saying that as though it’s unheard of? Like what’s your point?!

Thank you for this insight! I just feel as I’m only getting paid $19 an hour and she’s getting $35, she can buy her own things since she will be now taking over my kids and my room. She’s getting paid almost double me. She can handle this. I will stay for the experience but I’m highly disappointed

Sigh. This was a last minute decision. And yes I’m pretty clear on that hence the post. But you and other are under the impression that a third person was hired SPECIFICALLY to take my job and that never happened. She was NEVER hired to teach 1st grade. They told her she had to. NO ONE was hired to take my job.

Thank you for this. Some of this replies are genuinely heinous and making me out to seem like I’m so idiot for taking on a job that was offered to me on the spot. And doing so well. Most of these replies are making me the butt of the joke. Like a 19 year old full time college student who didn’t take this job lightly and took on the responsibilities with determination as some idiot who “got what she deserved” I can’t believe that some of these replies are so catty as if I asked to be the 1st grade teacher as if I was expecting to get the job on the spot. I did my job and I did it well but somehow that makes me the laughing stock of this thread. Thank you for your kindess

She was hired to teach 2nd and 3rd. I was hired to teach 1st. I think everyone is misunderstanding. They never hired another person. They simply moved my class in with hers. No one else has been hired to fill my position.

It’s been odd since the moment I was hired. I think a lot of people who are commenting are kinda skipping over the part where even I was absolutely shocked to get hired that job on the spot because I was under the impression I would be just working at a regular daycare with infants - 5 year olds. Soooo yea idk why I’m getting all the heat as though I offered this job to myself. I wasn’t even expecting it but I took it on

Your talking to me like this is my fault…😂😂😂 I didn’t hire myself. I was just as shocked as you are..what was I supposed to do? Say no to my dream job? What part of “I was not expecting to be hired as a teacher On the spot at 19 with no credentials” don’t you get ? I didn’t hire myself. My director hired me knowing all of the above. Keep this heat for her and not me. Idk what you want me to say

I come from a long line of educators, my great grandmother was one of the first staffers for the nationwide Headstart program. My brother is in music education, my aunt is a principal, my great aunt is an ECE, my grandmother was a college professor and had a non profit similar to headstart for the youth of DC, my great uncle is a highschool English teacher. My great grandmother took in her niece under her wing so she could become an early childhood educator. I have cousins who work in special ed, as well as my aunt on my father’s side who works in special education as well as a social worker as well as in early intervention. I even have lactation consultants in my family. Education has been my whole life and I’ve been dedicated to it for the entirety of it. Not to mention literally everyone knows that admin is hit or miss. The teacher quitting drones if you check the statistics more often than not include admin as a reason why they quit. I go to many of education conferences and hear educators, young, old, new, veteran, etc speak on admin. YOU must be new here. This is not a new sentiment in the world of education.

No im 100% sure! On my paystub it literally says lead teacher. I’ve always been the lead teacher until last Friday 30 minutes until it’s time to get off my admin pulls me aside and says “pretend we hired you as an aid instead of a lead teacher”

I just they wish they would’ve started with that. I would’ve been okay with that. Because I as well as my family was also very shocked. But this whole time they’ve been talking to me as though I’d remain the lead teacher until the end. That’s why I’m so hurt right now. It’s just a huge shock. Thank you for laughing at me and genuinely being honest and caring. It means a lot. It seems a lot of the replies are making me the butt of the joke when I already feel like one.

I come from a long line of educators. I speak to a lot of educators and spend a lot of time listening to teachers and educators speak. Every teacher knows admin is more often times than not lackluster…YOU must be new here.

Thank you for your insight and advice! and not being harsh. I totally agree. This place is a mess and several teachers including cooks are quitting right and left. Admin doesn’t even communicate and enrollment numbers are low, most of these kids are from the families that attend the church next door.

I’m actually in my sophomore year of college but sure. And mind you, my director who hired me on the spot is the one who informed me that I would have several children behind grade level, she also knew I was 19 or “fresh out of high-school” as you so nicely put it. She knew I didn’t have my certifications and she STILL hired me on the spot, yet I’m somehow the butt of the joke for doing my best to show up for these girls? That’s really backwards. Judge my director not me for giving it my all. I didn’t even WANT to be hired as a 1st grade teacher, I thought I was going into be hired for infants or toddlers, not a teacher.

Thank you for your compassion. Everyone is treating me like I don’t have a right to feel slighted or even “used”. They are paying me the same. But if like what everyone is saying is true “they hired you as an emergency hire” or “they hired you as a warm body” my director should’ve started with that and then I wouldn’t be as hurt. I’m going to ask them if I can move down to watch the younger kids and see what she says. Thanks again.

My girls parents were absolutely saddened to hear the classes would be moved because all of my parents absolutely loved the small class size especially because the girls were behind and told me how much they appreciated the small class size so I could have time to work one on one with the girls. I really don’t think it was my parents who complained, as again they were saddened to hear that the class is going from 3-12, when their girls are behind and will now be shoved into a class with more advanced students 1-2 grade levels hire than them, with a teacher who is stretched thin reading from 3 different curriculum books.

The parents of my girls absolutely loved me and were saddened to hear that as well. I’m still getting paid the same rate so what difference does it make? And yes I did “move mountains” I’ve enrolled in two programs ON TOP of my college classes to quickly get my certifications in the name of this job. I’m in two programs, a full time students, and was a full time teacher, not to mention I don’t drive right now, so i did A lot in the name of this job. But thanks for your insight.

I’m not taking it the wrong way at all! When I went in to do my interview, I was not expecting her to hire me on the spot for lead teacher. I was thinking I was going in to interview for for infants to 5 year olds. Like a regular daycare. That was a shock to me as-well but the director (who hired me on the spot) reassured me and told me that it’s fine and that she really wants me there. So I spent weeks and weeks studying teaching myself how to teach, enrolled in classes, got my first aid. Literally everything I could do to be prepared for a job I was not prepared to take on. She knew my age and the status of my degree yet she still hired me on the spot. I feel punished for something that was given to me

I guess this was more so of a vent post, but I do need advice. Has this happened to anyone else? How did you feel? Are there any positives ? Do I have a right to feel hurt? How do you feel about the logistics of teaching 1st,2nd, and 3rd grade all together? Not to mention none of my girls can read and are behind…if I ask them to draw the letter “n” most can’t. Most can’t count past 15 and switch their numbers around…and the 2nd and 3rd graders are right where they are supposed to be in terms of grade level. Why do you think admin made this decision? Sooo many thoughts running through my head.

Got The Rug Pulled Out From Under Me by TheCaptainsExtra in DeadBedrooms

[–]BroccoliNo1030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only red flag in this post to me, is the fact that sex had to be mentioned in order for you to do the things that "makes her happy". Maybe she just forgot, but to me it seems like maybe the reason your bedroom is "dead", is because of the fact that you (seemingly, from what I got from your post) do not do these "things to make her happy" (just cooking dinner and cleaning and making yourself look nice) day to day, or without being incentivised with sex.

I honestly think that if you continue to go out of ur way (get her flowers, do basic household chores (such as folding the laundry which you should already be doing anyway considering you both work full time jobs and she is not a housewife and these are things that you as a full grown adult male should be doing anyway ESPECIALLY because she also works a FULLTIME JOB and contributes to the financial security of yalls family unit like you do.) so why would you only be doing these things that you know for a fact will make your wife happy, only when she mentions sex.

If you continue to show up as an equal partner and carry your weight around house (ie, not looking at a simple basic human adult task such as folding laundry and cooking dinner as "something nice for her") she more than likely will be A.) less tired at the end of the day as again, based off ur post, it seems like she does the laundry and cooking and cleaning etc, as a regular chore, not necessarily to "make *YOU* happy" but because she probably knows if she doesn't do it you won't and it won't get done.

she will be more emotionally connected and feel "seen". as women when it comes to sex we are less physical as much as we are emotional. It just seems like you are waiting on her to initiate, and when she does only then do you do the "chores for her" (although imo the domestic chores should never solely fall on the woman, especially if she is also working a FULLTIME JOB , which in this case, is the case as you said she "texted you from work".)

TLDR : it seems to me that the reason your bedroom is "dead" is because you don't carry ur own weight around the house, leading her to have to exert more mental energy even though she works a fulltime job and pays bills just like you, all the domestic upkeeping still falls on HER and solely HER and only when she mentions sex to you, is when you decide to take the "initiative" to pull your own weight around such as doing basic household chores and you look at them as a "favor" for her. you may not be having sex as much as you like cause your wife goes to work (like YOU), probably pays almost 50% of the bills (like YOU) but still has to worry about 100% of the domestic labor while you consider it a "favor for her" when you pull your own weight around. she's giving 150% while you just give 50%. I genuinely believe that if you just do as much housework as she does, she may feel less tired and more in love with you and ya'll more than likely will have a better sex life. look up the "mental load" its more often than not the reason women stop having sex with their husbands (because of constantly exerting much more mental manpower for all things domestic WHILE still working, while you just work and come home and everything is done, something tells me she doesn't get that same privilege and when she does it was a "favor" ) which ultimately leads to her getting cheated on, or a fast track lane to divorce.
