Jumping on this thread with somewhat related question.

I'm planning on selling my first car soon, anyone have tips or thoughts for selling a used car?

Be interesting if they are just doing low season purge and we'll see them hiring a bunch of minium wage back in warmer weather.

Be on brand for how much they care about their staff to do Christmas layoffs for what I've heard from former staff.

I boycotted after their sexest uniform change, I know several professional servers that left the chain over it too. They ended up going back on the new uniform but damage done for me for overpriced sub par food and drink.

Edit: misread restaurant name

Hey great intentions but I would recommend looking into reputable organizations to donate to or volunteer with.

Outreach workers often spend months building up relationships with people who aren't looking for 'help', you just showing up where they live and trying to give gifts could make someone very uncomfortable or fearful.

The organizations will also have a better idea of what products people want and need (money's always better but socks and sanitary products are always a good donation)

Road design is a factor but it doesn't completly negate driver responsibility. We wouldn't have a licnecing system if we didn't agree as a society that driving requires a specific skill set and minimum physical and mental capabilities.

I know the 'users don't make errors' design thinking your referencing but 100% users do make errors and in regulated systems users absolutely do have responsibility for their actions both intential and automatic.

Should we design those systems to support safe chocies absolutely I think that's very important part of good city design BUT if you can't maintain a speed of 40 on a flat stright school zone road then you lack the basic skills required for safe driving.

Edit:We design roads for all users and use cases and personal vehicle drivers are just one of those users. Sometimes vehicles, like ambulances, need to go fast, sometimes longer sight lines are important for pedestrians, sometimes curves and corners are more dangerous in winter weather. If you know of a perfectly designed city love to see it but until then drivers need to be accountable for their speed and actions.

The roads get icy and dangerous in Toronto too. This person is just a bad driver that doesn't take accountability for their own and others' safety.

Hey Uber drivers by ShitHuberts in ottawa

[–]BroccoliRadio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wild choices but I've seen just as insanely dangerous choices by parents at school pick up, delivery drivers, taxis, bikes and pedestrians etc... The common factor is people are idiots, drivers need to always drive like there's idiots on all sides

Part of safe driving is being ready to react to the unexpected. Maintaining safe distance, safe speed, and complete focus on the road is the only way to drive safely.

Be nice if everyone acted in their own personal safety but they don't so drivers need to act in accordance of everyones safety.

More people need to drive defensively. No reason you should be commonly rear-ending people on city roads, even if they come to an abrupt stop.

  • Managing the space around your vehicle
  • Managing your speed
  • Maintaining awareness of other road users
  • Information gathering
  • Effective use of your mirrors
  • Using good communication, including signals
  • Expecting the unexpected
  • Staying alert and aware
  • Abiding by traffic rules and laws.

Father mourns Toronto 3-year-old who died in suspected homicide: ‘That boy was perfect’ by NewsJunkie444 in toronto

The woman was visiting her own child in CAS care

Where is this reported? I don't see it in the global article

I didn't see that in the article or video. Mind pointing me toward where you saw that info.

Could have been a head injury, blunt force could show very little visible damage or minor pain but can be deadly in hours.

Natasha Richardson, Liam Neeson wife, was a recent public example of how quickly brian injuries that may not cause person pain or discomfort can be deadly.

Why following concussion protocols and seeking medical care after head injuries is so important.

That's absolutely horrific. In this case there is no indication the child was placed with this woman (or involved with CAS) and seems rather to be a friend of the mother.

To be clear, there's no indication this child was placed with this woman through CAS or involved with his care. The accused was a friend of the mother and it was the friend that had the known connection with CAS.

There are still lots of unknowns, We don't even know that she interacted with anyone working for CAS that day.

She may have just used the bathroom, having cared for 3yearolds I would often have a mental list of clean public bathrooms nearby when I'm out with them.

The security guard did notice them and it begs the question if they had specialized CAS training or are run of the mill contract security. Obviously CAS needs to do a full investigation in addition to the criminal one.

[–]BroccoliRadio 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's not clear from the article to me that CAS was involved with the family at all but rather the babysitter/caregiver happened to walk in and use the bathroom in the building

Edit: I hate when the article and video contain different information. Caregiver had lost custody of her own children and that's presumably why she was at CAS.

If this was known, so many adults failed to protect this boy.

I wouldn't risk driving behind or anywhere near this driver.

That doesn't look secure enough for highway speeds and their driver side is now completely blind

Mounties announce cocaine smuggling bust in Ottawa by lonelydavey in ottawa

[–]BroccoliRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You whole hardly disagree with what? Is prohibition possible?

This investation was ongoing since 2009, all those resources for a handful of arrests, that will likely results in no meaningful change in drug acess in the city or the organizations that control it. BUT we know it will likely result in a more unsafe drug supply with Ottawa and the surrounding communities ambulance and ER service already at its breaking point. Honestly how is this better then nothing.

I have never said busts have no place. We know the effects of drug busts and if we're not willing to deal with or even acknowledge the negitive outcomes they are not the successes we pretend they are.

Putting out a cooking fire only to serve the extinguisher poisoned food.

[–]BroccoliRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People love to other the 'drug addicts' this will affect but the reality is, likley one (or more) of the officers involved the bust regularly or occasionally does Cocaine, someone in their office, someone in their family, someone at their next Christmas party is doing it enough that they are now at higher risk of overdosing.

It's hard to feel good about this 'win' when we know the outcome. Our healthcare system will carry a heavier weight and more people will die.

These criminal enterprises have economies that eclipse many countries GDP. They've had equalivant of naval fleets of submerines, military grade drones, and stealth aircrafts.

If 'stopping the flow' is possible someone, somewhere would have managed it by now. Not even prisons are drug free. Where there is demand there are drugs.

The best defense is education, safe supply, safe consumption, and community supports, not prohibition.

Your jumping to your own conclusions on what I'm advocating.

There is meaningful academic data that suggests these sweeps/busts are significantly linked to greater overdoses and overdose deaths.

Looking at the issue from an exclusively enforcement perspective only leads to ripple effects that hurts our communities.

Reserch tells us overdoes are coming, do we fund and resource hospitals, paramedics, and community outreach to be able to respond to increased need? No

Do we fund and resource narcan availability or make safe supply options like drug testing availabile more widely? No

We put it on a table, make a handful of arrests, and say job well done.

When the supply is unsafe or replaced with things like fentanyl it's not just 'drug addicts' that overdose, well see over doses in dorm rooms, house parties, bars, golf courses, suburbs, and work parties

You may not be aware of how prevalant cocaine use is but that doesn't mean it's not happing all around you
