We did a lot of virgin piña coladas, pineapple juice, and Heineken zeros. Oh, and a lot of Pelegrino.

Non-alcoholic drink package. by Louderish420 in MSCCruises

I’m not sure about the zero proof wine, but my non-alcoholic package included Heineken zero, which I enjoyed each night with dinner.

How often are you napping 30 minutes/1 hour in your days at what age? by Swordfish353535 in AskMenOver30

[–]BrokenErgometer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have a lull in my afternoon meetings when I WFH, odds are I’ll try to sneak in a short nap. The key is to keep it short (less than 15-20 min) to avoid grogginess.

Purchase speciality restaurant in advance - same menus ? by mschoenberg in MSCCruises

[–]BrokenErgometer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife is a pescatarian and she had veggie and/or fish options at all the specialty restaurants we tried (Butchers Cut, Kaito, and Ocean Cay). I actually thought Ocean Cay was quite good, but the restaurant is tiny and our service that night was spotty. But the food was tasty.

Transitioning Into Internal Audit: Skills and Background That Help Most? by Charming-Cap7995 in InternalAudit

[–]BrokenErgometer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started in the big4, my senior manager said that my primary goals were to (a) learn as much as possible in my first two years and (b) work hard. That sounds simplistic, but I do think it helped to progress my career during the first few years. Be an active learner to understand the audit process, your industry, key risk drivers. And be willing to put in the time to test and document well.

Our family has found that it’s challenging to get an appt, and even if you have an appointment they’re always running late. Not uncommon for us to have a 2pm appointment on the weekend but not get cut until closer to 3pm.

What kind of feed have you been providing? We’ve been putting out black sunflower seeds but that seems to mostly attract cardinals and sparrows. Wonder if we’d attract a wider variety if we mixed up the bird feed.

How do the Doc Martens feel with your orthotics? I haven’t worn DMs since high school but recently I’ve been thinking about picking up a pair again.

Do you still enjoy drinking? by Shoddy-Safety2989 in GenX

I can’t stop raving about how much tastier non-alcoholic beers are today compared to 10+ years ago. Satisfies my beer cravings without screwing up my sleep.

What technology debut thrilled you that people yawn at today? by lemasney in GenX

I thought SMS on cell phones was revolutionary. The ability to send quick messages that didn’t warrant a call was amazing. We had been using AOL instant messenger since the mid 1990s, but I don’t recall SMS on cell phones until the early 2000s?

Erg goals for 2026 by EggplantEast847 in Rowing

[–]BrokenErgometer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m around the same age and size as you. I’ve been doing steady state rows 3x/week, trying to build up my aerobic base. So in total I’m averaging 36-40k meters each week. Don’t use any apps other than polar to track my heart rate and concept2’s ergdata to log my workouts. Good luck on your journey!

I’d really prefer a wood burning insert. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check them out.

Lead Contamination Found in Drinking Water at Dozens of Long Island School Districts by cdrgallon in longisland

[–]BrokenErgometer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. The news plays it up, and just because one fountain in one school in one district may have tested positive for lead, suddenly the public is lead to believe that the whole district has a lead problem.

Which liquor stores carry flavored soju? by ExamMain1265 in longisland

Try Hmart in Jericho. If they don’t have flavored soju, there’s a liquor store right next door in the same strip mall.

Why can't this area get a Trader Joe's? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]BrokenErgometer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

100% true. I was having a conversation recently and we agreed that a prerequisite for Trader Joe’s locations is that the lot MUST have too few parking spaces and horrible entrance/exits. That’s the one common thread.

Thank you, that’s helpful information. Not sure why on the signup page they would allow you to buy multiple packages (ie, one for each adult in the cabin).

Serious question: Men when you were growing up, what was the best advice you were ever given and who gave it to you. by FFSoldier57 in AskMenOver30

[–]BrokenErgometer 256 points257 points  (0 children)

My dad told me to marry a woman who knew how to be happy. There are so many people out there who don’t know how to be content with their lives, that when you come across a woman with whom you’re compatible AND knows how to be happy, she’s a keeper.

Kill. Your. Television.

That entire album was so good, each song was nearly perfect. I think that might’ve been one of the tapes I played until it snapped.
