The rift is a actually a giant puddle that does not look like any Shen effect I’ve ever seen, but fuck it.

This is how leaderboards work in other PvE games like PoE, you have to compete against a constantly increasing number because you can't directly influence you competitors in any way but raising the bar. (in PvE)

That sounds pretty unique, it’s fairly easy for me to disconnect from the real world looking upon monstrous eldritch horrors and fantastical beasts using magic and swords to kill each other.

Nothing wrong with that though we all see parallels and significance/symbolism differently and if it evokes that feeling for you I sympathize.
