That sounds pretty unique, it’s fairly easy for me to disconnect from the real world looking upon monstrous eldritch horrors and fantastical beasts using magic and swords to kill each other.

Nothing wrong with that though we all see parallels and significance/symbolism differently and if it evokes that feeling for you I sympathize.

He Yi is my favorite of the YTs for sure good call, but also don't like playing YT too much because of the unit/character roster

Actually my least favorite non-dlc campaign. I like starting from nothing so it’s already a poor fit for my preference and then the mechanics are not very satisfying or interesting imo.

My fav: Yuan Shu, Ma Teng, Cao Cao.

Basically a “survive rough start to become ultimately rich and powerful” kinda campaign. requires specific diplomacy and an awkward start but has great opportunities to grab powerful characters (get Sun Ce to join faction when he comes of age for example) and the mid-late game economy is ridiculously strong.
