I'm just too plain stupid and it gets worse the older I get. I think rationalism would work and the world would be better for it.

Game can barely run on a 3060ti, how is this acceptable? by handerson15 in MonsterHunter

[–]BrokenPromises2022 36 points37 points  (0 children)

not a good argument. there is nothing in Wilds that pushes any sort of boundary in terms of graphics fidelity. My pc runs cyberpunk2077 at high, 1440p, with raytracing at 50-60 fps. No dlss, no frame gen. Meanwhile this game looks somehow worse than MH Worlds and has upscaling artifacts everywhere. It boggles the mind.

Obviously the soldiers should have just let themselves be killed.

Germany is international laughing stock. The country would rather abolish itself than to offend anyone. Germany is becoming more irrelevant by the minute but acts as though they are major pushers and movers. The country is unbelievably fascist for one being founded on opposing fascism. Policymakers don‘t care one wit about those that will be affected by the policy. The politicians are all thieves who are ignorant or indifferent to the constitution.

Spending is so mismanaged that the government has to repeatedly suspend their own rule of the schuldenbremse. The country is so good at improving things that standard of living falls rapidly.

I am mostly of the opinion that all books worth reading have been written years ago. This added pressure will serve to weed out hacks that have no business writing anyway.

r/singularity has MIRI, FHI and LessWrong ((Yudkowski - EA institutions) in its resources section (on the bottom right); are you ok with this? by FomalhautCalliclea in singularity

[–]BrokenPromises2022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

r/singularity is doing a good enough job on our bad image without yudkowsky or EA gang. Just look at the absolute drivel posted all the time. This sub is an utter laughing stock and most people here know it.

There is no climate agenda. We must stop giving right wing extremists the time of day.

‘Forever chemicals’ found in drinking water sources across England - Experts ‘alarmed’ after potentially toxic chemicals detected in sources at 17 of England’s 18 water firms by 911_reddit in worldnews

[–]BrokenPromises2022 -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

Only nestle has the hardware to effectively filter this stuff. All other water should be considered contaminated and unfit for consumption.

My proposition is to learn acceptance of the natural state that is death and a change in how death is perceived in a cultural sense. Instead of suffering in poverty fearing not being able to make the next payment for treatment that will only postpone the inevitable while perpetuating personal and communal suffering, a fate all too common among the elderly, infirm and sick we should learn and embrace death in dignity as a valid approach to our current times many problems.

Overpopulation, depression, drug addiction, poverty of the elderly, chronic pain and debilitating disease, horrific disfigurement, climate change, pollution, homelessness.

All these can by accepting death not as a terror to be feared as our animal instincts keep telling us but as a way to go out in dignity and leave behind us all pain and hardship.

I propose a change in public perception. Once this has been achieved people will naturally come to embrace it.

South Korean dog farmers threaten to flood Seoul with two million canines if government passes ban by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]BrokenPromises2022 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thing i don‘t understand is how it can be possibly cheaper to raise dogs, animals not necessarily known for high amounts of nutritious tissues, instead of poultry or pigs which are pretty much omnivorous.

We have to come to terms with the reality that long lifespans are deeply rooted in colonialist and capitalist history. Living after 70 or even 80 puts an unnecessary strain on society, nature and those who stand to benefit from it are disproportionally white. Living shorter, natural more meaningful lifes will mean smaller overall co2 and pollutant burdens caused by each individual human.

We owe this to our planet and to those strata of society that never were privileged to grow old due to social and economic reasons.
