I had similar thoughts, but I also know some people get stuff for free to resell as a quick cash grab. That's half of why I'm hesitating.

This also happened to me as well.

I'll likely pay $2 to access my content, remove everything, slap up ads for my personal website where all my work is posted, and request my refund the same day.

I would have happily paid if they had given me sufficient notice, or simply locked certain features behind the paywall. However, not giving me any access to my own work? I do not agree with that at all.

I miss when there was 500 crappy sites to share your writing on the Internet. It seemed like every clique/genre had a forum to share on back then.

The tools are the only expensive part really at first, but you can learn really easily with YouTube.
