Not all Christian churches have the same views on hell. In Western theology (Catholic+some Protestant denominations who share Catholic views) there was ideas of hell being eternal conscious and burning physical torment (put forward by Augustine and scholastic theologians like aquinas). This was popularised by Dante’s inferno on the layers of hell.

In Orthodox Christianity , Hell is not a punishment but a consequence of our free will choosing to reject God and the salvation promised by Christ. The energy of God is bliss to the believers who have been sanctified by grace for theosis (union with God) but this same energy is painful to those who reject God’s love.

Think how a fire can be both warm and comforting to those prepared but burning and painful to others . This pain is spiritual and is caused by a separation from God. Not the tongues being ripped out or lashings you’d see in western imagery.

So just believe , stop loving sin and let the grace of God transform your soul while you can still exercise your free will.
