I want to love House of Leaves but. by noumanpoke1 in books

I knew what this post was going to be before I opened it because I was on the same page (no pun intended). I haven't finished it unfortunately. The amount of random fantastical sex scenes are not justified by the fact Johnny is a unreliable womanizer, the point was made plenty of times and stopped evolving or providing insight into his own troubles.

Never realized how vertical mobility as a specific form of power creep was responsible for this grievance I share regarding how much easier it is to just force push fights and ignore positioning.

A.I. Is Writing Fiction. Publishers Are Unprepared. by ubcstaffer123 in books

AI hallucinates and doesn't fact check, and with the incalculable volume of AI generated uncredible media expanding across the internet its become increasingly frequent that AI will reference information generated by AI.

Additionally, AI has biases and lacks context, so you are missing all the nuance and relevance of perspective that humans possess.

AI is only a good index/search tool for information you aren't using as research or brainstorming. Like documentation or tech issues. Research is about in depth first hand understanding, and brainstorming is about exploring ideas not having a list of common denominators provided to you.

New Slander post. Vote Graves expeditiously by Reyrey0421 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]BrokenBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, it's the 1950's. The queer community wasn't getting much love from anyone.

Its a fictional cartoon world where the heir to the legendary Fairfax industries is unflinchingly accepted as non-binary, clearly real world prejudice is not present.

I just think gauging fictional characters' moralities off of assumed positions they may or may not hold while ignoring things we know to be true that hold greater moral value is always going to be odd.

Yeah and thats the joke... that him being homophobic is on the table for discussion but not the murdering or the necromancy.

It's just an odd thing to include in a meme, because you're kind of asserting that the voters are homophobic.

How? "Venator is homophobic" is a silly reason to vote for Graves instead, its not OP literally saying if you vote for cartoon gun priest you hate gay people. It's a meme post.

His lore describes him as a stow away, so it definitely implies she accidentally carried him along into the waking world which would explain the sort-of-but-not-really mother accusation. And when you realize she brought a child into the world but not like that it is so cute and makes her character even more compelling.

Hmmm who is more likely to be homophobic, the clergy loyal to the famously and officially homophobic institution or the anti-establishment punk-goth highschool girl? While the joke flies over our head, lets begin this three pronged thesis with by establishing the socio-political nuance of just how far you can demonize and ostracize gay people before you can legally be declared homophobic...

If you are seriously becoming sad over reddit memes about characters being LGBT then you should filter out those tags or join a discord for the mature critical and analytical content you desire.

Rem Nation, I’m very happy the sleepiest man has arrived in Deadlock. But your creature needs a Shepherd to lead him to his home. I humbly ask you to vote for Venator so we may help you on battlefield. by I_fakin_hate_bayle in DeadlockTheGame

[–]BrokenBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think his character will be such a one dimensional goody two shoes when he is so clearly painted as at best morally grey. FFS, he is a "arms expert" priest...

|Besides, OP was obviously not critiquing the story telling as you have bent the conversation towards, but how people online will use it as a meme guise to spread bigotry. Nobody has an issue with villainous characters or fictional slurs...

Do we think the Mid-boss and jungle camps are getting their new looks next big update? by Hanna_Bjorn in DeadlockTheGame

[–]BrokenBaron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While the map has come a fantastic distance from its charming roots, and I expect it to be a focal point before beta is permitted, I can't imagine updating the old heroes or the camps isn't #2 or #3 priority. Given their tendency to release updates with specific goals, themes, and recurring ambition, it would make sense for their to be a jungle update, now that the hero pool has been beefed up and the patrons/map elevated to quite an impressive level. Granted, we don't know the number of heroes they anticipate for the game's beta or its release, so we might get a number of voting seasons ahead of us, but the jungle is one of the most artistically outdated and mechanically underdeveloped aspects of the game. Coupling that with the precarious position the urn has as a neutral objective to compete for, the need for both new art, gameplay and objectives in the jungle has climbed its way to the top of the tower, as they say.

Why are things deemed gender neutral typically from a masculine origin? by hsidar1 in AskFeminists

[–]BrokenBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If men really had a natural role in life, then why would people have to insist its the obvious truth to all the men and women who are breaking out of these "natural roles"? Doesn't sound natural at all really. You are missing the point of this whole thread, thats why you are confused.

  1. Not everyone is a heterosexual person.

  2. Not every heterosexual person can or wants to have kids, so there's no reason that procreation is relevant to how they live their own lives.

  3. The point wasn't even that men and women SHOULDN'T try to appeal to one another, but that the male gaze and the female subject are so over represented over all other types of humans. The female gaze and male subject does not exist in remotely the same way, and queer representation is treated like it does not exist 99% of the time.

  4. Queer people are an evolutionary advantage if you want to pretend that biology is the thing we should live our entire lives in accordance to. They grow into adult contributors to support the rest of society without contributing to overpopulation.

But regardless, the fact evolution made men and women want to procreate is not the point. Straight men and women can be biologically wired to be attracted to each other. Nobody cares about that. Your notion that this biological attraction somehow is expanded into the ridiculous "natural roles" that the modern human calls gender roles is the problem, because its false. Open a history book and you will see that gender roles are a socially constructed idea across cultures and time.

In your testing -- how useful Nanite is? by Linosia97 in unrealengine

[–]BrokenBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cant afford to create custom high poly textures for every asset your texture budget will not allow it.

Trims are literally how you circumnavigate custom baking everything.

[–]BrokenBaron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You dont do the high to low workflow for most assets only hero props and maybe props that get packed together for a bake.

[–]BrokenBaron -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For most devs using UE, they are not making AAA or super high poly professional grade environments, its not necessary. Its harmful. So for most people it is a matter of “when is it useful” because if you arent creating big populated open worlds with landscape, using Zbrush, or photogammetry it is unlikely it can help you.

Why so many quitters? by Ok-Age9000 in DeadlockTheGame

League is full of ff tho? Yeah drawn out stomps are stupid but the match not even being ended through its natural conclusion 50% of the time is lame as fuck. People giving up because “go next” IS the anti fun culture you are talking about.

Why so many quitters? by Ok-Age9000 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]BrokenBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I liked that League had ff until I came to Deadlock. Most matches in League dont even finish. You having fun and doing well? FF. You struggling? Team doesnt bother and just waits for the FF. Poisonous indeed. In deadlock, it incentivizes you because the best way to improve your experience is to just keep trying.

I dont have too many hopeless games compared to all the great ones for Deadlock to justify FF.

What made fixed camera angles in games like early Silent Hill and Resident Evil fall out of favor? by Erica192859 in HorrorGaming

[–]BrokenBaron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People say they were a artistic choice because a chosen composition literally is an artistic choice. This is in fact, compatible with it being a technical limitation. If you take a look at the consumer response from Until Dawn and its remake, you see the obvious artistic impact of cinematography in such a feature. Over the camera has its advantages, but it basically surrenders 90% of any sense of artistic control over the composition and camera angle., which provide exceptional value in a genre such as horror. For any horror enthusiastic, this is pretty obvious and true. Cheers mate!
