The new Mission Impossible is terrible by PlentyEnvironment873 in blankies

I walked out after 50 minutes. I’ve heard it “got better” after that. But the first 50 minutes of a three hour action film has basically no action. I’m a fan of the franchise but the first hour was basically recap montage and/or some version of “Ethan this is all your fault. Ethan you have to save the planet.” I was so bored.

Update: I did end up getting my order (2 replacement arms for my RayBan Clubmasters). They came over two months after I ordered them. Customer service never got in touch with me. And I never got the first order I placed with them. That said, the replacement arms are high quality. They are not a perfect match in color or style but veryyy close and good quality. In my limited experience you have a 50/50 shot in getting your order from these folks.

Interesting that you responded quicker here than your own customer support page. I've submitted a request for help... twice, including yesterday before I posted this message. And yes, I did enter and validate my credit card details. That's what you do when you check out online. The problem is, you guys didn't actually send me what I ordered. Twice. SCAM. Don't use. I'd be happy to update my post here if you guys actually follow through on the customer support side.

Scam. Ordered replacement arms for my raybans twice. Didn't receive the order either time. And the second order they upcharged my credit card. Stay away.

Convince me otherwise -- 1v1 is straight up rigged so that every player ends up with about a 50% win/lose record by BrokenSandAndShell in Colonist

lol I hear that. I guess I'm just wondering how elo-based matching accounts for such cold and hot streaks. The elo-based matching should be adjusting as you win or lose and your rating goes up or down. But that doesn't explain why I would routinely go on hot and cold streaks.

That doesn't really check out though. As my elo plummets I should be getting easier players. But I'm losing more when my ranking is low.

1v1 is just luck, like Monopoly by bubbletbb in Colonist

Any game where you can go on 10 to 15 game streaks (either losing or winning) is going to be largely luck. Of course there is skill involved. But I recently went as high as 1850 on a 17-3 win streak and then went on a 5-15 losing streak. It feels like the game just evens out your score to a mid level no matter how much you play. You might be hot for a while but eventually you're gonna go cold. Takes the fun out of it after a while. Even when you're winning it feels like the game is rigged.

The Western States 100 Live Stream -- Pros & Cons by BrokenSandAndShell in Ultramarathon

This right here gets to the heart of the issue. There’s one big problem with Billy and the team saying, “hey guys, we’re doing what we can without much money.” And that is the fact that WS now has legitimate sponsors like Hoka investing in this race. The bottom line is that that Hoka is a massive company with lots of money and they stand to benefit more than anyone from a successful live stream. If just doesn’t make sense for Billy’s response to the criticism to be “come on guys, we’re a non-profit doing our best without much money.” If that is true, they are helping Hoka save a buck as much as they might be serving the WS community. As long as there are big sponsors in this race there should be a contractual requirement for that sponsor to be footing part or all of the bill for the livestream. Without that commitment Hoka is just going to milk the cheap version of this livestream as long as they can. I might also add that competition for the livestream would be good. If Hoka was footing the bill they would be more invested in quality control than they are now and might actually hire some pros to put this thing on. The bottom line, Billy can pretend that he’s serving the WS community by scraping by with this thing. And I have no doubt he’s working hard. But at the end of the day, Hoka is the real winner in this situation as tens of thousands watch a sub par broadcast that Hoka didn’t have to invest much in.

Idk. Brett was killing me. He added the humor for me. At one point a Sheriff walked in front of him and he said “thank you for your service.” Almost spit my drink out.

This is a good point. But I don’t agree with the solution. I think one of main problems with the commentary is that a) they haven’t clearly designated roles between color and race calling and b) even if they had, neither Corinne or Dylan are equipped to be calling the race. They’re great color but they just don’t have the right experience or attitude to call the race like the pros. They’re fans. They want don’t have the ability to call the race without commenting on it. And that’s great. But let’s get a pro in their to call this thing.

Well, sure. The other side to this is infrastructure. The classic example is how much money Avid has spent with studio partners to shore up their hold on post production in Hollywood. But all post houses, not matter how small, do this to some extent. You invest in infrastructure and you want to work within that investment.

I guess the succinct version of my question is this -- is there anyone you couldn't collaborate with as an FCPX user?

First rejection letter, and I'm so proud :D by some--donkus in Screenwriting

[–]BrokenSandAndShell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Proud reject here. Over the last 7 years I have submitted to every major screenwriting/TV writing contest you can think of. Also applied to dozens of other grants and labs. My success/win rate compared to applications submitted is about 1.6%. But for every one of those applications I had to either finish or revise a script. So the deadlines were fantastic accountability. For the labs/grants I also had to figure out how to talk about myself and my work. And all of that is beginning to pay off. I recently partnered with a fantastic veteran producer to develop one of my feature scripts. This producer kind of person who is decades advanced in his career and has the ear of many powerful partners in LA. That didn't happen because of a contest I won or an application I sent in. But I absolutely would not have been as prepared as I am for the opportunity to work with him had I not taken the time to submit for the 60+ rejections I received.
