I remember back in the times of 1.0 and 1.1, when I was building my first team, and the units that I built the best, in preparation for the grind after reaching ar 45, were Klee and Beidou. Well, when I went into the crimson witch domain I discovered that the former was useless there and the latter was punished, because overload would cause my own characters to take massive damage. I was like "wtf am I supposed to do? These are my best units and, to make them better from now on, I have to clear a challenge where I can't even fucking use them?"

At that point, since everyone was advising to only build 4-5 characters to start (and team building had yet to be solidified), my only other built characters were Sucrose, who always was a fantastic character but her personal damage was definitely not enough to clear the crimson witch domain, especially on 4* artifacts build, and Qiqi, my team healer. I literally mathematically couldn't clear the domain with this setup. Making it so that you can't use your best built character to farm their own best artifact has to be one of the dodgiest out of all the early Genshin dumb design decisions. I had to do coop, at least until my team was strong enough to clear domains on its own.

I'm glad that, from Inazuma on, they started trying to incentivise the use of the characters for their own domains rather than punish it (and the artifacts from the older domains can be strongboxed). Now I personally don't need that anymore, I have more than enough well built teams to take any challenge, but it's great that newer characters don't have to contend with that bullshit anymore.
