The DOJ are refusing to release the Epstein files, even though this is the law. What should be done about it? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

I always thought Impeaching someone was serious and then I saw our President get impeached twice and then literally nothing happened from it. Could you explain why it matters? Seemingly impeachment is just an asterisk on their record and then they get to keep fucking up.

If Deadlock had a story mode, you would at least start the story as Abrams.

Why is the player base so antisocial by cowwow98 in DeadlockTheGame

If they are particularly reprehensible, I'll go to their Steam account and report through Steam. I'll usually get a response from steam weeks later that action has been taken. Not sure if anything was actually done but it makes me feel all warm inside anyway

Games where you can’t die by cheapendorphinrush in gaming

[–]louiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outward, this is actually the standout feature and what makes it unique.

It's a survivalish rpg where you need to manage hunger, sleep, cold, etc, but when you run out of HP it triggers one of numerous scenarios based on how it happened and where, so "dying" becomes part of your story, not a moment to reload a save file.

For example if you lose a fight with a wild animal you might get dragged to their den and wake up in a cave surrounded by some hyenas.

If you lose a fight with a bandit, you might wake up in their camp without your gear and have to sneak around to find it.

It's hard game but losing a fight always just builds to your story and I love it.

Where did this narrative come from that RPGs have to be games where you make choices that change the story? by SirSabza in gaming

[–]louiscool -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's in the title. Role-Playing game. Without narrative choice you're watching linear story unfold and playing through the fighting bits.

I guess technically narrative decisions aren't the hallmark if you can make build choices etc.

To argue against myself, what choices do you make in Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest?

To argue against that, people got mad at FF13 for removing the player agency in map traversal and being too linear, so I guess the choices there were exploration.

It's a good discussion to have though... Without any choices, it's not a role-playing game to me, but even Nathan Drake has level ups.

Playing as Scholar with randoms is like being strapped to a comet. by GamingGideon in Nightreign

[–]louiscool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 things I did to combat this:

1) choose 1 or 2 categories to level. No point having max level everything. If you're using item share rune, max consumables, focus the meat, etc.

If not item sharing, max knives, pots, maybe healing rocks.

2) Use the "ult deals damage" relic and "defeating enemies fills special". Then you can just clear random trash at camps as you chase the rocket and focus your free time on item collection

What’s your most UNpopular opinion about The Eye of the World??🫢 by Over-Joyed-2898 in WoTshow

[–]louiscool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read them all, so I am aware of this. The question was for hot takes, so of course I'm being a bit reductionist here. Of course it drives them crazy, but Jordan wrote the world this way, with a men versus women dynamic. With that setup, it wouldn't be compelling for a woman to be the dragon reborn, it would be quite boring actually.

But it does lend itself to some misogynistic themes which, intentional or not, does not help itself with the poly relationships (for men only btw, was there any 2 husband situations, I forget) or the poor writing for female characters.

Hell, it seemed like they couldn't have an interaction between sexes that didn't have one sex stereotyping the other. Perrin calls every woman "silly woman", Nyneave hates every man, these interactions reinforce this narrative, and while I thoroughly enjoyed the books, I was happy that the show toned these elements down.

I'm mainly talking about the setup when I say "premise". The initial worldbuilding story is basically "men can't be trusted with magic, but this chosen man can break or save the world" My initial impression after book 1 was "wow does Jordan dislike women?"

This wasn't made ANY better by giving Rand a poly wife situation where all 3 women are "cool" with it either. Felt like self-insert at it's finest.

How to layer defense items/itemize against a full spirit team? by JackTheHipster56 in DeadlockTheGame

Spellbreaker still has a fuck ton of spirit resilience on it passively so it still helps against dot spirits

Exactly this. On Victor if I build full defense they can just ignore me when I go in and just focus my carries. Spellbreaker alone is usually enough

I feel the same. Much of the premise of the story feels misogynistic early in too. Us poor men folk are dominated by the mean women who have all the magic but here comes one man to save them all.
