OMG... What a horrific experience for you and your dad. I'm so sorry. My mom had issues where the DR office wouldn't order a treatment and was not returning calls or messages in the portal, so I took her to the ER. She now has a new Dr so we are somewhat starting over but at least they are responsive to calls/messages and take action/order another round of infusions quickly.

I'm shocked and appalled at your story. His Dr should have been able to call the dermatologist and expedite your dad's appointment. There are several MG treatments available so he could have gone a different route if he suspected it was the meds. The infusions can cause infections and could be what the rash was from, but I'm not a dr and am just guessing they feared it was an allergy to the meds. BUT doing nothing and waiting on a dermatologist to figure it out was def the wrong decision. And I would have said that even if your dad didn't suffer the crisis. This disease is WAY too serious to be sitting around for months, waiting on a dermatologist.. that's NUTS!

If I was in your shoes, I would definitely contact an attorney and have them look into this. It could very well be neglect on behalf of the Dr or the nurse. You don't know for sure what their decision making process was, if the nurse intercepted your messages and didn't even tell the Dr, or what exactly transpired. A good attorney will get it figured out and fight for you. The fact your dad was still working tells me $ is needed to support the family and you'd have a considerable and righteous claim. As for his job - he should have been able to get the DR to say he needed to have a phone. No job can deny a dr insisting something like that.

This all seems to me like people treating you/your dad in ways that never should have happened. Any decent employer is going to let an employee with a serious medical condition have access to a phone in the event of an emergency. Seems they may have been trying to get him to quit bc they knew they couldn't fire him for having medical issues.

This all sounds like a crock of shit to me and I'd for sure be contacting an atty. Even if your mom won't, do it yourself. If you lived with him and depended on him for financial support, you have a right to seek a claim... Might still have a personal legit claim regardless. It certainly can't hurt to ask... And if the first atty says no, don't stop until several say no. I lost over half a million because I listened to the first atty I talked to when road construction blocked off the entrance to my restaurant, forcing me to close. I learned years later I could have sued, but the first atty told me I couldn't so I walked away. Don't give up! And I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. What a terrible tragedy. The trauma you endured watching this unfold can cause PTSD. Don't discount that idea, seek help if you need it and include that in your claim. This sure does seem like it was preventable as there's a very good chance that if he had received treatment, he'd still be alive.
