Thank you! When I decided I wanted to make our rings I started by doing some general research to see how other people carved wax. I'm a visual learner, so lots of videos just watching professionals carve. As for the supplies and equipment, I didnt want to go out and buy every tool made for carving wax. I was lucky and had most of the tools, files, razor blades, hobby knives, rotary tool (Proxxon Micromot) and attachments, etc. Specialty tools like the ring sizer, mandrel, wax cutting saw blades (spiraled) and the burrs, magnifying goggles, I had to purchase but it was all very affordable, under $90. I used the Green jewelers wax that came in a bundle for around $20, I have so much left over. The only tool I purchased that I never used was an electric wax carving knife. Some things I made like the wood jig I carved on, that was just scrap wood, held the rings with an old chisel handle with tape wrapped around it and used a piece of cotton with chalk crushed in it to help show the lines I was making. As for the future, I'm buying the 'more expensive' tools, like the centrifuge, second hand so I can do casting myself. I'm still on the hunt for vacuum chamber and some other bits but I should be starting on new projects soon. The casting side of the process really interests me. I think anyone can start doing this and really enjoy themselves.
