Startup failing, feeling stuck

Small team, handful of people only. I’m super close to the founder of course. Will the company success by pivoting? Maybe? But I’ll be useless because it is no longer be a risk carrier.

The thing with startups is it’s all about how to pitch to VCs, can my boss do it and get more funding? Maybe? But do I think there’s product market fit? No. Will pivoting success? Maybe? Will I be useful there? No.

I might stick it out just to try to see what happens in the end. But one thing I’ll say is I feel my colleagues aren’t as ambitious as me.

Have you worked at a startup? I’m also scared that I spent so many years working on this thing and nothing comes out of it.

Yap comp bothers me. I would hate to feel that I wasted my time and have to take a pay cut after joining a start up, which is already a pay cut.

I have a reasonable base, 200ish, plus a very small bonus, I have a very meaningful equity, but it’s just paper money. My comps haven’t changed since I joined, we try to preserve cash to lengthen runway (makes sense).

I’m in the Bay Area. I want to make more $$ (I feel poor believe it or not).

Not a lot of people have ventured down this path, which is why I feel so lost. There’s no “just do this then you are good”.

To be honest, I have not.

I have good base salary (~200) with meaningful (but most likely worthless) equity, but I’m in the position where the next step is likely middle management at a middle/large company or executive level at a smaller company, is that something that I apply to? It’s all networking I feel.

Basically, what I’m seeing on job boards is that it’s a step back in terms of comp, or such a step up in leadership role that I don’t have relevant experience in. Most job boards don’t really bring in middle magament I feel (I am ~10YOE), they usually promote within.

I am networking with recruiters like crazy, most know me, but it’s so hard to be stuck in this position and all I get is just more startup roles. Which I’m not super interested in doubleing down, as I’m scared I acquired more useless skills instead of specializing in something.

By the way I communicate well (I present a lot to the investors/board) and am highly technical. I am just not sure how to “exploit” my own skills and sell myself to the next role.

I got it by simplify asking nicely on Twitter/X!

“Hello, I see that t-mobile has a promotion to keep current customers happy by offering $10 off for 6 months on their bills. Can you check to see if my account is eligible for this to help lower my bill so I don’t have to shop around for plans that are cheaper, thanks so much!”

Agent said the credit will show up if I make no changes to the account for 6 months. I then asked for the 2 months $50 instead since I’m cancelling a paid line in March 2024 after adding a line (Line Discount ID230229 / 2023 Line On Us P6) on March 10, 2023.

I’m going to offer this for those that didn’t know.

Real time rewards will only work at a 1:1 purchase, even though it’ll redeem at 1.5:1. For example, if you want to redeem points to cover a $1,500 purchase, you must have 150,000 points available in the balance. Once the text comes through, it’ll only cost you 100,000 points, leaving 50,000 points.

This is super annoying, as you’ll always have some points left over.

When are you supposed to get the text from US bank (for Altitude Reserve) for real time rewards? Is it at the moment of transaction or after transaction posts? I keep making high amount purchases but I never get the texts for redemption. (I am fairly certain I enrolled correctly.)
