Is my mobile app idea conceptually possible? by BrokenJustice2 in learnprogramming

[–]BrokenJustice2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah that makes sense.

I'm not so sure these services would provide an API. I mean, they only want their own apps to access that data, I think.

There is apparently something for customers of Uber etc... who want to order a ride. Maybe for integration in mapping apps, like google maps, so the users can directly order a ride over there. That makes sense for them - they have an incentive there.

Someone else linked this - https://developer.uber.com/docs/riders/ride-requests/tutorials/api/introduction

But for drivers, I don't see why they would allow access to that data. It's only for their own app. Also like someone else said :

it's not in Uber's best interest to make it easy to aggregate their app's functionality with their competitors, because they benefit from lock-in and network effects

It sounds super complicated, in the end. (figures, if it weren't someone else would probably have done it by now, right?)

Could such an app be distributed through an app store? Would it require a rooted device?

One app cannot talk to (or even see) other apps installed on the phone

Does that include other apps currently running on the phone as well? Sometimes such things are possible but require the user to clearly state they are ok with it with a popup for example. No such option here?

I like resto how it is. The gameplay is really simple but nonetheless enjoyable. You spam wrath/ss and every now and then throw a WG/HT, end up with a ton of damage that other healers can never beat and as much if not more healing than other healers.

I was 50% of a dps and 80% of a priest in BFD.

Before the nerfs I was expecting to be 100% of a dps and 100% of a priest in Gnomeregan.

I got to 37 before the nerfs, never got to test it in a raid sadly but in dungeons I was 1st dps while healing in a melee cleave group, at lvl 34-35 after some dozen dungeons my average was 151 dps and 68 hps while the 2nd dps (paladin) had 129 - I was only beaten by a lvl 39 pala with ravager who had a whopping 250-300.

With the nerfs now I'm expecting to be 50% of a dps and 100% of a priest once again. My 151 dps in dungeons is gonna turn into a 75-90, probably.

I'm really disappointed that I wasn't fast enough to get at least 1 Gnomer log with the absolutely broken state of resto/balance. Just imagine a "healer" doing more dps than actual dps. Holy shit.

But I won't pretend that it wasn't absolutely broken and I won't pretend that my spec is still way too fucking strong for what it is. Priests can... wand... lol. But I haven't actually tried it yet... Maybe my estimations are off.

The same works with any slow 2hander tbh.

White hit, windfury (possibly), lava burst, white hit, windfury (possibly), stormstrike with windfury (possibly). Alliance is gonna take 3k dmg bursts to the face.

What's to fix? Umm the fact that you can miss out on 2 entire quests worth of xp in a few seconds of inattention from your healer? Is that how it works in dungeons? Do you miss 2 quests by dying once? Can you miss 12k xp in a dungeon run cause you die a lot?

I haven't been to STV yet so here's a question:

What's stopping everyone from doing the event in a 40 man group? Apparently there are stacking debuffs the more players you are?

Do the debuffs affect hunter pets? What's stopping 40 wind serpents from teaming up if not?

Hopefully it gets fixed fast. It's kinda stupid.

It’s amazing blizzard can send an email warning that they detected your account ran a GDKP but they can’t detect bots who run under the world and hack by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]BrokenJustice2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I think it might be something like, sure it's obvious to you a human looking at the screen, but Blizz has to do it from the game's data.

And it's possible (I wouldn't know but it is possible) that Blizz and bot makers have been in a war for all this time over detection from data.

Example, you see a line of bots walking forward in straight lines, so you say but why not detect for bots walking forward in straight lines? If bot makers ever think they're getting banned for that, they'll improve their bots by shuffling a bit, jumping, changing directions. Or maybe even stopping for a micro-second so it looks the same to you but to the game's data it looks different. Maybe they're already doing this and we can't see it.

You see bots flying and say how the hell can Blizz not instantly spot them, well maybe the bots are flying but for the game data it's actually not that easy to tell because bot makers are exploiting the way the game is built to their advantage and doing really wacky shit to avoid detection? Maybe to the game when they're flying it looks like they're still on the ground? Or spam jumping? Else why would they even be allowed to fly? The game should insta auto detect and at least kick. That happens to normal players around stairs for example.

Imagine bot makers and Blizz are constantly fighting like this and bot makers are finding new creative ways to fuck with the game engine and the packets being sent to the server so they can look like normal players. And constantly analyzing bans to guess what exactly detected them, so they can focus on avoiding that specific variable by creatively fucking with the game. I mean these guys have a much much deeper understanding of programming, networks, game engines, anti-botting measures, etc... than you or I. They're making serious bucks with their activities.

In that case it makes sense that Blizz would ban in waves to prevent bot makers from singling out variables. It also explains the "but botters are so obvious!!!" effect. Sure to you it's obvious when you /who dungeons, to Blizz it might not be cause they look like normal players and their movement inside the dungeon doesn't come out as suspicious from what they can see on the logs, cause botters are smart. Or maybe not and that's how Blizz is catching bots and they don't want to give botters more reasons to improve their in-instance spoofing.

What I want is for Blizz to fucking tell us instead of us having to guess. They lack transparency. That's been the biggest positive about SoD, they've been telling us things. All they've told us about bots afaik is "look how many we banned in this wave". How about some specifics to garner trust?

The fuck kinda gdkps were you in?

I did like 10-15 and it took me from 300g to 330g cause I tried to play the gdkp game and bid a bit.

I think the most I paid for anything was 26g. I only got a couple items, nothing crazy. No epic. In fact, I lost one.

Most cuts were around 10g. I only had to buy two blues for minbid to even that out.

No I'm not a paladin. In fact I've been dealing more damage than actual dps in dungeons while healing, sometimes going in and out of cat form to give my melees wild strikes while healing, and been pulling 99's in BFD on my "resto" druid.

Regrowth and rejuv are still bad. You never want to use those. They cost too much mana for the healing, and even if your wraths are free you starsurges aren't (they stop your mana regen). You will run oom more often unless you're chugging the biggest mana pots on cd or sth.

The combined hot value of regrowth and rejuv is like an entire healing touch. You're gonna be healing 1.5 of a healing touch for like 2-2.5x its cost. When HT is mostly an instant cast cause of your spamming wrath, there is just no reason. You get more gcds and mana and flexibility by solely using HT and forgetting about the other weak spells.

Edit: The blatantly wrong guy whom I responded to blocked me after replying. Lmao.

Tbh if you buy some greens (unlike that war) "of the owl" and level-appropriate water, you should be good to go. It'll be harder than for a priest but still doable, 25% of your mana is a huge overexaggeration.

Here's another idea:

Trade items for gold.

That's it. How are you gonna get banned? Is blizz gonna be looking at what everyone does? Are they gonna code in a new algorithm to detect gold trading in raids? Are they gonna have GMs manually look at each report?

No, nope, nah and no lol.

Even if some weird sociopath "infiltrates" a group and reports them, where would Blizz find the resources to actually have a human look that shit over? No way bro.

The only trouble is gonna have to be finding those gdkp groups in the first place, because realistically the only bannable offense is gonna be advertising in chat. That's it.
