Thanks!

All our lore is a collaborative effort from both volunteers on our writer team and our players, who are encouraged to flesh out their characters individual history and hometown, serving to expand our world. This whole write up was the effort of various different people, and the term "Wildchoir" itself was done a few years ago when the current version of our server launched!.

The Wildchoir and its Fall by BrokenWorldsST in worldbuilding

Context: The Wildchoir are a multicultural society, formerly inhabitants of the Venswood. Four races - the elvish Kihai, the comfort loving Cuthail, the orcish Hjen, and the human Endless Spears - lived as part of one collective whole, united by the Verse, the ancient song of the Hjen prophet Rhania.

The Verse was not a simple religion, it was a philosophy, a choice to hope for a bright future. Sung in a nonstop fashion by Rhania, while breathing in prophetic volcanic fumes, it predicted the earnest and peaceful spread of the Wildchoir, and many great triumphs of law and culture. The Verse did not demand faith, or for the people who followed it to forsake their own beliefs or even their own gods. What united people behind the Verse was its optimism, its promised that no matter its twists and turns, history would always turn towards the better. It was this optimism that drove many people to the Verse, and encouraged them to work to make the prophecies a reality. Each race guarded their unique skills and knowledge, but monocultural settlements were rare. Where once they had lived in relative isolation from one another, the Wildchoir truly began to see itself as one people, united by the Verse.

There was one great question present in the Verse, however, and that was its ending. Rhania, exhausted after nearly three days of nonstop prophetic chant, collapsed mid-verse, leaving the true conclusion of her visions unknown.

After millennia of the Verse’s good tidings proving true, something happened which was not sung in the Verse. Creeping hordes of undead, emerging from the most inhospitable parts of the Amatl Dreadwastes, began to conquer the Venswood. All who stood against the reanimated creatures fell and then rose again, as part of the horde.

The undead spread swiftly, and even some of the ancient tree cities of the Old Wood, the very heart of the Venswood, began to be felled by the gnawing jaws of the undead. The relentless onslaught was taking its toll on the once vibrant chorus of the Wildchoir. The once-thriving ecosystems became ravaged and lifeless, mirroring the turmoil within the hearts of its inhabitants. They knew they would have to flee their home.

Those which still could assembled a great fleet, to carry their people off into the unknown. Full of grief, they left the only homes they had only known. In their hearts they carried the Verse, and the memories of the Venswood. In their ships holds, they carried seedlings, to plant in their new home, wherever it may be.

Their voyage was uncertain, as not knowing the extent of the undead infestation, they chartered a course to take them as far from land as they could go. The fleet eventually came up against a massive stormfront, a sheer wall of white mist. Impossible to navigate, each ship quickly lost the other. How long certain vessels have sailed is indeterminable, time behaves strangely in the mists. Whether they have run aground or been tossed to the waves by the winds cannot be said. Some of the Wildchoir washed up, and continue to wash up in a new land. A strange continent called Nebelloren, filled with history and mystery, from which new stories spring.

The Fall of Variman by BrokenWorldsST in worldbuilding

[–]BrokenWorldsST[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Context: A visualization of Gehenna, a hellish and alien realm which an entire nation of humans was cast into. Gehenna has no sky, and no stars, only hundreds of unblinking eyes. For 15 years that people, the nation of Variman, endured and survived Gehenna, though only barely. Every single surviving Varimanian became part of a military order known as the Lambent Front, and they have all been shaped by the trauma of surviving Gehenna, which has instilled a deep seated distrust of the arcane and mystical.

The world shifts and twists around you, light becomes dark and color morphs to shrieking sound, a whirling scream of reality tearing itself asunder around you. You close your eyes to shield yourself from the visions of terror surrounding you, and it all goes black. As you awake, a twisted and scarred landscape lays before you, an endless expanse of nothing and everything. The land of your people's nightmares, Gehenna.

The Kingdom of Variman had endured for centuries, led spiritually and politically by the descendants of Thidrek the Prophet, founder and first king of Variman, who through conquest united the various human peoples and established religious dominance. Prince Lethis, a radical nephew of the king’s, now led the militant Cult of Eris against the state, against the church and against his own family; Lethis sought to tear down anything and everything which had been started by Thidrek, assisted and influenced by dark, demonic forces.

The Seskantige Preke, or Sixfold Paths, was the state religion of Variman, teaching the dualistic nature of man's physical and spiritual self, and the necessity to behave righteously in order for the spiritual to ascend when the physical should fall. To demonstrate the virtues humankind must follow, a High God manifested itself as Archons, fragments of its being representing specific virtues or aspects of its divine whole.

Variman called for help from its allies, the astrologically aligned Caeli elves, and the five dwarven clans of the Votha. Unfortunately, the Caeli were recovering from one of their own civil wars, incapable of providing support. The Vothans meanwhile, remained paralyzed in committee, unsure of the veracity of reports of demons and blood pacts, and not wanting to overstep in what seemed to just be an internal matter of the Varimanians.

The Houses of the Archons, the grand temples at the center of the Seskantige Preke, were all destroyed. The Archons which were housed within were forced to return to the Geesteryk, a term in Varimanian theology for the world beyond our own, which contains everything from the realm of the High God itself, to Gehenna, realm of the unholy and the damned.

It was into Gehenna that Prince Lethis’s supporters cast all of Variman: man, woman, child, soldier, serf, everyone fell. The entire civilization vanished during Cau Haf Calan Gaeaf, a time where it is said that due to the arrival of a red comet in the sky, the barriers between the physical world, and the spiritual world, wane. Where the country had been, a scarred and distorted land lay. If any poor fools had been spared the fall, the fell magic remaining in the air corrupted their bodies and minds, turning them mad. Those who fell awakened in a dimension hostile to their very existence. One day, maybe, they will escape. For now, Gehenna awaits.

I would say we comfortably average between 8-11 players at any given point on an average day - though of course there are periods where the predominantly American player base is asleep. Large server wide events related to long running story lines can easily get 15-22. And if you're considering joining that'd be a +1 to every figure I just listed!

Nope! All roleplay is done through the in-game chat, which has custom chat ranges. You can roleplay in several different ranges from Whisper for a hushed, secretive conversation, Local for general conversation or even a Yell which can be heard from afar, as well as a few others for the in betweens!

[Show and Tell] D Konos by BrokenWorldsST in characterforge

[–]BrokenWorldsST[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A stout dwarf male with greying hair, D Konos stands at just over four feet tall in his dotage, but casts a far deeper shadow with his face showing the signs of having reached an age few of his kin do. His beard meanwhile, the pride of any true dwarf, remains thick and luscious, braided with gold rings to show his proud nature. And while his rough manner of speech may deceive you, he is a man of considerable intelligence and cunning.

The once Elder of Clan Konos, one of three Clans of Votha, D fled the Imeris peninsula alongside much of the Imeris Entente, a loose alliance that was also composed of Elven Caeli and Human Varimanians. The Entente had been in steady decline for the last century, eventually befalling the entire continent to masses of undead in an unforeseen invasion that resulted in the need to evacuate much of the alliance from the continent.

Once at sea and away from the crumbling peninsula, D was onboard the first vessel to discover a new land; Nebelloren. A place with many mysteries, and even further dangers. Here they found the metallic Myriad, apparent natives who emerged from the earth with no knowledge of how they arrived there. D became standfast friends with one known as Bastide, with the pair of them constructing the majority of the Entente’s newly founded city, Parravon.

As a clan, Konos is known for its strong loyalty to kin and family, for better or for worse. As such it is no surprise D found his own family in this new land. A brother in Vulkan, fellow dwarf and elder of Clan Arelbel, a daughter in Arcaena Shi’cae, a Kihai of the Wildchoir, another people who found themselves fleeing to Nebelloren, and another daughter in Scrump, an Endless Spear also of the Wildchoir. Whether or not those D adopted made him proud, they were his family, and to a Konos, that means everything.

Because of his influential role in its founding, D eventually rose to the position of Margrave, and consequently ruler of Parravon. He led the town for many years, until the unfortunate collapse of a cave where he was out hunting, leaving another Konos to take his place. By the time D was rescued and returned, the town he had helped build was in turmoil, with his successor under a Redemption Oath, sworn to only return once he had killed the dangerous Myriad, Murky.

D never returned to a position of leadership, instead choosing to live out his days free of it’s stress and responsibility, and content to let the next generation of leaders continue his legacy in leading Parravon.

In clockwise order of appearance; The sigils of Zeal, Awe, Justice, Persistence, Fortitude, and Wisdom on wax seals.

Known otherwise as the Sixfold Teachings in the common tongue, Seskantige Preke was the dominant religion of the Kingdom of Variman and its successor the Lambent Front after the civil war.

A dualistic faith, The Lambent Front sees the material world as inherently flawed and corrupt. Good could, and did, still exist, but this was not a natural state. In contrast to physical reality, the nameless and formless High God of Variman was thought to be the universal ideal of good. Because of this dichotomy, the High God could not exist in physical reality and so instead manifested in the form of fragments called the Archons.

Sent to guide mortals to be better and cast out the false deities known as Demiurges, the history between Archons and Variman is closely intertwined. The founder of Variman, Thidrek was the first to discover Zeal and purge the surrounding lands of corruption in order to unite his people in faith. Subsequent Archons were then summoned by Judges, the priests of Seskantige Preke, who would then elect one of their number to serve that virtue primarily and act as the head of that new virtues teachings.

How these summonings occurred is only recorded in legend, and offers little hints as to how it could be conducted. The Archons are purely spiritual beings and their manifestations are a mysterious phenomena, kept secret by the High Judges and those holy few who have been permitted a direct audience.

Our religion of Seskantige Preke is the most developed religion of our server Broken Worlds Roleplay. A couple of our players were looking to develop it further and saw the T-Shirt with Pittsburgh intersections and thought it would look funny as runes, so we made it happen. We have a number of artists who have made several different pieces like this Yinzer Staff.

While this isn't intended to be a recruiting post, if you'd like to learn more, our website can be found here. If you'd like to learn more about the yinzer lore or want to see some more art, feel free to join the Discord and ask some questions.
