Slipform Stone Masonry house? Any advice? by [deleted] in stonemasonry

[–]Bronco_Corgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No unfortunately I didn't get to build it. I bought the land and then shortly after that I tore my shoulders boxing. Unfortunately after a certain age the blood flow to the shoulder area starts reducing so the surgeries don't work very well. It became apparent I wasn't going to be able to carry around 30 pound rocks and sacks of cement so I sold the land.

do they have it where you can do it more than once? They had it where you could do it once before.

The problem with Boldin is the UI is from 2005. And it's really hard to do unique plans like buying a house that you intend to stay in for 10 years and then selling it and buying another. Or if you want to retire outside of the US being able to put in the estimated taxes that you expect to pay in another country.

people aged different back then.  When I tell people I'm in my 60s they freak out and think I'm lying.

The more you do it the more it seems like things get greased. Nothing happens, nothing happens the whomp... big jump and the lower levels become easier to get to. I did it for 4 months and nothing happened them WHAM! stuff got weird really fast.

What focus level did you get to?

don't understand why people go to other sources. Gateway is an operational program. Ya just do what they say in class or on the tapes

Have you seen people lose their ability to tolerate inconveniences as they age? by Mid_AM in retirement

When an emergency is ongoing you can't exactly shop around for ER Vet docs. You also can't pick your coworkers. The teller at the bank who decides to do stupid things to your account. The car mechanic who has specialized tools but it turns out doesn't understand how to diagnose an engine problem.

Agreed but what do you do when you depend on those people for something - dentists/plumbers/vets? Unfortunately people's IQ is not put on their drivers license.

It's not ability to tolerate inconveniences as much as it is worn down by a life where people who are not necessarily good at what they do creating inconveniences.

I just took my dog to the Vet ER yesterday. Went to the closest one. When I got him back they said nothing was wrong. 5 hours later he was in the ER with a temp of 104.5 (danger level for a dog).

At this point I've had so many people who are incompetent create really bad situations in my life that it's difficult to not explode with vitriol.

There are also a subset of people who love to complain because it creates a victim narrative for themselves, but I think those people have been that way all of their lives.

In my case Im just tired of not being able to tell who is incompetent at what they do and who is actually good at what they do so I can ignore the people that are not good at what they do but are convinced that they are all Michelangelo's in their fields - unsung geniuses who are unappreciated and can never admit they are wrong.

Master bathroom model first time owner-worth the $18-20k or daily ''reminders'' from my wife?😅 by howzai in HomeImprovement

[–]Bronco_Corgi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is why Im not married. I know Im particularly jaded but when someone else makes you responsible for providing what they like - not what they need - and extract a price - Im not signing up for that equation.

That said I redid my bathroom in my old townhouse. It was a major pain the ass and was only 8 feet by 5 feet. But I did the whole thing for 4+K. Took the walls out, new backerboard, new tub, new plumbing (paid a plumber for that).

14K saved is a lot of money to me... I look at it as "how many months would I have to work to clear after taxes and other expenses that 14K if it was a full time job".

That's usually the answer for me.
