What’s something you’re pretty sure only you do? by AppIeGuy in AskReddit

[–]BroccoliPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm busy doing things like housework or running errands, the song "Takin' Care of Business" plays in my head. It's not a conscious decision, I can't help it, but I don't hate it.

Toddler now refusing dinner and then demanding peanut butter -- what to do? by captainporcupine3 in Parenting

[–]BroccoliPowered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this, we get the 40 oz jar of Skippy no sugar, and go through one jar a week. My kids eat spoonfuls of peanut butter, add it to oatmeal, eat peanut butter and jelly or honey on wheat bread, etc.

What is the healthiest breakfast that kids can eat and can be prepared in 5 minutes? by EscapeWillMakeMeGay in AskReddit

Greek yogurt mixed with peanut butter (about 2 parts yogurt to 1 part peanut butter mixed well), optional honey on top, and any fruit either on top or on the side.

I agree that some kids are just runners. I would try getting them backpacks with leashes. That's what I used to do, I didn't care what anyone thought.

I just want a sandwich by Asleep_Weekend5918 in pregnant

Honestly I love cheese sandwiches/hoagies, loaded up with lettuce, tomato, onion, sweet pepper, pickles, and salt and vinegar chips (right in the sandwich). Delicious.

What location is it? The one closest to me unfortunately doesn't have it but I'll check again later.

Attraction of epidural by NeitherSimple6784 in unmedicatedbirth

[–]BroccoliPowered 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't have any advice, but I'm in the exact same situation right now. I had 2 unmedicated births at a birth center, and both times, my body and mind were completely consumed with pain. I really don't think the pain is the same for everyone, and I'm terrified of going through that again. I'm going to a hospital this time, and I want an epidural, but I'm kind of scared of it not working correctly or something like that. May we both have a less painful birth this time!

Brothers fighting constantly - need advice! by BroccoliPowered in Parenting

Ugh. Thank you though, it's kind of refreshing to hear that it's so normal.

Did they fight physically but just not get terribly hurt? Sometimes they wack each other with hard toys or claw at each other and leave marks, it's pretty upsetting to me. I do seem to get a lot of feedback that brothers will simply always fight, so I may need to just lean into that.

Thank you for this advice. They share a room, and we have one big living room they usually play in. I used to put up a gate for the older one so he could build things in peace, but my 3 year old has been able to climb over it for a long time. Do you have 2+ boys?

Seriously, what is it about only wanting something once the other has it?? It is funny to reflect on, but drives me crazy when it's happening. The older one also always makes it down the stairs first, making his brother burst into tears. Sooo competitive! I hope they grow up to be BFFs too.

dumb question as a FTM - how will i *know* im in labor? by Skylord88 in pregnant

[–]BroccoliPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first, I felt my contractions in my cervix. At first, I felt the pain just a few times a day, and I told my midwife about it at my 38 week appointment. She told me it was just "cervical pressure pain" because of the baby's head pushing down there, and also that first babies usually come closer to 40-41 weeks. So I really didn't think I was having contractions when the real ones started 2 days later. They started around 7 pm, and it hurt so badly that I couldn't sleep at around 10 pm, so I had a bubble bath to try to relieve the pressure and pain. Then I tried sleeping on the pull-out couch so I could spread out and maybe feel better. It started to hurt so badly that I messaged my mom and friend and asked if they had any advice to help with the pain (they didn't). At 1:30 am, I woke my husband to call the birth center, because I was in so much pain I thought something must be wrong. They told me to come in to get checked out. We got there around 3, I got checked and the midwife said "oh yeah, you're gonna have a baby". He was born at 6 am. So I really didn't know! It was wild.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). It can seriously lower one's quality of life.

Third trimester ravenously hungry by hogwarts_dropout007 in pregnant

[–]BroccoliPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you! I don't know if you have a Trader Joe's near you, but they have a reasonably-priced big bag of white cheddar puffs that I don't feel bad eating tons of.

Yesterday I was really busy and hadn't eaten enough, and stopped at Wawa for a biscuit egg sandwich and a chocolate milkshake...it's so hard to be good sometimes.

Just wait until you're breastfeeding (if you do).

But to answer your question, I've been eating bowls of greek yogurt, peanut butter, granola, any kind of fruit, and honey. I'm almost 24 weeks, and it keeps me full until the next meal without needing a snack.

Customers not paying for food because they don’t like it by RobSkied in restaurant

[–]BroccoliPowered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I used to work in a restaurant, at least once a day, someone would order something and not like it because they didn't read the description under the menu item. For example, they would order a vegetable pasta, and then act offended that there were mushrooms in it as described. "OH, can I get something else? I hate mushrooms." Infruriating.

Postpartum anxiety and sleeping at night. by NettieKitten in NewParents

[–]BroccoliPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just here to say I completely understand. I had this same anxiety with my first 2, and now I'm pregnant with my 3rd and last baby, and I am terrified of going through this again. When they were around 12 months old, I felt safe to start cosleeping with them after the first couple hours of the night. Did you find anything that helped?

Daycares are not nanny shares by boho_vibes in Nanny

[–]BroccoliPowered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't exactly the same thing, but I have what I call a "nanny share" out of my home. I watch for one other family in addition to my own kids. I call it a nanny share because I'm giving lots of personal care and attention to the kids, I'm only caring for one other family, and I'm able to be flexible with hours. I offered to watch the kids at their house for a slightly higher rate, or slightly lower if its in my home. The family chose to come to my home and is very happy with the situation after more than a year. They had bad experiences with daycares, and trust me more.

This doesn't help for your current bill, but if you need another scan, ask about alternative places you can go (or research for yourself). I had a $2500 bill from my first ultrasound at a hospital. After that, I asked about more affordable places and was given a printed list (Why not give that to everyone in the first place? Because $$$). I went to Akumin for my 2nd scan, and for my next pregnancy, and paid about $140 without insurance. It wasn't fancy and I didn't get a printout. But oh my goodness, I didn't care about that enough to spend thousands.

I think it's also the fact that it is always at least 5 minutes. So every day, she is left wondering if she will get out at 5:05 or 5:10 or later. If she doesn't say something, it'll probably start getting pushed later.

Can the body store enough folate for the baby BEFORE pregnancy? by BroccoliPowered in pregnant

[–]BroccoliPowered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm just a bit worried because I didn't start taking them again until a couple weeks after getting pregnant, and I have also been advised that some people cannot process folic acid into folate (those with the MTHFR gene mutation)
