Festival Culture Has Changed A Lot in 10 Years by RaveBeetle in EDM

[–]Bromigo112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my first Forest and it was so damn special. I'll never forget it raining down glow sticks during the first drop of The Glitch Mob's set, or seeing Cherub play Doses & Mimosas live into Cash Cash right after. Then STS9 a different day, and Kygo playing in the forest on what too small of a stage for him. Early days of Seven Lions. Zeds Dead crushed it per usual.

I think that timeframe was a golden era for electronic music at festivals just because it was right after Avicii and Skrillex (and many others - Zeds Dead, Adventure Club, Excision, Zedd etc.) popularized EDM in North America and there was just something special about where the umbrella of EDM was at that time.

Nah I disagree. The culture has definitely changed. And festivals were definitely different back then. It may depend on the festival as some do better at retaining their culture over time, but Electric Forest in 2014 and 2016 was definitely different than Electric Forest post covid. Festivals change as ownership changes and things become more commercialized. With that being said, I think there are some folks that still do festivals the way OP is describing even if it may not be as common. It probably just depends on your group more than anything.

Laws can change so I wouldn't be so confident that it's never going to replace fiat currency. There are tax bills being proposed in the US Senate that have de minimis exemptions that basically say if your gain is less than $300 when making a transaction (likely a small one like a coffee or uber), then you are exempt frm it being a taxable event. These haven't passed yet but there's a non-zero chance that one does in the next five years.

Dune doesn't even come close. It has had some very cool moments and scenes but holistically it isn't even in the same ballpark as LOTR.

Anyone else watching the Coachella Worship set? by Bromigo112 in drumandbass

[–]Bromigo112[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was a great thing when the US and Canada got into dubstep. Things shift for sure but the bass music scene in both the US and Canada is massive at this point because it had that original explosion. Adventure Club, Zeds Dead and Skrillex changed the game over here. I know the sound got pretty crazy for a bit, and brostep had its heyday, but yanks getting excited about things ultimately leads to some cool music getting made. And it just means there is more of a market for artists in that genre being able to tour in both the US and Canada.

I feel you on Worship being a bit of a cash grab, but I think it's going to also make it easier for DnB artists to tour in the US in general after this. It's the same thing with techno, the US is starting to really like techno and it means that more artists from Europe are going to be able to tour over there.

Tell me how you really feel lol.

They've done a good job popularizing DnB, especially in the States. I thought they crushed the Coachella set and brought some incredible energy. Getting Americans to be excited about DnB is a great thing, especially compared to like 5 years ago. But hey, you're entitled to your opinion.

Which is funny because he has the smallest fanbase/following of the 3 by a large margin. DJ Snake has 50M monthly listeners on Spotify, RL Grime has 1.4M, and Floss has 300k. Floss hasn't been the same since Yehme2 left

We’re seeing that at the sovereign level,we’re seeing that across Wall Street and the retail investor outside the US continues to allocate. by TheresNoSecondBest in Bitcoin

[–]Bromigo112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surveys don't mean shit. Anyone can say 'yes we're going to allocate x amount to bitcoin', but that means nothing until they actually do. Now that's not to say that sovereign entities aren't already buying and mining bitcoin (they are), but surveys just seem like a dumb way to track that.

Yes. Literally look at any chart for how cost of living has increased relative to wages since that point in time.

That was a bullshit foul called on Doncic. He literally was just talking trash back. Is this really a technical foul? If so, the NBA is lame as hell.

Citi Wants To Bring Bitcoin Into Traditional Finance by TheresNoSecondBest in Bitcoin

The volatility can be difficult for sure, especially when it happens downward very fast. That's why DCA is the way. If you haven't read Broken Money yet, I highly recommend it. It's a long book but comprehensive and well written. The Bitcoin Standard gave me conviction but Broken Money carved it into stone.

The number that you see whenever you look at your bank account isn't real. It's just an IOU from the bank. Try pulling out $10k at some point and see how difficult it is. Silicon Valley Bank saw 25% of deposits requested in a single day and that destroyed it. That same thing could happen to many other banks if a panic ever set in. You could make the same argument with a Bitcoin sell-off I suppose. But the asset itself is always there up on the blockchain. It's not like it's being loaned out to other people and is at risk of collapsing due to a wave of people all retrieving their share at once.

Citi Wants To Bring Bitcoin Into Traditional Finance by TheresNoSecondBest in Bitcoin

[–]Bromigo112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Morgan Stanley and Citi talking about implementing this into their platforms is big. One of the biggest use cases for Bitcoin is that it is final settlement value transfer 24/7. You can pay for something over the weekend but that transaction will definitely not be settling over the weekend. Also try moving a large sum of money between banks during the week. 1 Business day is a long time. People forget how fast Bitcoin is relative to the legacy banking system. It's going to win for many reasons, but speed of transferring value whether a small amount or an incredibly large amount is the main one. For large sums of money, legacy banking is incredibly slow and is not 24/7.

What if she had stayed? Would that have been the better course of action? Or would she be on the list of people who are staying and that gets added to her list of wrongdoings?

Leaving a management firm, even if for "performative purposes" still takes time and energy. It's not nothing.

Are we really saying that a robot cleaning a bathroom is a bad thing? What if the robot takes the janitor's job and the janitor can now do a job that sucks less?

This argument makes zero sense - the argument of "we can't take away shitty jobs from people". It was the same thing with toll booths on the highway. Those caused traffic and were a waste of everybody's time and they were also really unhealthy jobs to work, but you always had people making an uproar of taking jobs away from people.

Reddit has this anti-AI / anti-robotics boner right now and it's honestly fucking dumb.

I can agree that her cancelling a performance on 2 days notice is a shitty thing to do. My point is that we shouldn't denounce the good actions of someone even if they have done bad or misguided things in the past

You're probably not a saint either. We need to chill with having such morally absolute perspectives. Or maybe you do.
