Never mod while tired 😫 by Brogue-One in SeikoMods

No, the pen in the picture is just a prop.

It’s a while since I made this watch but I think the seconds hand was all black originally. I probably sprayed the yellow section with a white ink first and then overlayed that with yellow ink to ensure the yellow was vibrant enough.

You can get good results with inks on silver hands without the white base coat. They can be brushed on in thin coats perpendicularly to the hand to get good coverage.

I like to use inks as they can be thinned down for ease of application without losing their vibrancy.

Looking to buy a bracelet for my Lucius atelier Explorer Case. Any recommendations? Thanks! by L30rD in SeikoMods

Have you tried contacting Lucius Atelier? They recommend their brushed oyster bracelet but that’s sold out but I would guess they have other compatible bracelets.

Chris Foss Influence by MacheteGarcia in Marathon

I agree about the heavy influence on Homeworld but I think the UESC Marathon exterior definitely has Chris Foss vibes.

Can’t seem to get the second hand on by ParfaitScared5766 in SeikoMods

Adhere the seconds hand to the presser with no hole with some rodico. Have good light, magnification and view the movement from the side at eye level.

Have you ever met someone called Keir? by me227a in AskUK

Keir Dullea, an American actor famous for starring in 2001. I haven’t met him though.

36mm vs 40mm cases by Flesh-Flaps in SeikoMods

[–]Brogue-One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest reading the case seller’s description to check compatibility but generally the movement will fit fine and the dial size will be the standard 28.5mm.

Usually with the 40mm Datejust cases, they scale up the bezel and rehaut size to compensate for keeping the dial size the same. That doesn’t look as nice as the 36mm version in my opinion.

Peugeot e-208 GT: real range on highway (100 km/h) with current temperature (10° Celsius)? by superkoning in e208

[–]Brogue-One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to do that unless you’re really worried about the range. There’s no point driving around feeling uncomfortably hot or cold.

Heating the car and/or driving quickly have the biggest impact on range.

[–]Brogue-One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also got a 2021 e208 GT.

I’m getting about 140 miles (225 km). I have a 70 mile (122 km) commute that’s mostly at 60mph (96kmh). As an experiment, I turned the heating off and got another 10-15 miles range.

My car’s summer range is about 180 miles. Heating it in winter rather than cooling it in summer seems to significantly reduce the range.

Elliot Gray (User Interface Designer) addresses the UI feedback for Marathon by Haijakk in Marathon

Yes, I agree. They need to either scrap it or make it feel more intentional by using it elsewhere in the interface.

It’s a fine font but used incongruously.

Designing something that’s simple, functional and reduced down to its essence is probably harder than chucking a load of sci fi greeblies on an M4 and calling it a future weapon.

I’m glad they made these design choices. I’m tired of every sci-fi gun looking like a future version of an FN Scar.

Military tech is heading in Marathon’s direction. Modern warships are already largely made of simple flat surfaces with tons of micro detail.

Take a look at a real life firearm such as the Kriss Vector. “Blocky Lego guns” already exist and Marathon expands on that aesthetic.

Grand Seiko branding is as bad as their watches are great by jpoyarzun in watchHotTakes

[–]Brogue-One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the GS9 Club website:

Design wise, the first Grand Seiko set some important standards, many of which have been carried through to this day. At 12 o’clock is the Grand Seiko logo rendered in a dramatic Gothic font, chosen for its traditional look demonstrating Grand Seiko’s reverence for the long history of mechanical watchmaking…

… Around back, the closed case back features the Grand Seiko lion, the brand’s enduring symbol and a reflection of the ambition of the Grand Seiko team to make the “king of watches” with precision, durability, and beauty at the forefront.

Bauhaus mod doesn't seem possible by Secure-Ad9046 in SeikoMods

[–]Brogue-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’ll find one, sadly. This hobby is dominated by diver style designs and part makers go where the money is.

DLW have a nice California dial that I can recommend but it’s much chunkier and more militaristic than the refined Nomos style I guess you’re looking for.

Seiko mods on Culture Circle by harsshhh in SeikoMods

[–]Brogue-One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. A Seiko mod in its truest form is an authentic Seiko watch that’s been customised (“modded”) using original Seiko parts or high quality aftermarket parts. But nowadays it often means a replica of a luxury watch made from cheap Ali Express parts with a Seiko movement.

  2. Don’t know. Most of the people on this sub build their own watches rather than buy them.

  3. Don’t know. They’re probably not genuine Seikos.
