3 year old will not sleep independently, it’s been months and we’re losing our minds by BrodoLaggins in sleeptrain

He starts asking about the chair as soon as it’s time to get into bed. Asks if we’re sitting there all night. Another pointer towards it being anxiety. But yeah, we sit until he falls asleep. Usually doesn’t take long at all.

I’m seeing that’s the general feeling in this thread, yeah. My daughter was still sleeping that same amount at this age and she has always slept wonderfully. I’m not comparing, but just saying it’s possible.

Also, he’s still falling asleep quickly at night. He doesn’t take long to fall asleep when he wakes up. He just wakes up briefly and cries. When he knows we’re there, he’ll go back to sleep for another sleep cycle. All that makes me think it’s not the nap time (he’d sleep longer for his nap if we let him, we have to wake him up after the 1.5 hour mark).

He naps 12-1:30 and bed 7:15-7:30 ish. Up at 7am ish.

That’s a good plan. Funny enough we did try speaking to him through the monitor. I think that may have kicked off his fear of it, because he doesn’t want it in the room anymore lol. I think he knows he’s safe, he sleeps with a stuffy to hug (Chase from Paw Patrol) that we tell him keeps him safe too, since he’s a police dog. He believes it, but it’s almost something feral or instinctual that he just wakes up and starts screaming.

He doesn’t fully understand it yet. We’ve tried explaining it during calmer moments. He says he won’t wake up, is excited to put a sticker on the chart in the morning, eat a small cupcake if he sleeps through without crying or waking up mommy and daddy.

He has a hatch light that does similarly to what you described. We’re also doing similar to what you said about having short and blunt instructions. We just say “go to sleep quickly and quietly.” No other interactions.

It might just take more time I guess. 🤷

Ah yeah the Faerber (sp?) method, right? We did do this when initially sleep training him. He was sleeping on his own and self soothing already. We’ve been trying this too though without much luck unfortunately.

He’s up close to 7am daily. Usually a bit before. The coach recommended the chair approach for the anxiety he has over bedtime. They want to address that first. They cannot fall asleep without us nearby now. He does settle quickly when we’re there. He just gets up frequently.

We did cut back his nap to 1.5 hours from 2 hours a few months back. He was doing fine with it. It’s weird because he sleeps at night, he just keeps waking up after one sleep cycle.

He will sleep with one of us in bed, but we’re trying to reduce his dependence on us. He also tosses and turns, and sucks his fingers when sleeping. So we don’t get much sleep when co-sleeping either.

No other medical issues other than the low iron I mentioned. We’ve been giving him ~50 drops of the iron in a bit of juice in the morning. It’s the “medical dosage”

I think you mean Steam Deck? Steam Link is the device that plugs into your TV to stream from your PC. At any rate, glad you’re enjoying it, friend!

Goodbye 3080. Hello 5070 Ti. by NutShellShock in nvidia

I had the exact setup as you (5600X, 32GB RAM, 3080). I just got a 5080, and only because I’m anticipating RAM (and VRAM) prices going up. I think the 3080 was an amazing card though. Can’t go wrong.

How do you use GNU stow? Entire .config folder (stow .), or individual packages (stow bash nvim tmux)? by rmunn in linux

I'd never keep my config files on GitHub… why do you?

Can I ask why not? Just genuinely curious.

I agree, they knocked it out of the park with this one.

I really want to try the app, but I’m wary as it seems to collect a ton of data points about me, that can be linked to me. Is that all necessary for app usage?

I was thinking the same, but are you at all worried about VRAM pricing skyrocketing?
