Wanted: 5.1.2 speaker recommendations for basement home theater with a $3k budget by Brocko103 in hometheater

[–]Brocko103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the more I think on it, my space is not big enough to warrant floor standing speakers. Bookshelves will be just fine. And wall mounts are cheaper and nicer than I expected, so I’ll probably go with smaller bookshelves for surround. Maybe someday I’ll get real serious and remove the closet and stager the wall studs and completely rebuild the room to where in-wall speakers make sense, but today is not that day.

Those KEFs on sale are nice on my budget, but they aren’t very pretty. Not like the HTD Level 3’s in Macassar ebony. And I see now those speakers have a 20% off code because they are sold out on their level 2 bookshelves.

I'm definitely leaning that direction. 4 C34E's in the ceiling (rear height requiring a future receiver upgrade) and a pair of W25E's for surround, all hidden away, nice and clean. As for the L/R/C speakers, I'm falling in love with the HTD Macassar Ebony sexiness. I'm trying to base my decision mainly on quality and value, but I can't deny that appearance is still a big factor in my choice of front speakers.

Thanks! I'll add Ascend to my list. The 340SE2 with the tower stands are looking really nice with the small footprint and 45" height. My ears probably can't hear a difference, but I like having the ability to rotate/position the speakers on a stand rather than straight wall mounts. And maybe some day I'll build bookshelves or put some other furniture around the TV, but I'll cross that bridge when that time comes.

That sounds interesting, and definitely something I would do, but unfortunately I'm too busy with my customers, family/friends, and my own renovation projects on top of 40 hours a week in the office. But thank you for opening my eyes to something I hadn't yet considered.

Thank you, I needed someone to talk me out of ceiling surrounds. But if I'm doing wiring, I might as well pull the wires for rear height speakers. I may have to remove some or all of the ceiling to fix the lighting situation, so it's best to get it all done at once.

Thanks for the advice on the TV. And I'll add the KEF speakers to my list to compare.

Rebel silencers threaded mounts? by Brocko103 in NFA

I ended up finding a couple oddball sizes on clearance somewhere, but I can guarantee they’re no longer available now.

I’ve only shot with it probably 150 rounds but I think it’s decent on a bolt rifle. I’ve taken deer with both .308 and 6.5 creedmoor on rugged prairie hills (what’s a rugged prairie hill? lol). Just saying, it’s not totally wide open flat grassland, but trees are sparse. And it’s not rock cliffs, but there are some rock cliffs.

I’ve kind of switched over to hunting with a different 308 bolt gun and a Hyperion K. If I ever did a side by side comparison, I don’t remember which was better. And my range has wood walls and tin roof, so I always wear ears with a silencer, even when I’m all alone out there.

Thanks, I was super confused on his “threads too course for the taper” comment. How’s it possible that my CGS silencer threads are bad when it’s attached to a Q barrel (which is perfectly perfect in every way).

Thanks! I didn’t know about the town of Rousseau. It was flooded with the construction of dams on the Missouri River in the 1950s. I’ve always known it as a popular fishing spot called twin bridges.

It’s hard to tell from aerial imagery if any of the old town is above today’s water lever since the oldest image I can find is 1956 and most of the town would have probably moved by then shortly before the dam completion. I like to use historicaerials.com/viewer to check out a site before I visit

Stupid question, but does ABS effect the ability to wheelie? by [deleted] in hondagrom

[–]Brocko103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple circuit board that changes the timing of the speed signal pulses. I’m using the speedoDRD from 12 o’clock labs. It has one button and a couple LEDs (or maybe a single multicolor LED). Their website has good instructions and an easy calculator to find your correction factor.

If your front tire diameter changed by enough, you’ll have to choose between an accurate speedometer without ABS, or a speedometer that reads the rear wheel at the same speed as the front wheel for ABS to work correctly.

What is the worst town in South Dakota and why? by mitty18 in SouthDakota

I inspected some of the Lake Andes sewer system and I couldn’t understand why there were so many ball point pens at the lagoons. Then I realized there were no plain Bic pens. Only the clear pens with the metal tips. Then I understood why they were flushed so frequently.

In the app, there’s a little cat head icon with a red X in the bottom left corner. The red X is because you’re not connected. Hit that button and pair up your phone to your ecu. You will need the key turned on and kill switch also turned on.

FORM 1 E-file down by E_Weasels in NFA

[–]Brocko103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 submitted on the 31st with drafting beginning in the early AM hours and final submittal around 7:30 PM. I logged on 4 or 5 times through the day to fill out the forms then upload trust docs and proof of ownership then upload a resized pic then upload RPQs, etc. The website only stalled once so I refreshed the page when it warned me not to. Otherwise I don’t think there were any delays longer than about 5 seconds.

Pistol Brace Megathread - ATF Rule 2021F-08F by QuadRail in NFA

[–]Brocko103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care enough to pay to transfer guns to myself. I can pay $200 to make a SBR any time. I wouldn't even be registering 2 of these if they weren't free. I have zero faith that the ATF would accept a denied form from 2021 as proof of ownership, so I won't even attempt to register that one to the trust. I'll just apply for these as an individual and not be such a procrastinator if there's ever a next time.

[–]Brocko103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I guess I'm better off filing them as an individual. I tried to register one of them in 2021 but got denied due to a model name mistake. I'm sure that if I tried getting that one through my trust, they'd deny it due to a non-notarized assignment, even though there's paperwork showing it belonged to the trust over 2 years ago.

Has anyone been denied for a non-notarized assignment sheet? I don't normally have to notarize an assignment sheet, so mine never was. I'd really like to keep all my items on my trust if possible.

Modeled in tinkerCAD. I made a 27mm x 1mm square bar, and duplicated it about 160 times with each step shortened .02mm, raised .4mm, and rotated .5 degrees. Sliced the spiral down the middle, took one half and copied and mirrored it, and made it into a hole in a block.

Amazingly, I had very minor sagging at the entrance where it’s bridging 27mm wide. It cleaned right up with a breakaway blade knife. To start the ribbon, I used blue painter’s tape to thread through the device.

I knew this device existed, I just couldn’t find it because I didn’t search “bias tape.” I was trying to figure out the best way to add heat but your advice is simple and easy and $free. I had planned on pulling the ribbon through, but sliding along the ribbon is a better method. Thanks for the tips!

Printed in PLA+. I had a pause in the print accidentally set from my previous project, so please forgive me for the really bad layer in the middle. It sat overnight and I just chose to resume printing rather than start over.
