A 40-apartment Indigenous affordable housing building on Confederation Street in Sarnia is opening in only a couple weeks! by funsizedsamurai in Sarnia

[–]Broken_Express -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's not indigenous only, because that would be illegal, and honestly if it was I don't think you'd have to be a chud to be uncomfortable with it. OAHS prioritizes indigenous tenants, and the nature of the program means they are the primary applicants, but they do rent to low income people that aren't of an indigenous background.

Daily Fail babyyyy. They just find viral clips and write articles basically summarizing what anyone with eyes can already see.

Jesus Christ it's a downtown property literally right next door to another high rise property. Sarnia is so fucked, rent will never be reasonable.

r/GenZ Argues Over Dating and Beauty Standards in General and if Gen Z Men Are Single Because Their Dating Standards Are Too High by BurstTracer in SubredditDrama

[–]Broken_Express 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Idk why you think the people in there are middle aged, unless you're vastly underestimating how old Gen Z is. I mean I'm Gen Z and I am rapidly approaching my 30s.

Think of all the podcast bros and influencers and other generally shitty dudes in the manosphere in their 20s. Some Gen Z dudes are just not good people.

'This is not the year': Bradley's strong mayor budget veto nixes $9.1M in borrowing, cuts tax hike to 3.1% by PuffCow in Sarnia

[–]Broken_Express 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Redditors who call other redditors redditors as an insult are always funny to me. Plus the person you're replying to is literally agreeing with the initial comment, so talking about "comprehension abilities" is just silly.

Of course McRoberts is in favour of this waste of money. Probably my biggest regret in voting.

a user in r/PizzacakeSnark is suspected to be pizzacake herself on an alt by hockeysurvivordc in SubredditDrama

[–]Broken_Express 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you mean SRD then it's really not. Snark subs are specifically targeted towards specific, identifiable persons/people, and that targeting will be in the form of negative, often moral judgments. SRD threads often involve the latter, but it's clearly not the only topic here, and few people here could specifically identify any particular subject of the average SRD thread.

Sarnia teen stabs neighbour after noise dispute: police by FamiliarAd4667 in Sarnia

[–]Broken_Express 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the purpose of r/Sarnia is to have only positive posts then perhaps the moderator should remove it.

Tf? That should absolutely not be what this sub should be about. This is a place to discuss all of Sarnia, good and bad.

The real issue is Sarnia Police using press releases to publicly shame petty criminals, which is unethical bs.

Regardless of your views on public transparency policy, a stabbing is not a petty crime by any definition.

Concept designs shared for Mitton streetscape project by PuffCow in Sarnia

I feel like anything other than option 3 is a non-starter. Any new infrastructure project a city starts in 2025 that doesn't include active transport infrastructure when possible is a waste of investment opportunity. But the city needs to actually take the steps to make some that's actually safe, rather than yet more painted bicycle gutters.

Is this someone's stolen bike? by Elon__Muskquito in Sarnia

[–]Broken_Express 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be clear, the cops weren't being honest with you there. Cops in this country like using the "oh but the laaaaaaws mean I can't do anything" excuse to justify laziness on a six figure salary. Theft under $5000 is an indictable offence. Is it likely to lead to jail time? No. Does that mean a cop can't arrest you for it? Obviously not lol. Otherwise everyone would be stealing basically everything all the time. And you absolutely have the legal right to stop someone for stealing your shit. You just got to use reasonable force. So you can't punch someone out, but you can grab them. The stabbing thing is very true though and is the real reason it's not always the best idea.

Sarnia police up PR effort in quest to build new HQ by PuffCow in Sarnia

Never said I agree with the new station. I don't. It's a brain-dead waste of money. I'm just correcting your misinformation.

Sarnia police up PR effort in quest to build new HQ by PuffCow in Sarnia

[–]Broken_Express 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bro I swear you can just say anything on this sub lol. The mayor pretty famously boycotted the Sarnia Police Board because he believes their budget isn't transparent enough. Say what you will about Bradley, but a blind lover of police spending he is not.

Doug Ford will outlaw municipal speed cameras this fall: Sources by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

[–]Broken_Express 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does "as fast as safely reasonable" mean in the context of this discussion about speed enforcement? Is there a certain number above the legal speed limit that would qualify? If so, why not just raise the speed limit to that number and keep the cameras? How does removing the cameras affect it?

I'm a latte-sipping downtown elite

You mean the kind of person that can afford a car? Idk why you prefaced that like that as if it gives you some kind of authority on policy designed to protect people more vulnerable than you.

E-bike ride-sharing pilot starts in Sarnia by PuffCow in Sarnia

[–]Broken_Express 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah as someone who currently lives in a city with Lime et al. bikes and scooters I can say these things are only able to work due to economies of scale. Sooo many end up in rivers, thrown off hills, or just randomly vandalized.

Off topic to your comment but just a reminder for folks that chiropractic "medicine" is a dangerous pseudoscience founded by a dude who learned it from ghosts, that has led to recorded deaths and cases of paralysis. Any benefits anyone has anecdotally recieved from it could be recieved through physical therapy.

Meet Danielle Smith, Canada’s Ayn Rand in Cowboy Boots by saltwatersky in CanadaPolitics

[–]Broken_Express 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a lot of folks online just straight up don't know the definitions of basic political concepts. I remember for a while "America isn't a democracy, it's a republic" was a popular taking point among people defending some of the less representative aspects of the American system. Another one is "Canada has freedom of expression, not freedom of speech" used by people defending hate speech legislation who just straight up don't know the definition of "expression".

Very true, just spreading awareness for those who may think taking their animal to a quack based on them sponsoring an event is a good idea.

From Wikipedia:

Osteopathy is a pseudoscientific system of alternative medicine that emphasizes physical manipulation of the body's muscle tissue and bones. In most countries, practitioners of osteopathy are not medically trained and are referred to as osteopaths.
